  1. I wish we had Hendry's email so we could email him all these stats and numbers and help him do his job. Because obviously, he's never seen a statistic in his life.
  2. Is Sing really gonna be anything more than a glorified bench player at best? Why is everyone worried about him. I doubt he gets picked up by anyone.
  3. ronny at .321/.361/.393 what was the average ops for a SS last year? Does anyone have thos stats?
  4. I'd be shocked if he doesn't get a waiver, and yes, I can see lots of other players trying to get waivers too. ADD is notoriously over-diagnosed in children, now you'll see adults trying to get in on the action. ADD medications are already popular study aids for college students. I popped a few of my friends ritalin before big papers/exams and I was a machine. No rereading the same paragraphs over and over, and I was in a total zone when studying.
  5. NO hatred here. When I see a move I like I will give props to Hendry. Eyre isn't abad signing but he is also overpaid. I don't even have to bring up what I think about Rusch and Perez. If Hendry signs Furcal or he trades for an impact bat/pitcher I will give him the props he rightfully deserves. As it stands right now we are not a contending team. Obviously it's early but when it is all said and done if I feel Hendry has done enough I will be happy and commend him until then I will call it how I see it. It's not hatred at all. Maybe it's your phrasing then. The deal turned out to be totally unhelpful. However blaming Hendry for that is totally misplaced. It was a good deal, if Lawton would have stayed on the roids and had a .370 OBP, no question about it. It was a solid effort to fix an abysmal leadoff situation. I would say the trade didn't work out, and technically, it wasn't worth much, but it was NOT hendry's fault in ANY way shape or form. Who the hell could know he would lose .100 off his OBP just by swtiching from the Pirates to the Cubs? It's very easy to sit here after the fact and judge, but I heard only positive reactions from the majority of people on this site and Cubs fans elsewhere in regards to this trade when it happened.
  6. Goony, who are some mid-level players you DO like? ARe there any?
  7. And so has Eyre. Lol, when? those 16 great innings in 2001? I guess you mean 2003, when he struck out 35 in 60+ innings. No, this is what I mean... Sometimes, it pays to look a little deeper. Are you calling 2004 a good season? I'll give you 2003, since the end result was pretty decent, but hell, his 2004 was better than 2003, or, it would have been, had he not given up 8 homeruns. I know you arent calling 2002 a good season. Or 2001, since he only tossed 16 innings. We wont even get into 1997-2001, since he was either garbage or starting. Why comment that he's garbage or starting if you aren't gonna get into a time period 5-8 years ago?
  8. Kerry Wood. Games 1 and 5, 2003 NLDS. Entire month of September 2003. Carlos Zambrano. ERA below 3 after the ASB from 2004-5. Mark Prior: Games 3 NLDS, Game 2 NLCS. I think your hyperbole got ahead of the facts. And actually, there are a few members here at NSBB I think could do an effective job at being a GM. Also, I'm not sure how Scott Eyre qualifies as a "big game proven pitcher". He's a reliever. He's not a closer. He's not a starter. He's a setup guy at best, Those guys don't win you divisions. Unfortunately, I have to disagree on your last point. A good setup guy or guys can be the difference between winning and losing. Look no further than the Sox to see how valuable relievers like Politte (and to some extent Cotts) can be as a bridge to the closer. Politte was at best mediocre, at worst crappy in every single season of his career before 2005. Cotts's ERA went from 5.65 in 04 to 1.94 this year. I'm not saying they weren't valuable in 2005, I'm just pointing out that neither of those guys should have been expected to be a bridge to anywhere except mediocrity. One addendum to that: Usually, teams that win have really good bullpens? Why? Because they aren't exposed as often as bad team's bullpens are, because winning teams almost always have starting pitching that gets you to the 7th inning. If a team can stay out of their middle relief, chances are they can win a lot of games. That makes me like Eyre more, because with that crap team in SF, he was exposed and still pitched exceptionally well. I worry that Dusty will pitch him till his arm falls off though.
  9. I was at the understanding reading the "how much do we have left" thread that even with Z's raises etc. we have 30 million LEFT to spend, not 20 million. 10 mil is a lot and definitely has an impact on my viewpoing in this debate. I was subtracting the 3 new contracts from that The how much do we have left thread INCLUDES those 3 signings and still says 25-30 million is left (with Z's raises etc., including the signings too). So in that case you wouldn't subtract an extra 10 because it's included in the projections (we're around 74 million right now with Eyre, Rusch, Neifi, the rest of the team, Z's raise, minus Corey and T-Walk.
  10. Red Sox fans as a whole were unhappy with the Renteria signing of 4/42 (I believe that's what it was) even before Edgar proved he wasn't worth that much money. They were upset because they could have had Cabrera for less and had basically the same production. So yes, we're not crazy for being a big-market team's fans who want the organization to spend wisely. I never implied craziness, I don't enjoy spending money for crap either (rusch/neifury) I was just curious about the viewpoints of other fanbases.
  11. I don't get your first question, but you didn't answer my first question either. I don't want Burnett at 5/55 we can certainly get 2 very good players + shore up the bench for 30 million. Guaranteed. Whether JH does it or not is a different story. Please answer my first question though, and clarify yours. We can get 2 very good players for the ~20 million we have left. Hendry's signings thus far have left major doubt as to how he will spend it (as in, many of us expect him to overpay on another vet at this point) it's not enough to sign all 3 players you mentioned. If Giles and Furcal both sign at the upper half of their rumored contracts, it's not enough to sign both of them. Of course, there's no reaosn to think hendry has any intention of getting tiles I was at the understanding reading the "how much do we have left" thread that even with Z's raises etc. we have 30 million LEFT to spend, not 20 million. 10 mil is a lot and definitely has an impact on my viewpoing in this debate.
  12. Just a question in case you might know (not being a smart ass). Do Yankee and Red Sox fans really care about "overpaying" as much as Cubs fans do? It just seems funny that an organization that has spent over 100 million dollar s last year has fans worrying about spending.

  14. From what I've heard he's had increasingly improved seasons, and has had 3 other well above average years. His whip has gone down consistently, his BAA has been always great with lefty's and has improved for the last couple years (NOT EVEN counting last year). Remlinger was old and decrepid. Eyre isn't.
  15. Seriously, to you and every Cub fan that wants to commit mass cult suicide together based upon 2 weeks of nothing exciting, relax, calm down step off the ledge. Only 1 MAJOR signing has occured so far this season - Godzilla. Before committing suicide over inNeiffable, Rusch, and Eyre (who's a solid reliever) lets all take a collective deep breath. What do you expect to happen 2 weeks into the post season? No deals have been made. It's quite frightening to see the stress levels of fans this early into the post season. Second, and someone whose said "11 million, sickening" please explain why it matters if the CUBS overpay. We'll be spending 105 million this off season, we CAN overpay. Reacting to the years, I understand, but reacting to the pay, I don't. Hendry still has 25-30 million to spend. As long as the big deals are real good, these little ones don't mean squat. These 3 signings mean that there's an extremely high probability that the cubs will have a bad outfiield in 2006 unless a player or two hass an unexpectedly fantastic season. Ok, then please explain to me how these 3 insignificant signings in ANY way lead you to believe we have a high probability of a bad outfield? Do they directly affect the outfield? No. Do they affect how many position players we have? Yes, but only by one bench player. Do they impact how much money we have to get said good players? NO. We have 30 million, we could have Giles and Furcal and Burnett (maybe) for that amount of money. We most certainly COULD get those guys, so the signings themselves have NO effect on the outfield. No, the organizational philosophy has more of a bearing on that and Hendry's newfound obsession for players who can catch has a bearing on that, but not the 2 scrubs and 1 good reliever.
  16. Agreed and here we have a GM that spends the money acquiring the mid-level talent. As long as he spends the money to acquire the major talent, it doen't matter what he spends on these frivilous toys. The Cubs have money, money is not an issue. They have near 30 million to spend. After these 3 signings. He's had 2 weeks. I really think it's a bit premature to think that's all he's gonna spend money on. Now if we get Encarncion/Jones/Hunter/Gonzalez etc., I'll be leading the angry mob down to JH office. Until actual big moves are made, by ANY organization, I think it's prudent to wait.

  18. Maybe Ohman is now expendable/trade bait? It's safe to say that Hendry feels Eyre will compliment Ohman (or vice versa). Daily Hearld: http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=122715 Thats good to hear as I think Ohman can be a very valuable guy in our pen. However I dont understand the fact that we are going to have 3 lefties in our bullpen(Rusch, Eyre, Ohman). I just hope this doesnt mean Rusch is our 5th starter, but Ive got a pretty bad feeling that that is going to be the case. Now it's sounds like Williams could be the possible trade bait or Williams & Rusch will both be starters going into ST until they know how KW is progressing from his off-season shoulder surgery. Well, quite frankly I dont like the idea of trading Williams unless its for a big time bat. I love Jeromes upside and hes only 23 and had success at the ML level. If they do trade him I hope its for a proven big time slugger cause if its not Id rather keep him. I'm with you on that one. My guess is that JW & GR will be fighting it out in ST for the 5th spot in the rotation. What happens when JW wins it and if Wood stays healthy? Starters: Prior Z Woody Maddux (I hated this option year given to him) Williams Bullpen: Wuertz Ohman Eyre Dempster Novoa Williamson Howry (whomever/Hendry has said he's going after a Righty setup) That's with a 7 man pen. Why on God's green earth did we resign Glendon Rusch?
  19. that 08 option is..OUCH. Unless he pitches like Cliff Politte or Neil Cotts next 2 years. Then we'll have two years of a stud setup man, and won't have to worry about 08 because he'll leave wanting more. If he sucks, then it's a big OUCH.
  20. Hey Roast, I am probably going to get flamed for this, but would it be possible for you to leave out "Jesus Christ" when posting on this forum. I apologize if this comes off as rude or calling you out, I just have been bothered by it for awhile and I would like to enjoy this forum without having my Lords name used that way. If the mods see otherwise, I will let it go. I just don't see a reason to use it. Again, I am not trying to call you out or embarrass you, just asking for alittle respect when language is tossed around here. Thanks man! I actually agree with you, I really need to cut back on doing that. I never used to, i just have of late. Stress makes you say stuff. No offense taken, and I appologize for the language. If we sign Johnny Damon, we could scream that out and actually be talking about our centerfielder. A+
  21. Why? because he came over from San Fran? I don't follow the logic. I thought his agent said one of the reasons Eyre liked the Cubs so much was Dusty. I think the money probably helps too. Yea well, Eyre isn't Pujols, I doubt we'd keep a manager after another crappy season, just because Eyre likes Dusty.
  22. He said it in the paper too, that whatever Neifi gives up offensively he makes up defensively. Well, Hendry's plan is to be a pitching and defensive juggernaut. We'll see how it works out for him. I think he's obsessed with the Angels and White Sox though and their "model" but at least he has some sort of plan, even if I disagree with it.
