  1. I'm a mess today. I really need to get to work. I have a feeling if we were to lose tonight I'll be depressed about it. I'm normally not depressed more than 30 minutes after a loss, but this feels different. I feel like we need to win today to get off on the right foot.
  2. That's the problem. They aren't content just enjoying their championship. They are more proud of the fact that they have one and the Cubs don't. The Cardinals have 10 championships, but their fans are generally easier to deal with than White Sox fans. The Cardinals are happy for their team, not glad that it wasn't the Cubs. I never had a problem with the Sox or most of their fans until they won it all. Now its just aggravating to even listen to them talk about baseball. I have 2 uncles that are White Sox/Packer fans. It's like listening to a human ass, walking around on two legs.
  3. That's what it looks like when your boss is an insane freak and he decides to turn his eye towards destroying you. You don't want to be anywhere near that when it happens. I feel sorry for his replacement, although the fact that he's a defacto coach should offer him some protection since Al probably doesn't consider him any kind of real solution anyway.
  4. I also hope Hinrich is the odd man out. To my eyes, he's regressed pretty badly. At the very least, he could use a change of scenery so it could be a win-win situation for both parties.
  5. Fair warning: I don't have the willpower to stay away from this game thread and I'm going to be freaking out tonight if the game is at all close. Good, glad we got that out of the way.
  6. What a character assassination by Al Davis. If that man offered me a job I would run screaming and then go and change my name legally.
  7. I'll take it. Please be patient with Lowe and don't swing at his low-and-away slider, Cubs. I'm beggin' here.
  8. I'm surprised it took that long.
  9. Marmol for freaking Beltran? Sign me up.
  10. Marquis is a bargain all of a sudden, sheesh.
  11. Source It looked to me like he got hurt breaking the huddle. He seemed to get up fine after the play, but didn't go down until after they went into the huddle for the next play. So he's Mark Bradley mach 2. Wonderful.
  12. If you're still alive. I've got a feeling many people are already gone from their pool after such upsets as Phins/Pats.
  13. I don't know. He was given a year with a horrible insane mess to clean up, then Davis started going public with his dislike of him. Sure sounds to me like the boss didn't give his employee much of a chance to succeed.
  14. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-080929-kosuke-fukudome-chicago-cubs,0,6473359.story Just read this also. Good to hear... :good:
  15. If this team lets down after last years howryfests, then we should just pack it in. Just let that set in, we got swept by the Lions last year. I hate losing games like this. Don't even think about it, Bears.
  16. Davis needs to turn over operations to someone who can actually run the team effectively. He's really just not able to do it anymore. Time to pass it down Al. I can't imagine anyone wanting to work for him at this point. He's become a joke.
  17. Who in their right mind would take the Raiders job?
  18. I think so. But from what I'm hearing up here, there's hope that it isn't serious, at most he would miss next week. They play the Falcons next week -- a team they can probably beat by running the ball and dinking & dunking with Flynn provided they play defense, maybe get a couple key turnovers. If it's more serious though, all bets are off.
  19. Haha, the general public must think that the Bears are an awesome team, having watched them dismantle Indy on the road and then Philly. Actually, I think you're right. Many people do think we're pretty good this year. I'm not saying we aren't. They've proven a lot to me. Honestly we're talking about the Colts, Eagles, and 2 3-1 teams (Bucs and Panthers), and the Bears have either won, or held a double digit second half lead against all of them. They aren't great, but they are good. No whether good means 8-8 or good means 10-6, that remains to be seen. They still have the Jags, Titans, Saints and all our divisional games left. I'm trying to decide if I should stick with my original ".500 is a successful season" line, or get greedy and start expecting playoffs. With the Packers looking more & more flawed each week, I'm starting to get my hopes up.

  21. Watch the letdown effect, boys.
  22. All 3 of the other AL teams are superior to them. If they get through that, then they probably deserve that trip to the WS. Why do some of you feel the need to worry about what WSI is doing? I never even knew that site existed until I heard complaints about it here. It's Sox fans who are supposed to obsess over the Cubs, not the other way around. Come on now.
  23. Wow this game is boring. There's more excitement on CNN right now watching everyone freak out about the stock market.
  24. Eh, I like him but his act has grown a little old for me.
  25. Who knows, in a few weeks, we could be singing the praises of Bob Howry, he's got all the symptoms of the unlikely playoff hero. During the regular season couldn't get a little league team out - check Manager, defying all baseball logic, sticks with him - check Every time he got up in the bullpen Cub fans cringed, fans of the Cubs' opponents cheered - check In mystery akin to the identity of Jack the Ripper somehow makes the Post Season roster - check And there you have it, although I don't believe Lou is going to use him in any high leverage situations thereby, not giving him the chance to the Hero, well see. I like your optimism, but I'm really afraid of Howry cancelling out all the great things we've worked so hard to achieve this year. He also has the makings of a guy who can throw away sure victories in one inning. Cancel out any advantage the Cubs might have in other matchups. Throw all of the north side into a clinical depression. Please don't use him Lou.
