  1. Not sure why people are knocking the DeVry shuttle. I've done it twice, and it's perfectly fine. Of course the shuttles are packed after the game. Also packed after the game: all the trains, all the streets, and all the parking lots surrounding the stadium.
  2. The 1985 Cubs were 35-19 at this point and finished 77-84. The 1969 Cubs were 37-17 at this point and finished 92-70. I think there's a real good chance the '85 Cubs would have fared much better had all 5 starters not gone down at one point, I distinctly remember Rick Sutcliffe pulling his hammy trying to beat out a grounder. For all the legend and lore surrounding the "great collapse" of '69, that team still finished 22 games above .500 and would have been worthy of a playoff spot in many an era.
  3. So either late baseball today, or no baseball?
  4. Exactly what I was thinking. What a joke that is. You can call the scorer and have your own error overturned? Wow, what's that all about?
  5. Yeah, but this isn't close to the same Rockies team Lilly faced in the playoffs. ummm....when did lilly face the rockies in the playoffs? sorry, brain fart. last year.
  6. It makes me chuckle. I just never pegged Ryno for the hothead type. I would have laid money he was going to be the quiet type as a manager.
  7. Yeah, but this isn't close to the same Rockies team Lilly faced in the playoffs.
  8. That would be very interesting for me, because I'm heading down for tomorrow's game. If there's a DH I'll bet I can grab a ticket for the 2nd game and make a whole day out of it.
  9. unless wood blows a save in the ninth inning of game seven of the world series... then we go find budhouse and tear him limb from limb Knowing our luck as Cubs fans, he'll have saved 40 in a row giving up 3 runs in 45 appearances leading up to that game 7 WS blown save. I'm not sure my heart can handle another situation like this. '84 killed my innocence. '03 almost killed me. '84, game 4 - I can still see Lee Smith giving up that HR to popeye arms Steve Gravey, Henry Cotto climbing the fence in a vain effort to catch it - man, I hated Lee Smith. After that I knew it was over, sure the Cubs had an 3-0 lead in game 5 but, I knew it was over. Just like I knew it was over after we blew it in the 8th inning of game 6 in the NLCS. Wood on the mound, not withstanding. You don't lose a game the way we did and come back and win....and we didn't. ](*,) I gotta believe if Woody's the closer in a decisive NLCS or WS game, he's not going to let this happen again. He sucked in game 7 in '03. He knows it, he admitted it. You've got to believe a guy like Wood is going to destroy people if he gets the chance again. If he throws the ball like he did last night, no team in the league is scoring a run on him.
  10. It was a one run game, and you can bet if he pulled Z and the relief pitcher blew it people would be lambasting Lou for that, too. As long as Lou in conscious of it and gets Z more rest to make up for it, Z will drop back down on that PAP list and everything will be fine. If he continues to ride him like that all year, then yea there's a problem.
  11. This is never, ever, ever, ever happening. I wish people would stop talking about it. Seems highly unlikely, agreed. I do think we have some players that would draw interest from other teams for possible trades, though.

  13. I hope you're happy when the Lakers have won about 4 NBA championships in a row. :x I know. But for now, it's good to see the Spurs die.
  14. I love this thread. It has been granted eternal life.
  15. Thank God someone finally killed off the Spurs.
  16. I think it's still an open question whether this roster is going to be blown up, and Hollinger's entire article is based on everything staying pretty much the same. I've heard some others speculating that the Collins hire means major roster changes are to come, as well. It's still a good read, though. But I think it's also important to point out that he mentions Collins is one of the best coaches in the league at getting immediate improvement when he is brought in. The fact that he levels off after 3 years is somewhat of a red herring. Most NBA coaches do. Actually, most NBA coaches don't last that long regardless of what they try to do, unless they've got that superstar to carry the team to a championship.
  17. I'm not sure I did. It's pretty late in the game. Just my own curiosity -- who did you have in mind? Avery Johnson. I really don't mind the hiring of Collins, to be honest with you. Avery was definitely there for the taking. I'd be interested in knowing what made the Bulls say no to him.
  18. Nasty. Sheesh, that was like old Kerry!
  19. He was; Taveras made a terrific throw. Torrealba just couldn't corral it. Rough time for Torrealba. That was pretty much horrible, you can't ask your CF to do any more than that.
  20. OK! Yeah, um.....great. This game's looking crappier all the damn time.
  21. DAMN YOU WUERTZ IF YOU WALK IN A RUN!
  22. I'm not sure I trust Wuertz with the bases jammed.
  23. The chick in that GMC commercial is crazy hot.
  24. Well, that one wasn't as good. Lou going to the well again. Shame, Helton *barely* got a piece of that one.
