  1. Yeah, he should have made more of an attempt on that, at least.
  2. We can do better than Burnitz in RF. And we could do a whole lot worse. His numbers are actually pretty good. I could live with Burnitz if we had a stud at the other corner OF spot. Unfortunately, the opposite is true. True, but that's not Bunitz's fault. I'm certainly not blaming him for it, but I won't argue that we can do better. I agree, but of the number of things to complain about with this team, Burny should well down the list.
  3. I don't think anyone could have gotten to that ball scalded into the gap. No, but it would have been nice if he actually RAN after it.
  4. I just love how he sprinted after that ball.......

  7. Doesnt the starting pitcher of the home team choose the uniforms for both teams? They dont call it Home Field Advantage for no reason  I don't think that anyone on the Cards had any input. I do know that in games at wrigley, the Cubs SP chooses either the pinstripes or the blue unis.
  8. Hahaha. Sometimes I regret having the game on mute. Sometimes. I actually don't mind Buck that much. Relative to the other STL broacasters, anyway.
  9. Why would you want to wear the dark blue uniforms in that sun and heat?
  10. Hitting them hard, but not quite hard enough. I have a feeling we're gonna rough Carpenter up a bit before it's over.
  11. With all due respect, total lack of pitch recognition is what got him demoted. He swung at garbage when he tried to slap the ball, he swung at garbage when he didn't.
  12. Thank you for the welcome. OBP and SLG are extremely important, but so are clutch hitting, fundmentals, and defense. Dunn is sorely lacking in all of those area's. Even Burnitz' career numbers are better than Dunn's with RISP, RISP w/2 outs, and bases loaded. Those are the key area's that bring RBI's. Dunn can't cut it. I don't believe in clutch hitting either. But I do believe that many players perform poorly in clutch situations because the change their approach due to the pressure of the situation. This usually takes the form of "trying too hard" or "trying not to screw up". IMO, the players who are labeled as "clutch hitters" are simply those who maintain their usual approach, not letting the pressure effect them. It would be nice if every aspect of the game were tangible and quantifiable, but that simply isn't the case. As for Dunn, I think we have bigger fish to fry. His OBP and OPS are nice, but I don't think he is what we need. A bullpen would be nice right about now. I'm not one that believes in the idea of "clutch" hitting. Numbers in supposed "clutch situations" can vary wildly from year to year, and overall they gravitate towards the player's career numbers. Defnese in LF is not extremely important. When a player of Dunn's offensive capabilities comes along, he more than makes up for any defensive deficiencies he has, especially in LF where there isn't a lot of play.
  13. I look at it this way: No matter how good a pitcher is, he simply cannot win a ball game by himself. All he can do is hold the other team down as best as he can and hope his offense can win the game. Many good pitchers win relatively few games because their team sucks, and many mediocre pitchers win a lot of games because their team has a powerhouse offense. Any pitchers win-loss record must be viewed in the context of their teams quality. Wins are totally a team stat, and a pitchers win total is simply the most overrated stat in baseball.
  14. I really hope we face the same lineup the Cards are putting on the field today. It's pretty ugly.
  15. I'm not sure anyone's on the Cubs is capable of knocking him down. Well, in the past, Hector Villanueva could give a run at it. Come on, get out of the inning, please. Glenallen Hill would have broken Dunn in half. I still remember him blowing Piazza up on a play at the plate when Mike was still with the Dodgers. Good times. I miss that guy.
  16. Javier Valentin's Gameday pic is hideous.
  17. I agree with you...the adjustment that Lee made was outstanding. There are a few other hitters this year who've closed some holes in their swings who have also taken their game to accompletely new level. Still, eventually pitchers will figure out a way to limit the damage with adjustments of their own...or confidence will be lost for some reason...or an injury will nag and force a hitter to change their mechanics. Players always have some lows to go with their highs. Ichiro batted .266 though May and June over 222 ABs...who ever would have thought that was possible? Brian Roberts is batting .258 in July after three torrid months. It's just the nature of the game. Brian Roberts is not a physically gifted as Derrek Lee, and that does count for something. But you can hope. The reality is that the chances of Albert catching Lee for the batting title are remote at best. Derrek had a torrid first half, and he is a second half player, and always has been. He has showed no signs of slowing down, and has a massive lead.
