  1. Considering I am being spoiled with Olympics results each time I visit Google News, I don't think this thread's spoilers are going to give me fits. ....and I cannot resist going to google news. i'm too far gone to change for 2 weeks.
  2. But I thought Hub declared him to be weak and generally bad.
  3. I've only read about half of it, but for an out-of-town article this has a good amount of detail.
  4. The gymnastic/swimming/track & field golds are more meaningful though, IMO.
  5. by "improved" i mean not tank within the first 2 months of the season. by "do something" i mean be at least somewhat competitive. look at some of the teams in the wild card chases this year. by the beginning of the 2014 season, i think we'll have enough in the system to be excited about to the point where we can say "if we get some stuff to fall our way, we could actually be playing for something late in the season this year" it's baseball, and there are 2 wild cards now. i think writing off the 2014 season at this point is silly, even if theo/jed continue to operate the way they have been. OK, that's a pretty low bar though. Somewhat competitive would still mean missing the playoffs in a all likelihood. I'll just say I expect the Cubs to miss the playoffs in 2013 and 2014, and make the playoffs in 2015.
  6. I can't see anything near .500 in 2013. Where are the solid starting performances going to come from, over the course of 162 games?
  7. They were all great until they started talking about watching the Athens games when they were 8. Heh. I like how they talk about how they've worked their whole lives for this. You're 16.
  8. Define improved. And "do something."
  9. We'd be very fortunate to turn in a solid season in 2014. My thinking is more on the 2015 timeframe. I think we need 2 more seasons to flesh things out -- find out who from our system will develop vs. who will fail, then make the acquisitions to compensate. It's not fun to think about, but this is long-term.
  10. Theo is the smartest guy in the room. I'm really excited to start seeing the fruits of his labors.
  11. Admittedly I don't watch a ton of gymnastics, but I can't believe how incredible that landing looks. Inhuman.
  12. I was hoping he'd never visit again. Nay. As long as it is only a few posts, I like 'em. A lyrical genius he is not. Meatball flinger is much more in his wheelhouse.
  13. Why does this thread keep popping to the top of the list? Stewart hasn't played in a month and a half and he's not coming back any time soon. It's reasonable to think he'll never play for the Cubs again. In order to move on, I humbly suggest this thread be locked. Other discussions can be continued elsewhere.
  14. Would have probably been helpful if the Dodgers hadn't won their last 3 games in a row, against the team they are chasing.
  15. I have as high hopes for McClellin as anyone, but I'd rather not hear from the Bears about his special teams prowress anymore. Tell me about your hopes for him as a difference maker on the D-Line. That's what I want to hear about. Being capable of contributing on special teams is a given -- not something noteworthy for a 1st rounder.
  16. [expletive] yeah!!!! are you legitimately happy or just happy he's a bruin? It sounds like he's a significant question mark. The talent was there coming out of college, but injuries and personal issues derailed him. He also had a falling out of sorts in Tampa. We're giving up next to nothing for him. If he pans out, his original value was much higher than a 7th rounder. This statement makes me cringe: That just sounds nasty. I know modern medicine is amazing and all, but I can't even imagine going through something like that. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/football/bears/ct-spt-0727-bits-bears-chicago--20120727,0,1815246.story
  17. You had it right the first time. If she's not good enough to make the Olympics, she belongs in some other thread, but not this one.
  18. In other words, we're getting a rock. No. In other words, our FO isn't caving in like previous FO's would have.
  19. For a phone pic, not bad :)
  20. Might it actually be a positive if the Dodgers work another trade and then shut the door completely? Then at least Dempster would know that LA isn't going to happen.
  21. That's about the worst pic I've seen of her, but yeah.....don't get it.
  22. Apparently this is the Phelps ID photo for London. http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/michael-phelps-olympics-headshot.jpg
  23. I made the mistake of taking a sip of water before reading gville's post. And now, I must clean my laptop.
  24. Sneaky Lovie. Don't think I'll make it to camp this time around, post pics please.
  25. Those are either really big dudes, or that is one small woman.
