  1. In other news (the kind that will interest more than just fans of the East Coast), there have actually been plenty of real no-hitters this year to be excited about, none of them involving Boston: I'm sure everyone here is aware of them, but here's the list anyway: American League July 26 -- Matt Garza, Tampa Bay vs. Detroit, 5-0 May 9 -- x-Dallas Braden, Oakland vs. Tampa Bay, 4-0 National League June 26 -- Edwin Jackson, Arizona at Tampa Bay, 1-0 May 29 -- x-Roy Halladay, Philadelphia at Florida, 1-0 April 17 -- Ubaldo Jimenez, Colorado at Atlanta, 4-0 x-perfect game 2 perfect games, no less.
  2. Do people realize that starting record is a poor way to evaluate QB play? Not that he didn't suck last year, but if that's what you're getting at, then say that. QB record is the NFL's version of pitcher record. It's the team stat that the whole damn world insists on applying to an individual and no amount of reasoning can stop it.
  3. It might help to actually show what you're talking about. We aren't ready/listening along with you.
  4. Hard to believe camp is about to open already. Summers' just......flyin' by for me.
  5. I don't know. I think there's a difference between a guy like Valentine saying he'd love the job from a distance, and a guy like Valentine actually jumping at the job once he knows more of the details of the contracts & constraints of the team he'd be joining. Especially if Ricketts really is going to try to rein this thing in a bit.
  6. So hypothetically: if Favre somehow became a Bear. I'd hate it until he started throwing TD passes. I think you're right, UMFan. That's a bit shallow :) But I can't help it. If the guy is generating wins for my club, my attitude on him starts to change pretty quickly. Jimmy Ed starting hitting those dingers and I simply had to cheer it.
  7. LOL, he made it to the 5th or 6th inning? ESPN all over that one as long as its Boston.
  8. Didn't McGrady complain rather loudly about playing time in Houston? I really don't want him around if he's going to make that kind of noise on the team. He'd be support only, and I wouldn't want someone like that bitching about how he isn't starter material anymore and can't deal with it.
  9. If Pujols suddenly became a Cub, you can bet my order for the Pujols Cub jersey would be placed very quickly. Jimmy Ed -- he hasn't made any disparaging comments towards the Cubs since playing for us (that I know of). We gave him an opportunity he might not have had elsewhere, and my feeling is that he appreciates it. That tends to turn attitudes around, and so provided he doesn't come and say something like "oh hell yea, I hated those idiot Cub fans even when I was playing for them!" -- I'm not going to hold the same ire for him that I did when he was a Cardinal. I guess I'm just different in that respect to UMFan.
  10. Alright, he held the base. Get the damn hit Starlin
  11. Hooray for blind chipmunks and found nuts.
  12. Everything seems up, and without a lot of mustard on it. This might not be good for us
  13. No risk in bringing in an undrafted FA for a look. Nice college numbers.
  14. This. Trouble is, our fearless leader won't let him go.
  15. Kurt Thomas, a mentor? OK, I don't know the guy personally, but it seems like many times when I've seen his name come up it has been in the context of him being a jagoff in some way, shape, or form. When thinking of washed up big men who could serve as mentors, Kurt Thomas is a name that just wouldn't occur to me. At all. Do Not Like
  16. So he's found a level he can succeed at, and it's not the top level. Good for him. I wish Matty Murt well.
  17. There's a slim chance I will win the powerball.
  18. And with less overall money to work with than Jim. There's no way Williams is a worse GM than Hendry. It's the other way around.
  19. They apparently wanted to make their position public ahead of time to somehow cement a PA appeal. I really don't know how all that works, but it does sound like there might be an arbitration hearing or something.
  20. I do agree with the idea that we've done about as good as can be expected given Lebron-Wade-Bosh went elsewhere. I'm actually fairly excited to see how this team performs next year. Even though a Championship is far-fetched, it should still be a significantly higher quality of basketball night in and night out.
  21. LOL. In fairness, he obviously had no clue who he was looking at. But it illustrates Beck's way of thinking pretty succinctly, doesn't it.
  22. So 4 guys who aren't currently managing and all have current or very recent ties to the club would like to be managers of said club? And one of the people they mentioned, Joe Torre, didn't even say he's interested specifically in the Cubs job. He just said he wouldn't rule anything out. I'm not ruling anything out either, people. Ya never know.
