    I agree Harvey or Burgess would have been a pick with much more upside, I think that pick had a lot more to do with the price tag then anything else And that's what pisses me off most about it. I agree 100% with you, a team that can spend 136 mil on soriano, 40 mil on lilly, 21 mil on marquis cant dish out a little extra money to a prospect with a high upside? It was very frustrating to watch I think the pending sale has a lot to do with it. All the big contracts were given out before the announcement.

    No. Of course the same could be said for the premise of this thread. Seeing a 37 year old outfielder that is well past his prime defensively misplay a flyball does not mean that he was not a great defender for a number of years. Edmonds was a great defender for a few years - in Anaheim. He hasn't been great for years. He is great at robbing homers and making difficult plays look spectacular. I have and will maintain that even going back 4-5 years, Edmonds was making the highlight reels for plays that Andruw Jones, Torii Hunter and others make look routine. For quite awhile Edmonds has been massively overrated because of his panache in the field.

    I think he's by far the most under-rated player on the team. Agreed. I just don't get some of the criticism. Yeah, it would be nice if he hustled down the line more, but it's no big deal. He's leading the team in homers, hitting around .300 and playing damn fine defense. As long as that continues, I don't care if he drives a Rascal out of the box.

    The throwing error was a relatively minor issue. If the ball doesn't get past him, it's not an issue at all. For that matter, it wouldn't really have been an issue if Zambrano hadn't totally sucked, either. It's certainly not justification for calling Barrett out right there in the dugout. Barrett deserved to be reprimanded for his lack of concentration and awareness. Just not by Z, the master of meltdowns and resident wacko. And certainly not in the demonstratively childish way he was, either.

    Actually, I think that's completely justified in that situation. whole situation is avoided if barrett just mans up and takes it. Owning your mistakes is one thing, putting up with what Z did is another altogether.

    Sometimes you have to own it. First Barrett calls for a pitch and gets crossed up Then he makes a really stupid play to compound the already stupid cross up. I looked to me like Z was telling Barrett to use his head. Wow, irony alert. Z is an unstable pre madonna that falls to pieces at the drop of a hat. He was a [expletive] joke today and if I was Barrett and this turd was throwing like he was today, I'd been pretty pissed about being called out by him. Who made more mistakes this game? Barrett or Zambrano? Zambrano was throwing batting practice today. To try to put the blame on others is unbeleivable childish. Zambrano acted like a lunitic in the dugout. That being said, if Barrett went in to the lockerroom to start round 2, that is absolutely inexcusable. Exactly. I am not nearly as disturbed by the fight itself as I am by the realization that Z may actually be less mature than he was when he came into the league.

    To me the manner in which Z approached Barrett is the key to this whole thing. Pointing at his head and insulting Barrett was the most childish thing I have seen in a long, long time. And if I were Barrett (being already frustrated, angry, defensive and not particularly bright), I wouldn't respond well to that puerile crap either. Who touched who first here is irrelevant. None of it would have happened if Z said what he had to say in something even remotely resembling an adult manner. Barrett responded poorly, but Z was the spark that lit the powder keg.

    What? What was on clear display today was the fact that Z has not grown up at all. Not one iota. These players are professional, not teenagers who want more allowance, and should be treated as such. Z let sloppy play get to him far too much, let it affect his pitching, then chastised Barrett in the dugout like a first grader. Barrett is not innocent here, but if Z hasn't grown up at all after 3+ full seasons in the majors, I doubt he ever will. Screw him.

    It doesn't matter who touched who first. Seriously. The fact it happened at all says enough. Plus Z coming at Barrett, pointing at his head, no doubt calling him a moron or something childish, tells me that Z hasn't really grown up at all over the past few years.

    TBS just showed a side angle, which made it looked like both parties went after each other at the exact same time. But does it really matter who did what first? The bottom line is that Z is a headcase, and Barrett isn't much better. One or both need to go.

    Oh please. Leaving after such an incident is not out of line. Agreed. He should be traded, but not because if this incident alone. I just want the Cubs to get what they can for him before the headcase walks in the offseason, or melts down even further.

    Why in god's name would anyone want him to? True. But this is the 2nd time in 3 years he's been one of the few reasons to give a crap. Aramis isn't doing too shabby. No he isn't. He's going to end up having a monster year. Aram and Lee have to be kept regardless of what happens.

    It is sad, but I was hoping to see Barrett fight back. Z needs his arse kicked. Z is done as a Cub soon. I think his non signing was a blessing in disguise. Funny how I have gone from loving Z to wanting him to just go away in the span of a couple months.
