  1. makes you smile when you think back to how foolish he made some of those hitters look in game 1 of the NLDS with both his slider and curve. :D
  2. Link Well if He's making decisions on when he should or shouldn't pitch, then Hendry should be fired on the spot. No player should make those decisions. Especially when the franchise is paying him. That's why it's a management decision.
  3. Not by much, but Yes..he's a better hitter than Guzman or Hill. That makes him better than Hairston, too. Which by default puts him above Brynum. Which puts him above Neifi. Wood is probably a more potent hitter than our entire bench.
  4. It doesn't matter ONE IOTA whether Wood wanted to be shutdown. He's as much of a competitor as anyone out there. That's why Hendry is the GM. He has to make those decisions. No player is going to want to be shutdown, it's up to management to make the tough decisions. good luck resigning a guy when you give up so easily. Those quitters in New York aren't letting Zambrano pitch anymore this year, and they're in first place! Equating not letting Wood pitch to quitting is lunacy. And basing managerial decisions on what players want is even more lunacy especially an uber-competetive player.

  6. Thats mature. Well, if food poisoning is no big deal, like has been implied, it shouldn't be much to worry about it anyway. What's a little stomach ache. It's not like I wished anything that a non-wimp couldn't handle. I've had it, and I referred to him as soft, NOT b/c of the food poisoning, but just events that happened in general. Then I read goony's point and changed my mind.
  7. While what you say is true in theory, a guy with one major league pitch isn't gonna succeed, at least not as a starter for long. His fastball is average at best. If he locates his fastball better, it's an average MLB fastball for a lefty. Given an average fastball, he can succeed with the near plus-plus curve. Maybe you're right. But with woody back in 2 weeks, Hill is gonna be the first one down, and even if he's not and Gooz goes, when Prior comes back he's gonna be back down. He's not get more than 2-4 ML starts this year. It's gonna be tough to work on that location which is so much more imperitve with ML'ers vs. AAA'ers.
  8. While what you say is true in theory, a guy with one major league pitch isn't gonna succeed, at least not as a starter for long. His fastball is average at best. Are you talking about velocity or location? If it's veloicty, save it. Both plus movement, plus he's older, plus he hasn't looked good at all last year or this at the ML level.

  10. So the Cubs breed: pitchers with great stuff that don't materialize aggressive hitters that can't take a walk who are toolsy baserunning retards
  11. That's not true at all. If he had a GOOD fastball and could locate, he'd be fine. But he has a crappy one.
  12. Well he didn't walk many guys yesterday, but he's always had control issues.
  13. We are abhorrent, abominable, appalling, awful, beastly, cruel, detestable, disagreeable, disgusting, dreadful, eerie, execrable, frightful, ghastly, grim, grisly, gruesome, heinous, hideous, horrendous, horrid, loathsome, lousy, lurid, nasty, repulsive, revolting, scary, shameful, shocking, terrible, terrifyingly bad, ungodly, and unholy. Let's change that.
  14. Fixed your post.
  15. [/url] He already has resumed. And see: "What's wrong with Prior" thread
  16. im willing to bet its bad management, seriously larry rothschild dosent seem like the best choice for this group couldve tried to get Mazzone, the best in the game but hendry was loyal to a subpar pitching coach How much exposure has Hill had to Rothschild? The three days he was up here, Larry screwed him up? Come on. Seriously, give me a break. The guy has ONE major league pitch. A great hook. Other than that his pitches are crap. His fastball sucks. Until he develops a second dominant pitch, he will be a AAAA pitcher. You can't win with one major league pitch. I wish we would have traded him in the past week without bringing him up. His AAAA line could have netted us something - but showcasing his deficiencies will not help in our bargaining power.
  17. If the injuries have nothing to do with it, how could we be doing so well until Lee's injury and then just collapse. We were executing scoring quite a few runs etc. before his injury and now it's as if there is no heart anymore. Almost like Derrek Lee was the heart of the Cubs and until we have heart replacement surgery we are doomed.
  18. 1) Someone on another thread posted 9 outings in which Wood gave up 2,1, or 0 runs, in 7 ip or more, in 2003 only to have the bullpen blow it, or the offense not score enough. Are you so obtuse, that you can't see this? Christ. give ME a break. 2) No one is accusing you of having to high expectations. People are accusing you of using a inneffective method of judging a pitchers efficacy. Which it is. Plain and simple, it is baseball-challenged logic if you use wins as a metric. 3) The listing of all those pitchers who won 15 games that sucked balls should show you how useless that is of a metric. However if you are going to continue to use this flawed and useless metric to judge a pitcher, by all means do so. After all astute baseball minds like Thom Brenneman do too.
  19. Someone better call the Detox clinic ahead of time.
  20. Clearly you didn't know that we scored 1 run against a 6+ ERA starter and a 6+ ERA reliever yesterday.
  21. You must have missed my post earlier. I definitely think this team is fun to watch in that, it is interesting to see JUST how bad they can get and they keep getting worse, and how they do it in every conceivable way possible.
  22. Being that I have Tracy and Jackson on my fantasy team, it's about the only enjoyment I can get with having him in.
