Barroid's a cheat. Simple as that. Is he a great player without the roids? Of course. But he would not be where he is home run wise without them. So let the asterisks reign. ****
  2. 3 year deal how did a slim free agency market force his hand for 3 years? Because there wasn't much else to choose from at the time, and Jones' agent knew that. 3 years, Mr. Hendry, or suffer with whatever slop you have in the minors @ RF. Not that I'm excusing Hendry. Especially when it comes to RF. He knew when he took the job that Sosa wasn't long for this league. Yet he did nothing. He's done nothing but stop-gap crap in RF since Sosa left. Players have been available for teams who possess enough desire to win to go out and get 'em. But not Hendry, not the Cubs. Now we're in a bottomless hole. And there's no way out.
  3. He did about as much as could be done without having Andy walk out on him or putting his job in jeopardy. I understand what you're saying and agree, but the Trib *will* fire people for saying the wrong things and everyone knows it. It's a little much to ask Kap to put his family's livelihood in jeopardy over an interview. ....and they did rip the Cubs for about an hour afterwards. I'm sure that was with permission from the Trib, of course. I'm pretty sure the Trib has been censoring their people for years now. It's just that, since 2003, folks have actually started to care about this ballclub so they're demanding more tough answers.
  4. No worries, Womack is on the way. Cubs do need more speed. Yes, it takes us entirely too long to get back to the dugout after swinging at Ball 4 over & over.
  5. You can start reading around page 3 of this thread for blow-by-blow descriptions & reactions. Cliff notes: blah blah blah, BA with RISP, blah blah, need to go back to April, blah blah, Hendry not thinking about Baker, blah blah, 2005 Stros, blah blah talk to Dusty about Wrigley's grass length, blah blah.
  6. ?? murton, cedeno, hill, guzman, marshall and williams have gotten a chance to play. How about Pie? no reason to call him up and have patterson part II. he doesn't need to be infected by this sick bunch anyways. keep him in iowa. Can we outsource his development to another team's minor league system? That would be much better. Iowa's record of producing position talent isn't exactly awe-inspiring.
  7. Best case scenario is, I wake up to discover it's still 2003, I fell asleep during game 6 and had this nightmare, and I regain consciousness just in time to see AGONE field the DP ball perfectly to bail Prior out of trouble.
  8. If opposing pitchers had simply not thrown Dubois any fastballs, he would've never made it out of A ball. That's probably got a lot to do with it. Yeah, but now I wonder if players like Doobs would have turned out alright if a different team taught him. The evidence is pretty overwhelming that the Cubs aren't getting anything from their talent, and other teams are.
  9. he can't handle personal situations well at all, but I'd take him over Hendry in a heartbeat. He knows how to setup a good team, something Hendry has failed to do. Agreed. Want someone who follows protocol and loses, or someone who breaks protocol and wins? If I have to make the choice? The latter, definitely.
  10. Pretty good point. However, if they keep pushing more & more games to off-color local jobbies like CLTV and CSN+, you might start seeing cable carriers go "we already have a WB channel, cya."
  11. LOL, this is hilarious. Watch it guys, the Trib might be sending pink slips as we speak.
  12. Cards payroll is 78 million?!? Wow. This I did not know. Someone explain to MacPhail the difference between passion and desire to win, and spending empty cash so you can claim you care.
  13. So you knew it back then just by looking at the numbers and applying a little logic. You know more about baseball than MacPhail. Either that, or he knows but just won't say what he's really thinking.
  14. comcast sports net ++ , i think i saw that last year WCIU, ect BS I see WGN and WCIU listed as carrying games, and CSN, and then there's CSN+ in addition, usually when there's another game on. So that's just CLTV? I'm guessing the only reason they refer to it as CSN+ is because they may go to the game on CSN if their other programming is delayed (namely the White Sox are in a rain delay). That and that it's CSN's production and camera equipment. There's a CSN alternate channel on DirecTV. It's channel 668, and I have watched the Cubs on this channel when there is a White Sox game on at the same time.
  15. You said it man. At one point MacPhail said "Firing Dusty is the furthest thing from Hendry's mind." That's a paraphrase, but it's what he said. Christ Almighty. If your GM isn't even thinking about the possibility he has the wrong manager right now, then there's absolutely no doubt you've got the WRONG GM!
  16. You guessed it: http://www.artistdirect.com/Images/Sources/AMGPORTRAITS/music/portrait200/drp100/p165/p16556j26g5.jpg Hah, nice.
  17. Just raise her to be a Yankees fan like everyone else. At least you know she won't have to go through this crap all the time.
  18. So, who is really in charge of the Cubs? No seriously. Nobody really believes Andy has control......right?
  19. Oh my God here we go with the Astros crap again. Give me a freaking break.
  20. MacPhail: all that matters is the pitching you develop. Position player development doesn't matter (paraphrase, but that's what he meant).
  21. This is it. Here's the disconnect. MacPhail clearly all out stating there is no emphasis on position players.
  22. Talks about getting back to how they played in April. Absolute bunk. April was the aberration, Andy boy. What you're seeing right now is the real team, not the other way around.
  23. Yeah, if you read between the lines it definitely sounds like Kap wasn't all too thrilled with the outcome.
  24. The interview was taped. Nice. I'll bet that was another board room decision from the Trib
  25. no, but setting record attendance #'s with a 70 win team isn't incentive to go out of their way to win either. Until the ticket money drys up, we get token effort I don't think they're naive enough to think that near-capacity attendance will continue. And, in fact, it hasn't this season. They're only averaging 95.4% of capacity so far. They've only been over 3 million for two seasons and will be again this year only because of the increased capacity. They didn't even break 2.7 in 2002. There isn't much of a reason to believe that attendance won't suffer if this keeps up. If that happens, the Cubs will be losing a significant amount of potential revenue. i hope they do So do I. Not sure we'll see much decrease this year though. People already have their trips planned.
