  1. You are right, of course. I think it's overblown that Cuban is somehow 'bad' for the NBA though. He's been an incredible boon for Dallas, and has increased the level of interest immensely. Sure David Stern doesn't like him. Notice he tolerates him though -- because Cuban's raking in dollars and ratings with that Mavs team. That's part of the politics, too.
  2. I think this is the year, but who knows. At any rate the Mavs turnaround has been incredible.
  3. Cuban is exactly what this franchise needs to finally shed the loser reputation that permeates everything we try to accomplish.
  4. this is about new york still hating ronny. freaking trash.
  5. I think that's the overriding factor here. Santo has re-invented his image here in Chicago. He's a completely different figure than he was in his playing days, when he was known as a competitor that wouldn't hesitate to get under your skin. Chicago may view him as the personification of the 'lovable loser', but the rest of the country -- particularly New York -- still thinks of him as a jerk who is getting what he deserved all along.
  6. From what I saw last year, Murton has real difficulty judging some balls in the air -- especially when he gets near the wall. His arm is horrid. Soriano I have no idea about (which is an uncomfortable feeling), and Jones is pretty blah defensively. If we can just be average out there it will be all that can be expected, IMO.
  7. .....and no sooner did I say we're playing well without Noc, they start to SUCK and show why we need him in there.
  8. The nation ain't buying it. Prior will have to start 25+ games this year before people start believing again. There's no doubt about it but you can't argue that Prior starting a ST game isn't news. Good news. Good news, yes. Meaningful in the grand scheme of things? Not in and of itself.
  9. While I agree that's what teams like Pitt & KC must do to succeed, I think the larger question is whether teams should be relegated to this sort of "shoot the moon" philosophy while the Yanks and BoSox just win every year due to their spending. Of course, nothing can account for spending tons of money badly, which is what the Cubs do.
  10. Isn't that already the case? Aren't teams like the D-Rays, Royals, Pirates just basically farming up players for other teams to eventually pluck off their rosters?
  11. When we see Prior pitching a regular season game and doing well, then he's back.
  12. I know, but what is damning for Skiles is when players who were struggling here go to other cities and play much better. Skiles is a particular style of coach. He's also a shooter from way back. It's not a suprise then that his teams are basically reliant on the shooter and can't develop a big man. The only question in my mind is, can we win a title with Skiles? I don't think so.
  13. I can hear the sound of Nats season tickets being canceled all the way back here in Wisconsin.
  14. I don't think Blanco can be considered insurance against losing Barrett. Blanco is a defensive alternative, nothing more -- he's there to give the primary catcher a game off every once in awhile. Barrett's a top catcher on the offensive side -- something which is rather rare and would command very good dollars on the open market, IMO.
  15. Wow, BP really thinks were going to score that many runs? I wouldn't have guessed that.
  16. Neither Brady nor Russell are sure things, IMO.
  17. if PJ hadn't score 19 points today, this would have been a double digit loss. You're assuming someone else with those minutes would not have been able to do that. Anyway he was in there on that play to block out, and he just flat out didn't.
  18. PJ wasn't in position to block out, though. He's pretty worthless. We got the only 7' in the league who doesn't want to play physical, apparently. Songalia was 10X better than that. I'm glad we played Det tough in their building, but that's a bad loss. The game was ours, easily.
  19. Actually, I think he does have to convince the Rangers. I can't totally tell from the article, but I believe Sammy was referring to whether he has to convince anyone he never used steroids.
  20. My guess is, with Noc sitting on the bench and the Bulls registering their most important wins of the year without him, his value is dropping a little. I don't know how it will shake out. Seems to me that a healthy Noc means less minutes for a guy like Griff. I think that's a good thing, so I'd like to see Noc healthy ASAP.
  21. Yeah I'll be there for the Saturday game. One thing about baseball in Milwaukee in April --- it won't be cold at the game, no matter what.
  22. Oh really? So it took about 1 week of ST for the whole "Prior is our 5th starter" thing to be thrown to the 4 winds ;)
  23. I'm not convinced of anything at this point. Way too early to tell what Lou will really do. Even his past history would seem to be a useless predictor since he claims to be a changed man now.
  24. Deng has way more upside. Simmons just wants Chicago to fail, and he didn't get what he wanted. Ignore him.
  25. But he's also 2-2 with a double and a run scored. Last year he went .179/.210/.256. Don't get all excited. That'll be good enough to hit 8th, ahead of Izzy.
