  1. When is the last time the cubs were 30 games over .500?
  2. Some of you act like we're never gonna lose another game to a bad team. It's BASEBALL, bad teams win 40% of the time. Christ. At least if our Pen was gonna s%%t the bed, they did all in one game.
  3. according to wiki, the team with the best record in the NL gets to choose whether they want Game 1 to be October 1st or 2nd. Game 5 will be Oct. 7th. Hmm...I wonder if it'd hurt Carlos too bad to start Game 2 while we started Harden in Game 1 on the 1st so we could start him in a potential Game 5 on the 7th... And then Lou can take him out after 85 pitches in a tie ballgame to save him for a game that doesn't even exist at the time! I think this is so disingenuous. He took him out, for probably the best reliever in the game at the time who had been absolutely lights out dominant. It's not like he took him out to put in Antonio Alfonseca. Marmol had gotten the job done all year.
  4. I just love saying Dick Harden.
  5. I didn't even bothering reading this thread, but is it as quality as "We won't win with Wood".
  6. As long as it happens before the 7th/middle of the 7th inning, I'm sure fans can think of something to do to utilize the tie effectively.
  7. He'd still kill every young arm he could, just for fun, dude.
  8. I'm saying in a general sense that having someone with experience on the team might help in the overall anxiety level of the team. Just like if you're in a room full of anxious people in a crisis, the results probably won't be as good as if you were in a room full of calm, cool-headed people. That's all. I'm not saying it's going to impact specific at-bats. And I never did. There's something to be said for how environment affects a person's ability to work, and that exists, in sports, business, and life. If a player has a positive calming effect on said environment, it certainly can't hurt and probably will help the overall mood and approach of his surroundings.
  9. As am I. I don't think it's an absolute by any means but depending on the guy and team I think it does have an impact from time to time. I buy into it. I agree with CCF69. I can give various examples from all aspects of life, but being surrounded by people who are calm and cool definitely influences your own ability to manage emotions. This goes for everything in life from sports, to crisis situations, to family conflicts. It's just human nature. so if it's the 9th inning of game 7th of the nlcs and soriano's up with the bases loaded (but really nervous), he's going to think about how edmonds was just totally relaxing listening to tunes before the game and he'll feel better? come on. Yea dude, that's what I said. Can you just deal with the fact that someone has an opinion different than your own on something that none of us can actually prove?

  11. Lineups really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. I think people stress out about that way too much. As long as the BEST hitters are hitting, The difference between the ABSOLUTE best and the ABSOLUTE worst lineups is about 80 runs or 8 games a year. And not even Dusty on Acid would use the absolute worst lineups. I don't get why people make such a big deal about the lineups (not saying you are).
  12. This is a stupid question. First off, I have no idea. He's done similar things multiple times. But why does it only matter if it happens in October? What if it actually does cost them a game that affects the date they clinch and forces them to use pitchers they wanted to rest. Anybody getting on Brenly is being absolutely ridiculous. This is about as meaningful to me as Aram hustling. They were up 8-2. In my opinion the reaction to Soriano was pretty stupid. IF it was a close game, I'd be more concerned. Soriano also got thrown at because of it. Would you have the same opinion if that ball had actually hit him and Soriano got hurt and had to miss a month or two? Wait so now I have to take into consideration the depths to which other teams sink, to form my opinion on behavior of players on my team? Yes. If you think another team is going to retaliate if you showboat, I would suggest you don't showboat. I give up. I'm not arguing this anymore. I don't think it's a huge deal, yea he should run out the single and not pose, but with his production I'm not about to have the sky fall about it. We're 25 games over .500, I don't need to find something to complain about this team just for the sake of complaining which it SEEMS like (I was told using the word seems makes every assertion ok) many people do.

  14. I have no reason to believe that Soriano will treat October any differently. I'm not confident enough to say that he would have hustled down the line. Other than he's a competitive athlete and it's the playoffs, I'm sure the reasoning on which you base your assumption is more sound.

  16. So no one answered my question. To everyone whining and complaining and justifying Brenly's ripping of Soriano, do you REALLY think he's gonna do that in October in the playoffs? I'm taking the silence in response to this question as the deep seeded knowledge, that allthough it's bush league, everyone knows it's not going to happen when the games are do or die.
  17. You're really underestimating JUST how bad this Atlanta team is. Harden is going to give up negative 5 runs in the nightcap. Relax dude. And for all those complaining about Soriano, you really think he's going to do that in October in the playoffs? Seriously? Come on now.
  18. Can someone actually provide stats on our run production vs. pitchers we haven't seen before. i have a feeling everyone who believes what soul just wrote has been educated by Joe Morgan. I could be wrong though. As goony said, that's why I said SEEMS like. And as you know, on those few occasions when goony doesn't contradict me, then what is being said becomes sacrosanct :P jersey cubs fan is goony? I'm out of the loop.

  20. Oh yeah, he was definitely rocking the pick up eyes. I know a girl that was banging him last year before he got good.
  21. Fontenot looks drunk. I love Dempster and Z.
  22. Well we did lose head-to-head with the Rays, and I don't know if I want to face Anaheim. Let's just take care of the NL.
  23. Looked awful and injured out there throwing 96.
