If a trade isn't made, does that necessarily mean Hendry didn't try? I realize he made the statements that he's happy with the current roster, but never indicated he had no desire to improve the team. In fact, he said if the opportunity arose to improve the team, he'd do it. To me, that sounds as if he's at least trying to make the current roster better. The problem is, though, that all these statements I've seen from Hendry are cliches. Of course a general manager is going to say he wants to improve the team, just like any GM is going to say he's happy with the current situation if a move isn't made. They're all pretty much worthless in the general discussion, especially given the fact that people such as Bruce have said he's been making a concerted effort to get a trade done. That gives me the idea he feels there is some need to improve things. I'll be just as disappointed as anybody if nothing's done, but given the potential trade rumors I've heard (Dye for Marmol, Pie for Laird) if that's what other GMs are demanding, it hurts us more than helps to get a deal done. Apparently, from everything I've heard, the sellers are simply asking for more than Hendry is willing to pay for mostly mediocre upgrades. The only significant upgrades out there, Griffey and Dunn, are either very possibly not available (Griffey) or far too pricey (Dunn). Therefore, I'll be disappointed if a trade isn't made, but won't blame Hendry for this particular occurence. In fact, it may be to his credit that he won't sell the farm for slight upgrades.
