  1. Really? With the way Z is pitching, it can definitely win this game and probably will.
  2. What is, Dusty Baker was our manager, Alex?
  3. That would have required me having seen the movie.     For Shame.
  4. No question, you had it called all the way. I should listen to you more often. I was hoping you'd get the Lebowski reference...
  5. Lee has also been putting up very good numbers over that time. Getting Aramis and Johnson back on top of that is gonna be big. I'd rather have Soriano back than Johnson. Soriano, Edmonds, Fukudome.
  6. I was calmer than you. 8-) Woody is just unfair.
  7. Not foolish, just nostalgic. I'd love it too, but it'd end his career. I'm having fun watching him absolutely dominate and turn into a top 5 reliever in baseball. Vance, thanks for the new sig. 8-)
  8. You guys should listen to me more often and not worry about woody. I told you what would happen. Filthy, sick pitching, and a K to finish. [-X [-X [-X Oh and thanks Vance!
  9. Thank you vance, that's what I'm looking for.
  10. I'd appreciate it if people could comment colorfully on the filthyness of Kerry tonight. I can't watch the game.
  11. Good god I hope not. I want a win tonight. I meant Geo getting hit...
  12. You just jinxed him. Leadoff HBP coming up. Maybe you (or your psychic) were seeing that HBP in the future?
  13. He was used every game the first couple months. Not surprising that he's fallen a bit. That's total B.S., but I guess facts really aren't welcome in this thread right now. Marmol was on pace for 100+ IP well into June, it's likely he was being overworked. All the pitcher abuse research indicates that purely innings pitched isn't ANY way to judge the stress on arm. High pitch counts, but particuarly, high-stress high pitch counts are more negatively affective on a pitchers arm. I can't side this as pure evidence, but unlike EJ, I'm not gonna toss out hyperbole when it's plainly wrong - Lou to my memory, never used marmol after he went two innings in a game, and rarely used him (if ever) 3 days in a row with out giving him at least a day off. IMO, his appearances were high, but he had some low pitch count outings. Quite a few actually. You're right, he's never thrown the day after throwing 2 IP. He has, however thrown 3 straight days five different times (that's 15 of his 43 outings). Only 21 out of the 183 total at bats against him required him to throw more than 25 pitches. In terms of stress, that isn't bad.
  14. Thank GOD we have Woody coming in in the 9th. He's the only guy I trust right now.

  17. Certainly a refreshing change from years past. But it's "par for the season" in 2008. Cubs lead the NL with 340 BB, STL is in 2nd with 337, but they also lead the Cubs by 7 in IBB. This version of the Cubs has been incredibly patient, and it's the single most satisfying "little thing" about the way they've gone about playing this year. Dusty got correctly assailed for his views on hitting philosophy, I wish Lou would get some credit for the philosophy that he's helped change.
  18. My man-crush is now reigning supreme. Woody will never get replaced as #1. What a fun guy to go have a couple beers with.
  19. I used to hate him with every nerve in my body. Even when he got here. Now I merely dislike him.
  20. I wanted that to be highlights from his sham k'ing of the side.
  21. In terms of the Wood vs. Marmol friendly debate at the end of the game thread, Both have a VORP of 13.4, While Marmol has a better WXRL (Marmol is 3rd in the bigs in WXRL and Woody is 32). I have to admit I'm not fully knowledegeable about the application of WXRL other than knowing it's a pretty darn good metric to judge relievers on. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/statistics/sortable/index.php?cid=204021
  22. Man the bump speed of this thread is reaching an epic quickness.
