  1. Well someone DID get on ahead of our 3/4 hitters in the first.
  2. Welcome to the boards! Mitre had a couple good games for us too, but looking at the body of work, he shouldn't be much better than an average starting pitcher. Really bad pitchers have great games too (see all slow tossing lefty's vs. the Cubs).
  3. Will he just come back already and post: 28 starts, 14-7 ~180 IP 3.25 ERA 1.15 WHIP 3.0 K/BB ratio 210 K's 12 HR's allowed .212BAagainst/.650OPSagainst Please Woody?
  4. Rob Neyer on ESPN Chat      Now THAT we can ALL agree on is freaking hillarious. Right Tim?
  5. It was a plastic syringe that weighs probably 1 oz., there is not possible way it could injury ANYONE. It was funny and clever. Some people are uptight here. Yes, beer bottles can hurt someone they shouldn't be thrown on the field. The syringe, was brilliant.
  6. I loved the fact that the thread for the opening day game was already at 15 pages before the game even started. Pretty obvious we were all missing baseball. I was looking at the cubs.com game thread and they had over 1400 posts yesterday. Cubs fans are amazing! That's because that thread was started in january or even last year. You notice the first post line-up included. . Pierre, Furcal, Dlee, Aram, Giles? That was a pretty optimistic prediction of the off season. LOL. That would have been a HELL of a first 5. Crap that would have been a hell of a lineup: Pierre, CF Furcal, SS Dlee, 1B Aram, 3B Giles, RF Barrett, C Walker, 2B Murton, LF
  7. Then why'd we get rid of Patterson? b/c he couldn't get on base. what does that have to do with speed not slumping? i realize you can't use speed w/o getting on base, but that's a separate argument from speed not slumping. No, it's exactly the argument. The saying "Speed doesn't slump" isn't referring to basestealing, it's referring to guys not going into hitting slumps because they can use their speed when they struggle. Unfortunately, speed does slump, because slumping rarely has anything to do with speed. Corey Patterson has a ton of speed and slumped terribly because he couldn't make contact and when he did he hit it straight in the air. Neifi Perez has some speed, and he can slump terribly because all he does is weakly hit groundballs. It sounds nice to say "Speed doesn't slump", but it's not true. If you can't hit you can't hit(whether it's your true ability or a bad stretch), and occasionally beating out an occasional chopper or bunt doesn't change that. Neifi does NOT have speed.
  8. I predict by the end of the year we will be looking at Murton, Lee, and Ramirez as solid big boppers. . 25 homers for Murton is not out of the question, IMO. He's on pace for 162 HR and 486 RBI. 8)
  9. Where are the worthless stats of the day?
  10. No, it was the plastic part that holds the liquid. There was no needle attached. Hence I found it hilarious. It couldn't hurt a fly. Maybe it will take legs and last the whole year.
  11. So you admit that speed is not as important as OBP, but then you claim it's sickeninig that people don't think it's as important as OBP? Goony, you're putting words in his mouth. Where in his initial post (or any subsequent post) did he claim that it's sickening that people don't thinkit's important as OBP? He merely mentioned that Speed can and will play a huge part in the Cubs team this year - which is accurate. uh... he said it's sickening that you guys don't think it's important (not as important) b/c it isn't listed next to OBP and HR in a stats sheet. so yes, Goony did put words in his mouth. I should have read it again by myself. I retract my apology to Goony, he did totally put words in Anemic Offense's mouth.
  12. It's only scrolled across once or twice for me that I've noticed.
  13.   His nose must be 15 inches long now.
  14. you should stop throwing around accusations when you have no idea what the truth is. that's a pretty funny thing to say with your sig and all. It's pretty obvious Bonds has used steroids. Not so with Nomar. The amount of circumstantial evidence is infinitely greater for Barroid, than for Nomar. In fact I'd bet alot of money that Barroid has used and Nomar hasn't.

I'm gonna go crawl back into the whole from whence I came. Sorry Goony.
  16. Do they still sell them?

  19. I wouldnt be surprised to see this guy take over for Jock Strap by end of season if he keeps it up. That would mean he obviously played well enough to earn it based on Dusty's past use of young players so if Pagan does pass Jones by the end of the year I would be ecstatic. Dusty was quoted as saying he is really excited by the youth of his squad. However, I agree with you. Let's not get too high on Pagan here. It's only 1 game. I know that Pagan will have his bad stretches, but my point was if he does end up starting over Jones towards the end of the season that it will have been an impressive rookie year. Jones is making way to much money to be replaced. However I'd love to see Pagan in against all Lefty's.
  20. That's why it's banned. Pagan>Beltran today
  21. Okay how about a double steal? That would cement Lee getting earholed when he comes up to bat.
  22. Relax, Howry is coming in. Have you been watching ST. Eyre owns howry. I don't think ST is really the best way to judge a pitcher's effectiveness.
