  1. Dusty's postgame said it all. He's a beaten man. There are no answers forthcoming, no moves that will be made. It's suckfest royale, and there's no end in sight.

    Fire Dusty

I am suprised Len and Bob are blaming everything and everyone but the Cubs players and managers for this slide. They leave out the fact that Dusty's batting order is horrible and that the team is playing very poor fundamental baseball. At some point they have to stop spouting the company line and give some objective analysis. Everyone at home can see how bad the Cubs are and it is insulting to hear them blame it on "good fortune" or bad luck. After what happened to Stone I can't say I blame them.
  3. He'll probably trade the wrong guys....probably start with Walker. Oh no. Can't start trading players. Have to extend Baker too. Anything else would be admitting mistakes have been made.
  4. Howry's junk now. What the hell happened to this guy?
  5. OK. I just got done writhing on the floor in convulsions at the realization of how terrible this team is. I'm much better now, thanks.
  6. Or at least Murray or Sucliffe. They should let Len and Bob start drinking after the Cubs fall behind by 5 runs. Len & Bob are starting to realize Harry Caray was a wise man. A wise man, indeed 8)
  7. Len's like, "please don't leave yet Eddie. please don't leave us!!"
  8. He's heating up, let's give him an extension!
  9. He was being extraordinarily gracious :) I'm sure he wanted to say "I thought Seattle was bad!!"
  10. The Iowa Cubs might give us a better chance to win right now.
  11. First time in 120 years we've been swept in a season series I believe. If that doesn't earn you a pink slip in the midst of a massive losing streak, I don't know what does.
  12. I think you're wrong, but I'd love to see it. Perhaps, but I have staked out the position, and I don't want to welch. :) I'm with ya. Not because it's true, but because I'm desperate for any ray of hope at this point.
  13. Fire Baker. 8) I wish it was that easy. They are already talking extension! Man, only the Cubs are this futile. I'm so glad the boo birds are out today. Think on the bright side. Hendry is looking for a winning streak so he can extend Baker. But there's not going to be one, so he can't. Hopefully MacPhail will finally realize what a mistake it was to extend Hendry, and buy him out. Throw both of these guys out, they've both done a poor job. Eating salary for the Tribune is like eating salad for you & I. Sure, you'd rather have steak but the veggies aren't all that bad and they might improve your health later on
  14. Our offense is so bad this will go down as another shaky Hill performance. In reality, good teams win games with outings like this all the time.
  15. The league has just made an adjustment to Cedeno.
  16. I guess you can't dislike when a player is playing bad and celebrate when he is doing well? To me that's what being a fan is all about. Jock was SUCKING. So fans booed. Now he's not, so they aren't. The reality of major professional sports...
  17. And this is my point. Although, as UM pointed out, there was a time when Dusty used to get mad. I remember a certain game against the Cardinals in '03, for example, when he & LaRussa went at it pretty good. I've got to wonder what happened. Now he just rolls his eyes and chews his toothpick, no matter what happens.
  18. Ahh, ye of the instant gratification generation. Maybe it will inspire them tomorrow.. Maybe not. With Dusty, we'll never even know what would happen. Maybe Dusty not raving like a lunatic will inspire the Cubs tomorrow. Maybe my crap will be green and smell like rainbow sherbet. And maybe we should look at where Dusty's act has gotten the Cubs, versus Ozzie's & the White Sox...
  19. The Cubs would have to eat his contract right? Unfortunately, the Cubs are at the point where if they want to right this ship they're going to have to eat a few contracts.
  20. Now he's got an awful ballclub and an empty minor league system. He's blown his wad. No more cards to play and nothing to show for it. Hendry's dogmeat. And we're stuck with this turkey for years more. What a mess.
  21. I believe Nomar had the whole "not all that excited about playing" problem before he came to the Cubs. He wasn't too happy in 2004 with Boston and that's the main reason they traded him. And I'm sure Nomar was really trying to completely tear his groin also. That was all part of his master plan to get away from Dusty. It was one of the most freakish serious injuries I've ever seen. At least consider the possibility that lack of preparation before the game contributed to that one. At least *consider* it. Wouldn't that be his own fault though not Baker's? Isn't it a player's job to get himself ready to play for the game. Taking batting/fielding practice is one thing, but shouldn't an adult, and somebody who has been in the league for a number of years know how to get himself ready to play. I don't think any of what happened to Nomar is Baker's fault. Yeah, it would be his own fault. I'd like a climate of winning on the North Side though, and we have a climate of losing-----for 97 years. I look to ownership/GM/Manager to provide a climate of winning first, then the players follow suit. Does anyone seriously doubt that if Nomar resigned he would have either proceeded directly to the DL or gone into a Pierre-esque slump? Of course he would have.
