  1. We may not have been champs, but this team would have won a lot more games with a good manager, there is little doubt of that. Both are accountable.
  2. You think only 50%? I think you guys are seriously overvaluing the effect of the manager. I don't. If a manager can screw it up, Dusty screwed it up. Baker has maxed out his idiot quotient. I'd call it 50/30/20, Baker/Hendry/Players. Any way you cut it, some house has to get cleaned.
  3. I stand by what I said. Lack of heart isn't the problem here, and it never was.
  4. It's free fall at this point. Break out the Tom Petty.
  5. Right on dalgreen, Rothschild is as responsible IMO. The whole coaching staff has to go.
  6. This is what happens when you don't have a legit backup 1B man. And don't gimmie Hollandsworth. He's had all of 3 games at first in his career. Walker can. Remember we're only talking about a game or two here and there, maybe 6-7 games a year. Holla and Walker could cover that assignment.
  7. Would you rather have Hollandsworthless or Sosa in right this year? I think not. None of the three. It's not saying very much to say your better than worthless and more worthless. By the time Sosa was traded, there wasn't anything left to get but Burnitz.
  8. Who here thinks part of the reason for bringing Corey back up is to showcase him for a possible trade? Just curious.
  9. He's getting under everything. He's has to be hurting and/or very tired. I still say his shoulder is bothering him. Should've given him a day off today before the Houston-Cards series start. Dusty's going to ride Lee into the ground, and Derrek's going to let him.
  10. He's getting under everything. He has to be hurting and/or very tired. I still say his shoulder is bothering him. As do I. Players can be very stubborn when it comes to taking themselves out, especially when they and the team are in a percieved "critical" stretch. I think someone has to see he needs to rest, and sit him.
  11. He's getting under everything. He's has to be hurting and/or very tired.
  12. I'm kinda torn. I love the Cubs, but I want Baker to get fired. If we're not gonna win the WC, then I gotta cheer against the Cubs, so we get a nice draft pick, and a new manager. It's like a root canal. It sucks badly, but it's probably for the best. But we had this discussion yestersay, and I don't want to get into it again.
  13. I thought you were enjoying the losing, OHCF.
  14. I do. I think this could be the 2006 pen: Dempster Williamson Ryan Aardsma Ohman Novoa Filthy, IMO.
  15. Dusty and Hendry don't seem to care much for Jerry. I'd rather have Ryan than Wagner, as Billy's arm is going to fly off one of these days.
  16. You complained that he wasn't going to be playing enough and now that he's played 4 days in a row you're complaining? Wow. Because Nomar is going to rest, but Dusty seesms to want him to rest vs. the Cards. It would be all right if Nomar played 6 days a week, but you know Dusty is going to force Neifi in there as much as he can get away with, now we just know when, and it's stupid.
  17. Dusty just wants his best players out there vs. the Cards.....
  18. It's not that the Cubs have been losing, it's how they've been losing. Horrid fundamentally, horrid defensively, poor offensive approach, awful bullpen. This isn't a team that's going to be reeling off any long winning streaks anytime soon. At least not one that isn't followed by a losing streak.
  19. Why would Oakland trade Kendall for Barrett after they traded Barrett to us? They don't need Murton, either. It's just too hard to say at this point who will be our corner OF's in 2006. We need to see Murton get AB's vs RHP so a dermination can be made on his ability to play everyday. The only thing I feel relatively sure of is the Pie will be in CF, even if I don't agree with it. I don't want Spivey. Moving Nomar to second would be good if he is agreeable to a move. I like Giles, but am leery of his age, even if its a short contract. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Hendry (if he is still here) goes after Kearns/Dunn again.
  20. TODD HOLLANDSWORTH (getting dusty to use Todd properly would be a start) But that's the problem. If Todd is on the roster he'll be misused. He's one of "Dusty's boys". For this team to do anything in 2006, you first have to start by taking Dusty's toys away. And Hollandsworth only has 3 career games at 1B. I was thinking of a little more experienced 1B man. branyan. he can play 3b too, which officially makes macias expendable since it appears as though his biggest asset is the fact that he's the only guy that can back up at 3b (though i'm sure neifi could do it). branyan would be a left handed pinch-hitter a left-handed complement to lee at first, a backup 3b and a fifth OFer. of course, i'm not so sure the cubs wouldn't rather fill all those spots with four crappy players instead of one decent one... I really like that idea. Especially since it means bye bye Macias. Plus Branyan would be a huge power threat in PH situations.
  21. Pie in AAA hopefully, and Murton as the 4th OF or dealt. For better or worse, I think Pie is in the bigs next season.
