  1. It's a travesty. Apparently taste buds just aren't what they used to be.
  2. I have read that the Sox may only want prospects for Manny. They want to dump his salary, not get equal value. I suspect Izturis and a combo of our top young pitchers could get it done.
  3. I actually agree with you. I can't remember where, but I have seen some estimate that Lee could sign for as little as 10-11 million per. I think it would actually be more like 12-13, but he would still be a better value than Sori, I think. I like Soriano, but not for 6-7 years at 17+ million. And as you pointed out, Lee is a monster at Wrigley. I would feel better about Drew at 2-3 years at 14-15M and Lee at 3-4 years at 12-13M than Drew and Sori.
  4. I pity your skeleton. actually there are much better sources of calcium than milk including broccolli and other green vegatable. they also are free of growth hormones unlike cows milk. Unless you buy organic milk. That's all I give my daughter, since I don't want her "developing" at 9 years old like a lot of kids do because of all the hormones in milk and cheese these days. But yeah, veggies like broccoli have a lot of calcium, but who really eats enough of them? I love broccoli, but I don't know too many others that do.
  5. Along the milk vein....
  6. PepsiCo has been taking more and more of Coke's business every year over the past decade. I wouldn't worry about it. It was once unthinkable that Coke would one day not be king of the cola hill, but we're headed in that direction. Of course, that has more to do with marketing than product. Coca-Cola tastes like RC with talcum powder or something in it. Awful aftertaste. If faced with a choice between Coke and no soft drink, it's no soft drink. I can stomach Cherry Coke, but barely.
  7. I pity your skeleton.
  8. Pepsi. Coke is noxious liquid horror. I'd rather drink RC even. BTW, didn't we have this poll sometime before?
  9. Thanks, it was quite entertaining. I hope you avoided a hangover. I did, by continuously drunkenly ranting on this board and drinking water for nearly an hour. In fact, i got up and made a two and a half hour drive six hours after I finished my drunken ranting. If I didn't have a small child to take care of in the morning, I would have engaged in some drunken ranting myself. I fear my days of drunken anything are on long-term hold, however.

  11. Since very few posters gave him props for signing his own free agents (ARam, Wood, and Miller), I would think he should be ahead of the GMs that couldn't even sign their own free agents (Soriano, Drew, Schmidt, Zito, CLee, etc.). Evidently you missed the ARAM getting resigned thread. You have to go to page 2 to see it, but I think the last 30 or so pages of the thread are the vast majority of posters giving props for resigning ARAM. There were some props being given, but nothing compared to the beating he was taking saturday night/sunday morning. That thread was about 25% speculation, 25% worry, 40% Hendry bashing/drunken vitriol and 10% tepid foot-in-mouth praise/relief. The deadline had passed, there was no reason to believe that he would be signed as a cub the next afternoon. To say that the beating Hendry took on this board saturday night was unjustified is ridiculous (im not saying you said it was unjustified). BTB said that very few posters gave him props for signing his own FAs. I think if you go back to those three threads after the respective announcements had been made, you will find very little other than props. Bashing Hendry for not re-signing Ramirez was justified at the time that it seemed that was what had happened. I too was pissed/disappointed. The drunken rants were so melodramatic that it was actually funny, though.

  13. I heard that Jerry Crasnick is reporting that the Braves are close to a deal that would bring Jake Peavy, and send Marcus Giles, Horacio Ramirez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia to the Padres. I read this on MLBTraderumors, but if Crasnick said it, it may have some validity.
  14. Love it, but a slightly more realistic scenario might be: 1. Lugo 2. Murt 3. Manny 4. Lee 5. ARam 6. Barrett 7. Jacque Jones 8. DeRosa I could live with that. Not great, but probably a good start. I think that would be a darned good offense.
  15. Really? I'm starting to have a really good feeling about it. And it starts with the fact that we A) seem to have no interest in Zito, and B) are showing interested in Drew. I agree. I like that Hendry and Pineilla seem to be changing the philosophy a bit, targeting J.D. Drew and hiring a guy like Perry to be the hitting coach. I like that Hendry is working like his pants are on fire for a change. I love the payroll increase. I feel a whole lot better now than I did a couple weeks ago, that's for sure. What evidence is there that the Cubs are targeting Drew? I haven't seen any. :?: Do you need Hendry to hold a press conference an announce he is targeting him? I have seen a couple reports saying the Cubs are targeting him in this forum alone.
  16. Trade Izturis and prospects to Boston, nab Lugo and Drew, and then: 1.Lugo 2.DeRosa 3.Drew 4.Lee 5.M.Ramirez 6.A.Ramirez 7.Barrett 8.Jones  A man can dream......

  18. Guess your right. He still seems to be going at full speed, and much faster than in any previous off-season. Of course he is. He has more money than ever, and his substantial butt is on the line.
  19. They're all right caramel covered.
  20. I love fuji apples, with mcintosh second.
  21. I absolutely love the idea of Drew in the Cubs' outfield, but at the same time, the thought of giving him 4-5 guaranteed years scares the crap out of me.
  22. I wouldn't feel comfortable giving Schmidt a long term deal, and Zito just isn't worth 17 or 18 million per. The idea of Meche and Padilla don't excite me at all, but I'd rather give either of them 3-5 years than Schmidt. I wouldn't mind Zito, but he isn't the pitcher he was a few years ago, but he wants to be paid like he still is.
  23. Don't do this to me...... Well, if it was on ESPN 1000, it would have been all over this board. Do posters here actually listen to ESPN 1000? Yep, I do. Better than The Score. Anything is better than the score. Listening to the Score is equivalent to having an audio lobotomy.
  24. You would be surprised if he repeats 2004 but don't expect him to repeat 2005? Or you wouldn't be surprised if he repeats 2004? I don't think he'll fall off that much, but I'm not sure he'll outproduce his 2nd best season, 2003. I typed that poorly. I meant to say that I expect a line more similar to 2004 next season. I doubt he comes close to 2005's production. If he repeats 2004, this offense will be in trouble. They need 2003 at the minimum. I don't have a ton of confidence in his ability to recover from the wrist injury to the point where he can get around on inside pitches. If he's even a split second slower, pitchers are going to hammer him with inside fastballs. The fact that Lee will certainly regress from 2005 and end up somewhere between his 2003-4 numbers means that Hendry needs to make sure he retains Ramirez as well as make other moves to ensure that the offense improves. If Lee doesn't have Ramirez protecting him in the lineup, it will exacerbate his decline, as well. That is unless Hendry could replace Ramirez with a similar bat, which I doubt.
  25. I agree. If Anaheim gets to negotiate with him, it's over, IMO.
