  1. It's one tweet from Jimmy Johnson.
  2. I would be disappointed, although not devastated by this hire. He's older than and has been out of the NFL longer than both Gruden and Cowher. His NFL resume is scattered, at best. His last American job was as an OC at a third rate college team. I question how much respect he has among NFL coaches and how much pull he will have in trying to bring quality ones on to this staff. Theoretically he could keep the entire defensive staff in place, plus Bates as his OC, and then he'd just have to fill out the offensive underlings. But that is going to be important. He had a pretty good year with Oakland in 2002, then was gone suddenly. I assume this had to do with Callahan and his overall ineptness since Trestman would have been a Gruden hire in '01. But then, nothing - other than the one year in Miami. I'm not sure why he didn't stick around in the NFL. I would probably be disappointed as well. But I'm kind of confused by his career.
  3. Well, this is the week before championship week. Best case scenario involving teams in the playoffs, would be to hire a guy on Monday. If ONLY Emery's #3 guy is available, but he really wants #1 or 2, then he only has to wait 1 more week to get his guy. After the championship games next Sunday, teams have 2 weeks off. So, win or lose, you can hire a coach that next Monday. It's not worth settling for only a week. If Dennison was the #3 and the Texans lost last week, then maybe you hire him if he's not a very distant 3rd choice. So, it would be fair game to hire, say, McCoy on Jan 21st even if the Broncos are in the Super Bowl? Somehow I missed that detail. I thought they would only interview a 2nd time but still need to wait until Feb 4.
  4. Please no I'm sure the meatballs would love this. In Chicago? Yes, I think so.
  5. Let's say the #3 guy is eliminated this week. He's on the list. You like him. Do you jump at him now, or still wait for the others?
  6. It sounds like the Bears are the only team interviewing him -- at least so far.
  7. OK, enough of this. You are scaring me.
  8. I think both are headed for their respective conference championships :(
  9. The only question that matters in my mind is when Cowher would be interested in interviewing and actually coming back. He recently said he doesn't want to come back for another 4 or 5 years. He also said he has been contacted by several teams and turned them all down because he isn't interested in coaching in 2013. Unless he's lying, I'm not sure there is much point talking about him as a serious candidate. Once he agrees to interview somewhere, I'm sure his name will by flying around all over the place.
  10. I'm not saying that I want him, but I think it's fair to say that Trestman is getting his interviews off his work in the NFL as a QB coach / OC, and less for his HC gig in Canada.
  11. I called about the job a few days ago and Phil hasn't gotten back to me.
  12. We will see soon enough. I certainly hope that some of the picks from last year were due to remnants of the old regime still in place. Because nobody can argue, some of those picks had all the hallmarks of "Angleo reaches" -- starting with the #1 guy chosen. So, let's all hope for a clean break this year, and a much more comprehensible draft strategy.
  13. OK Vandy was a reach, ha, but having not seen ND play at all this year, I was stunned at the difference in speed and physicality between the teams. Physicality, maybe. But the speed difference was pure B1G vs. SEC stuff that we see all the time. Not surprising at all. If OSU wasn't on probation, and made this game, the results would have been very, very similar.
  14. Hmm, I thought Tice would have been Lovie's hire (as most coordinators are the HC's pick). As for the draft, you've got to give McClellin more than one season, and Hardin we don't know much about due to injury. Alshon Jeffrey looks pretty good so far. It's a little harsh at this point to say he botched it, IMO. Though the lack of attention to OLine is downright maddening.
  15. Somebody tweeted last week that they had been informing candidates they were already down to 2, but I assume this is all just rumor and assumptions and Emery's is being straightforward about looking everywhere. Anybody know who the 2 candidates Emery likes? Of course not, or it would be plastered everywhere.
  16. I've heard that Toub is a great football mind. Not sure where I heard that, or if it's true, but I like to think it is. Could be, but I'd rather not go from Lovie Smith, to one of his assistants. New blood, thx :)
  17. Grrr, Ohio State would have been destroyed by Alabama too.
  18. Dang, he really is going to interview the entire league.
  19. I worry about that, but I can't point to anything concrete that says he'll blow it.
  20. They keep a camera on her at all times, it seems. Doesn't help that the football is unwatchable.
  21. Look at the picture they have of Emery in that [expletive] article. LOL.
  22. championship grrrrrrr Hehe. Saw jersey's post and immediately thought of you.
  23. Have you noticed a lot of news about the other interviews? I've only heard blurbs about whether or not they happened. Well we heard about the one that went 6 hours instead of 3. McCoy is possibly the highest profile candidate so I thought we'd hear some sort of reaction from a beat writer. I'd like to hear any reaction, of course, but since these are presumably closed door interviews, someone in the room would have to leak something. I assume Emery is going to keep his own reactions close, since he has said he doesn't want to exclude anyone. At least not yet. Also, Clements & McCoy still have a chance to be in the Super Bowl. If they do, a 2nd interview can't happen until after the conference championships. Here's a Biggs article on what lays ahead this week in the search: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-01-06/sports/ct-spt-0107-bears-chicago--20130107_1_offensive-coordinator-phil-emery-bruce-arians
  24. I guess the only thing that really matters is what the top 1 or 2 candidates for the job think about it. But man, that's some incredible nonsense from Aikman. First of all, it doesn't even address the lack of OLine scouting and acqusition that has been taking place in Chicago for years. And secondly, my god YES guys like Mike Tice are not good enough to run an offense in the NFL.
  25. I'm surprised at Aikman. Not Sharpe.
