Yeah but I'm not just talking about walks. Barrett just isn't as good of a hitter in the 8 spot as he is higher in the lineup. When he's hitting 8th he often chases a bad pitch, when he's higher he waits for a pitch he can drive. I think Murton will maintain his approach anywhere in the lineup, which is always a positive. Yeah.... but is he hitting better because he's higher in the order.... or is he higher in the order cause he's hitting better ?? Barrett AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS batting 4th 3 3 2 1 0 0 3 0 1 1 0.667 0.800 1.000 1.800 batting 5th 23 5 9 1 1 1 15 6 6 1 0.391 0.517 0.652 1.169 batting 6th 33 2 12 3 0 2 21 9 1 5 0.364 0.382 0.636 1.019 batting 7th 33 0 4 1 0 0 5 0 4 5 0.121 0.216 0.152 0.368 batting 8th 150 18 37 9 0 6 64 24 7 16 0.247 0.290 0.427 0.717 batting 9th 4 0 2 0 0 0 2 0 1 1 0.500 0.600 0.500 1.100 season 246 28 66 15 1 9 110 39 20 29 0.268 0.331 0.447 0.778

Fred Hornkohl replied to Wheelimus's topic in Chicago Cubs Talk
Wheelimus, I pretty much agree with your assessment. I took the liberty of inserting these blocks of data into your original post. Many times, searching for trends with data that is tied to calendar months can produce results that are misleading. Thanx for a well thought out and articulated post. -
Is that right? Prior 8 IP 0 ER Wood 6 IP 1 ER Maddux 8 IP 2 ER Zambrano 8 IP 0 ER Total 30 Innings 3 ER, for a 0.90 ERA. .... and if you add Maddux's start a week ago today in Florida, you come up with 38 innings, 3 ER for a 0.71 starters' ERA over 5 games.

Cubs.com says that they have a 1.37 ERA over the 6-1 streak. 8 runs in 52+ innings. Hmm, I guess the broadcasters was a little bit off. Still, that's not too bad. At some point during today's game, when they made that calculation..... the CUBS' ERA for the 4 game series with Pittsburgh may very well have been 1.18. Thanks for the update, and I was at church and taking Britt to a job interview. We went to Barnes and Noble too, which could have caused me to miss the whole game. After about 25 minutes, I started complaining and pointed out that none of these books are showing the Cubs game, so we should probably get going. :) Well, it seems to me...... you can dress her up in a CUBS jersey and a CUBS cap.... but if she's causing you to miss games, then she's a bad influence on you, no? ..but...but...she just registered on nsbb too! (hasn't posted yet tho) And I explained the whole thing about missing Cubs games, and she's on her last warning before she spends a coule days in the stocks. Ok, then..... seems like you do have the situation under control. I'll shut up now.
