He's only 32 and played in the majors as recently as 2 years ago. This isn't at all strange or interesting for the purposes of this board. If it was some journeyman hoping to work his way back, it wouldn't be interesting. But personally, I find it interesting any time a former star quietly resurfaces in the minors. And while he's not Barry Zito humbly accepting an assignment, he was as fairly big deal once upon a time. Lol...He was a big time prospect, but he was never really much in the big leagues. Best season was 2.7 WAR. Only had more than 1 WAR twice. Multiple seasons below -1.5. Memory serving you well, WSR. I don't know what's serving you, but BBR's serving me a 3.7, 3.6, and a 2.1, as well as a handful in the -0.3- -0.9 range, but no -1.5. My point is that he was monster prospect with a successful big league career. When guys like that sign a minor league deal with a comeback in mind, it tends to make some degree of news. And it's the first I'd heard of it. Oh, I don't know, maybe the other website that calculates WAR (and does it better)? "Successful" is a very low bar for you then.
