  1. The Chargers and rawaction are now on the clock. I PMd him. Next 3 picks: 50. Bears (Raisin, etc) 51. Eagles (Truffle) 52. Titans (dew, PCP) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  2. Haha, yeah if we allowed trades I definitely think this is a perfect spot for the Pats to trade down to the third round (or just trade the pick altogether) and pile up a couple picks in next year's draft. Since we're not trading, though, I think I'd agree with davell and go with Reyes.
  3. Next 3 picks: 49. Chargers (rawaction) 50. Bears (Raisin, etc) 51. Eagles (Truffle) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  4. Eventually, I don't think there's any doubt he will. He might have to spend a year or two in a lesser conference repairing his image, but he wins quickly wherever he goes and a team (or multiple teams) will be satisfied with that.
  5. seems like an overreaction. wasn't having sex with that horsefaced chick punishment enough? Really does seem like an overreaction. I was thinking he'd get some sort of in-house punishment, maybe suspend him for the first couple of games or something. Didn't think they'd go so far as to fire him.
  6. I could definitely see Belichick going value here and taking either David Wilson or Lamar Miller. I could also see them going with either guy you mentioned, or even a George Iloka or Markelle Martin. A lot of possibilities.
  7. This is getting silly - the previous 3 picks have all been guys I was targeting for the Titans. Luckily my top couple haven't gone off the board yet.....
  8. Next 3 picks: 48. Patriots (Splinter) 49. Chargers (rawaction) 50. Bears (Raisin, etc) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  9. Yeah, Votto's deal is closer to the Pujols type contract - easy to argue it's too much, easy to argue it's deserved and worth it. I'm not sure the Phillips contract is defensible, even if the Reds were a large market team.
  10. What if that "somebody better" isn't on the market, or is ridiculously overpriced? And why give up prospects for a guy then when you can potentially negate that need now without giving up prospects?
  11. Next 3 picks: 47. Jets (PTW) 48. Patriots (Splinter) 49. Chargers (rawaction) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  12. Next 3 picks: 46. Eagles (Truffle) 47. Jets (PTW) 48. Patriots (Splinter) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  13. Next 3 picks: 44. Chiefs (Tiger) 45. Cowboys (vance, imb) 46. Eagles (Truffle) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  14. That's my biggest concern - that we do everything right up to the point that we need that elite FA, and he's not there. And that leaves us with overpaying for the best FA available or not quite being good enough for another season (or more).
  15. I haven't heard from Andy and he's not checked the PM I sent him yesterday, so since both of us agree Curry's a good pick we'll go with that.
  16. Curry works for me. The Bills and imb! are now on the clock. I PMd him. Next 3 picks: 42. Dolphins (ManCrushOnNomar) 43. Seahawks (sulley) 44. Chiefs (Tiger) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
  17. My feelings on Cespedes have nothing to do with his performance to this point this season.
  18. Exactly, we can afford to make these kinds of investments when the need is there. And the need is certainly there.
  19. I'm expecting our starting pitching will keep us in a lot of games this year. The offense and bullpen are much bigger questions, though I think they'll get the pen figured out by the end of the year. Yeah, I feel pretty good about the starting pitching this year as well. Just hoping Volstad can go from a decent part of the bottom of a rotation to something better. Seeing him pitch really well today would be an encouraging sign toward that.
  20. I think for some Cubs fans, this scenario is already playing out as they've argued against signing Pujols/Darvish/Cespedes because we wouldn't win this year with them. I trust Theo/Jed will not fall into that mentality, though.
  21. I do think there's a thought process going on with Cub fans at the moment, as others have noted, that is against giving out big contracts simply because they're big contracts and without regard to how good the player is/can be. I've seen a lot of people blame the struggles under Hendry to giving out big contracts and, thus, to propose giving a "big" contract to Darvish or Cespedes is just wanting to relive the Hendry days. That's based on the faulty assumption that Hendry's failure was because of giving out bad big contracts (the only one that falls under that description is Soriano's). As a side note, I'm not talking about everybody who opposed signing Pujols, Cespedes, or Darvish. It's simply something I've noticed a number of people referencing when opposing a Darvish/Cespedes contract.
  22. I have seen a number of people on here say the Cespedes and Darvish contracts are pretty bad and their teams will be regretting them (especially Cespedes). Well that's silly. The Cespedes contract is only even potentially onerous to a team like the A's, and the only thing exorbitant about Darvish was the posting fee. Yeah, I'd be pretty happy if we got Darvish on the posting fee/contract combo the Rangers did - it's doubtlessly a risk, but one very worth taking. The Cespedes contract has a very real chance to be a major bargain and wouldn't be an albatross even if he completely busts. I can at least understand (even though I disagree with) the complaints about Pujols' contract, I have no idea where the criticisms of the Darvish/Cespedes deals are coming from.
  23. I went to last night's Smokies/Lookouts game. Beeler looked pretty good even though he got hit a bit. He did seem to be able to keep the Lookouts hitters off balance enough that he didn't get hit really hard, but he did labor at points, letting guys get on base. AT&T Park didn't have any radar readings, so I have no idea what speeds he was throwing. I don't know that Ridling and Bour will be any more than power bench bats, but both are big, impressive looking guys. Nate Samson isn't quite the slick fielder I expected to see given his less than impressive bat. He didn't really do anything bad with the glove, but he had a few opportunities to impress and didn't. Ha is really good in center, though. Made a few plays I thought for sure were over his head.
  24. After the great outing by Shark today, I'm really hoping Volstad can follow it up with a good outing. Would be really encouraging if both of them can finally hit their stride.
  25. Andy and the Panthers are on the clock. I PMd him. Next 3 picks: 41. Bills (imb!) 42. Dolphins (ManCrushOnNomar) 43. Seahawks (sulley) Again, if anybody isn't sure they'll be available to make the pick, shoot me a PM with your top 4 choices.
