  1. I don't think it would be as much as a disaster as some of you are making it out to be. For one, Steve Stone criticizes alot of the big contracts Hendry gives out. Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know 4 players = $80 of a years salary = bad. But it would be an improvement over Hendry. He has no experience, he's never been in any front office capacity. I remember being thrilled that Hendry got the GM job. He had some nice minor league experience and I really thought he would build this team the correct way. I still want somebody with Mr. Hendrys credentials and if there is a change at the top that's the direction I hope they go. I wouldn't be surprised to see the dude from Toronto slide into the slot. I just for once want someone who will take into account the complete picture, not just "old school" and not just all-out sabermetrics. I wouldn't mind Stone being one voice, but I'd want an equal if not more weight given to fresh, new ideas.
  2. Yeah once a GM reaches 65 he loses a few keys off his phone-dialing stroke.
  3. Steve Stone a few days ago on the SCORE: "I don't know what I'll be doing next year, but let's start with two things: it won't be GMing, and it won't be managing." Let's put this one to rest right now. Not happening.
  4. Bleh, I'll have to wait until I get home, my sound card doesn't work here.
  5. Was this the absolute worst AL/NLDS phase in the history of the Wild Card, or what? Not a decent series in the lot. Thoroughly non-entertaining. I liked how the Dallas/Buffalo Monday Night game drubbed this game in the ratings Monday night too. Buffalo gets a couple INTs and everyone runs from the vaunted Yankees like they're the plague. Niiiice. Elimination game, too. Let's put to rest the idea that the Yankees are a real draw. They're a draw until the absolute WORST NFL team makes a play in a nationally televised game. Then it's football for the rest of the night in like 95% of America's households.
  6. In addition to the backlash on Jones, I expect this to also garner some ire around here: I'm not quite there yet, but I must admit my confidence in Pie's hitting abilities is shaken.
  7. This can't be real. Just can't be. No way man. Trachsel? No damn way.

    Prior

Prior didn't have TJ. He had his shoulder scoped. I believe he's slated to start some basic long-toss throwing (or may have started already) soon. Yeah it was that shoulder reconstruction thingy. Similar to the one Carpenter had IIRC. No TJS for Prior. We'll see. One of the things I liked best about this season was that we finally ended the reliance on Wood & Prior being our 1-2 punch. Now if Marky Mark can give us anything at all, it's a bonus. Woody too if he comes back.
  9. Unreal. There should be a new rule. If you can't sell out your own frakkin stadium in the mutha frakkin PLAYOFFS, you forfeit that game.
  10. I wish to delude myself until the very, very end.
  11. Pessimistic, don't let yourself get excited version: Allen Patrick or whoever runs the ball for OU, it doesn't matter, makes our defense wish they were never born. Loadholt keeps Sulak from getting to the QB/ballcarrier by eating him like a gingerbread man. Daniel fumbles once and throws a pick. OU wins 35-21 Optimistic, just watched us humiliate Nebraska version: Gameday and OU is enough to get the defense motivated to stop the run again, or at least enough to put the offense back on the field. The offense is a frakking machine that's the reason we've been up 25+ points in the 3rd quarter of every game. Bradford proves my theory that first year QBs never go all the way. Mizzou wins 42-20 Middle ground: I'd be out of my mind to predict a road win against OU. They've got too much talent all the way around, and the best shot is that Mizzou's offense scores enough points to force OU to make some mistakes that might swing the game in our favor. OU wins 38-31 after a late Mizzou TD makes it look closer than it was. I'll be rooting for Mizzou. If they could pull it off it would just make the Illini look that much better. Of course I'm living in Illini dreamland, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
  12. I suspect the PSU-Wisconsin matchup will be well fought. There is no reason why PSU cannot win this game. Wisconsin's offense has been pretty solid of late, but now they'll be without both their starting WR's - Hubbard and Swan. They could struggle a bit with the passing game as PSU can primarily focus on Beckum. Defensively, Wisconsin has been porous against the run. They're young and inexperienced at key positions this year, and its showing big time. The game should be tight if PSU can effectively run and control the ball. If Wisconsin loses 2 Big Ten games in a row, there's going to be much weeping and gnashing of teeth here. People around here were fully expecting a Big 10 championship, especially after watching Michigan stumble early in the year.
  13. I doubt someone signs him as a starter. It would be a question mark if you put him at closer, too. Nobody can reliably say what would happen to Kerry's arm if a team needed him to close a few games in a row, or even just a lot of games over a month-long stretch.
  14. I think the grandstands were next on the Trib's list anyway, and I have little doubt that Cuban would consider it a challenge to maintain the look & feel of Wrigley while still bringing something new & better. If you look around Wrigley today vs., say, the 1970's.....that's what the Trib has been doing all along anyway.
  15. Seems like every year the Yanks start poorly, somehow manage to get it together for a massive run, and then revert to their April/May selves in time for October. Not sure why it's happening that way, but I do know it's NOT just because of ARod. ARod is the Yankees' scapegoat. If by some miracle the Cubs could benefit from that, then by all means NY, keep blaming ARod. ...and just for the record, the Yanks' October collapses are more fun to watch than just about everything in baseball. This year: KNAT ATTACK SINKS 'EM!!
  16. Hahahah. Seriously? Is this what NY believes? Steinbrenner's been an incorrigible gasbag throughout the entire time he's been owner of the Yanks. It's been Torre who has been patient through everything. I could see LaRussa going to New York. What would be great though is that Tony won't be able to put up with George's crap forever. At some point he's going to fire back. I'm thinking this could work out well. Those two might very well dogfight each other as the Yanks fade down in the standings. Perfect.
  17. I think Selig knows the potential of Cub fans throwing a huge revolt against him if Cuban is not given a fair shake. I just want him to have a fair and real chance. If he doesnt make the best offer I wont complain. How exactly would Cub fans carry out a revolt against the commissioner of baseball? blow his house up? im in i knew i could count on you Is this before or after the heroin to the forehead? Wrong poster. Treeman, not IMB, is the master of injecting heroin into ones forehead. However, I'm sure IMB is skilled as well. See, these are the sort of life skills they just don't teach in college.
  18. Watching Stanford come down with that game winning TD in beautiful high-def ranks up there with the best moments in sports for me in 2007. It was truly an amazing thing to see. Right in the face of a packed Coliseum, too. I'm not sure it can be topped, really.
  19. You're right, but if I was a professional columnist I wouldn't want to have to resort to stupidity to garner interest. And I certainly wouldn't want to be known as a fool just to be able to say I sold papers.
  20. I disagree. Colorado is still possibly able to deal Helton for something young and usable, while Atkins will shift to 1st and Ian Stewart will take over at 3rd base. I think they have a great young core to build around. Arizona won 90 games with the youngest team in the majors. Milwaukee is still a couple years away from feeling the pinch of arbitration and post arbitration. If any of these teams sign ONE key free agent, they all get better. They will all be looking at pitching, but even without it, they still look good for years to come. We have young guys who can play, and we have bigger payrolls, but we got lucky this year. We played in the worst division in baseball, and we barely pulled it out. I just don't see it for next year, short of signing ARod and finding a legit RF. One key signing doesn't always change things. Atlanta picked up the hottest player on the market and then promptly tanked. It happens quite a bit, actually. It's a little more complicated that you are making it out to be. Every year is a different year. Nobody knows what will happen in '08, standing here in Oct '07.
  21. Oooohhhhhh, how we love our grinders. Keep Theriot, and dump ARam. Word.
  22. I doubt Bruce would comment on a colleague, but it would be nice to know if Rozer is [expletive] or something. That's got to be some of the most idiotic crap I've ever read. Overrated defensively? He was up for gold glove this year, it was his best year defensively in his career for Christ's sake. A sin to be injured and have a doctor look at the injury? WTF??
  23. Why? did Soriano and Ramirez tell him when they signed their massive contracts that they only planned on trying through September, and then theyd half ass their way through the next 3 games? He put together a playoff team. Nothing he did caused this collapse. 85 wins in a terrible division. it's not a collapse, it's a natural conclusion. Bingo! +1
  24. Ahahahah. I should have been a sports writer. We don't finish within 5 games of first place without ARam, but hey yea great idea lets "unload" his contract!
  25. We need to get the farm right, I agree.
