  1. Our offense is so bad this will go down as another shaky Hill performance. In reality, good teams win games with outings like this all the time.
  2. The league has just made an adjustment to Cedeno.
  3. I guess you can't dislike when a player is playing bad and celebrate when he is doing well? To me that's what being a fan is all about. Jock was SUCKING. So fans booed. Now he's not, so they aren't. The reality of major professional sports...
  4. And this is my point. Although, as UM pointed out, there was a time when Dusty used to get mad. I remember a certain game against the Cardinals in '03, for example, when he & LaRussa went at it pretty good. I've got to wonder what happened. Now he just rolls his eyes and chews his toothpick, no matter what happens.
  5. Ahh, ye of the instant gratification generation. Maybe it will inspire them tomorrow.. Maybe not. With Dusty, we'll never even know what would happen. Maybe Dusty not raving like a lunatic will inspire the Cubs tomorrow. Maybe my crap will be green and smell like rainbow sherbet. And maybe we should look at where Dusty's act has gotten the Cubs, versus Ozzie's & the White Sox...
  6. The Cubs would have to eat his contract right? Unfortunately, the Cubs are at the point where if they want to right this ship they're going to have to eat a few contracts.
  7. Now he's got an awful ballclub and an empty minor league system. He's blown his wad. No more cards to play and nothing to show for it. Hendry's dogmeat. And we're stuck with this turkey for years more. What a mess.
  8. I believe Nomar had the whole "not all that excited about playing" problem before he came to the Cubs. He wasn't too happy in 2004 with Boston and that's the main reason they traded him. And I'm sure Nomar was really trying to completely tear his groin also. That was all part of his master plan to get away from Dusty. It was one of the most freakish serious injuries I've ever seen. At least consider the possibility that lack of preparation before the game contributed to that one. At least *consider* it. Wouldn't that be his own fault though not Baker's? Isn't it a player's job to get himself ready to play for the game. Taking batting/fielding practice is one thing, but shouldn't an adult, and somebody who has been in the league for a number of years know how to get himself ready to play. I don't think any of what happened to Nomar is Baker's fault. Yeah, it would be his own fault. I'd like a climate of winning on the North Side though, and we have a climate of losing-----for 97 years. I look to ownership/GM/Manager to provide a climate of winning first, then the players follow suit. Does anyone seriously doubt that if Nomar resigned he would have either proceeded directly to the DL or gone into a Pierre-esque slump? Of course he would have.
  9. Nomar @ 2B, Walker in RF maybe?

  11. Len said something to the effect that he thought Maddux signaled he was done. I don't know if that's really what happened though. At any rate, he had given up a run and had 2 baserunners. Despite the pitch count, it did look like he was beginning to struggle a bit. Middle relief came in and got the job done. Then Dempster, who let's be honest probably doesn't quite remember what it means to close a game anymore, gave up the gaffer. This is how losing teams keep losing.

  13. With Dusty it's all about who you are, not what you can do. If you're Pierre you can stink to high heaven for months and nothing happens to you because you have that World Series ring. If your Murton you grab bench even if you are hitting .300 That's not the philosophy I want from my favorite baseball team's manager.
  14. It was just last inning. I think Minny scored all 5 of their runs. Did he get tossed before, during, or after the runs? During. They had 3 runs, then he got tossed, then Minny got another 2-run single.
  15. It was just last inning. I think Minny scored all 5 of their runs.
  16. Sox got ripped on a foul tip call, Ozzie comes out and rips into the Umps & gets tossed. Dusty would sit there like a bump on a log in that situation, or at the very most come out and strike up a pleasant conversation that accomplishes nothing. It's just one more thing I don't like about Baker. Not that he needs to act like a buffoon ala Earl Weaver every game. But how about a little fire every once in awhile, especially with a team as apathetic as this one?
  17. Just injuries? Or perhaps not all that excited about playing for Baker, hence less prepared, hence more susceptible to injury---? I guess we'll never know.

    Fire Dusty

Not all Baker's fault. But part of it is. And he's the manager of a MLB club. The name of the game is win or go home. He hasn't won. So time to go home. It's really very simple. The Tribune should be seriously thinking about eating Hendry's extension and firing him too, BTW.
  19. Interesting that Hendry likes 'toolsy' players yet his organization doesn't do a good job of developing raw talent at the lower levels. It's not a good combination. If you want to be the guys who develop raw physical skills, then that's great, but you better have the infrastructure to turn them into good ballplayers. We don't have that, at least not for position players. That might explain alot too. Wrong philosophy for the infrastructure we have in place. Of course, the alternate explanation would be that we just stink at developing players period. Right now, I'm inclined to agree with that assessment. The track record is poor.
  20. Firing Baker might not yield immediate results, true. However, Hendry only gets so many hires before folks above him give up and fire him. We can't get to the next Hendry hire (which I think will be his last, but whatever) until Baker is unloaded. And who knows? Maybe Hendry will get lucky and hit the jackpot. If the next manager will use our pitchers in such a way that he doesn't blow their arms to hell, then I'd say it's an improvement.
  21. I'll be there on the 12th. I'm prepared to boo if they perform badly that day, but I won't be booing just because I'm angry about past games. If you can find a way for me to have a bullhorn connected directly to Dusty's ear, I'll boo him from sunrise to sunset. By the way, the weather reports for this weekend are downright awful. This could be one of those cold, rainy, bad series with the Cubs just getting torched and nobody in the stands. That would be terrible. Hope it doesn't happen.
  22. Unfathomable. Even I didn't think Pierre would do this bad. We're getting to mid May now. He might not be coming out of it. This might be it. Can't we just bring up Pie and dump Bynum?
  23. I agree this would matter, if we had any offense whatsoever.
