  1. Cornelius Ingram? That'd be a boon for Florida. Yep. I doubt he'd be very effective this weekend. Aaron Hernandez has actually done quite well in his own right. In 2007 the Gators loved using two tight end sets in the spread, they simply don't have the depth at tight end to do that this season. If a defensive coordinator wanted to plan for that, they need to watch game film from 2007 as well. However, by January 8th, if the Gators get there, he could be the Ingram of old. He's a senior right? I don't want to see UT try to deal with him next year.

  3. Tennessee didn't reject Clausen, Jimmy rejected us for ND. Casey and Rick were both good, though. Rick Clausen was not good. Eh, he was ok. When he filled in for Ainge and Schaeffer in the 04 season he played pretty well, but then he sucked in 05 (as did the rest of the offense). He wasn't anything special, but he was a pretty smart QB.
  4. I'm actually 6'1", good guess! Awesome! I'm the man!
  5. Oh yes, Tebow as a full back is a large part of why Florida beat Tennessee in 06. I know the system well. And I didn't know Brantley was that fast, interesting.
  6. Tennessee didn't reject Clausen, Jimmy rejected us for ND. Casey and Rick were both good, though. I really don't know about Newton. He's suspended indefinitely. Brantley beat out Newton for the #2 job. The reason that Brantley was the #3 last year was because Newton, like Tebow before him, enrolled early. Brantley did not and the Meyer/Mullen offense is probably the most complex in the country so he redshirted simply because they would not get him up to speed quickly enough. He really impressed Meyer in the Spring. He closed the gap in the spring and overtook him in the early fall workouts and hasn't looked back since. Both Newton and Brantley were top 50 guys on some recruiting boards. How good will Bradley be as a pocket passer in a spread option system? I know it worked in 2006, but 2 QB systems scare me.
  7. How tall is Burton? I'd figure he'd be at least 6'1" or 6'2" if he was a running back. And I do love the "once in a lifetime" players. I think Reggie Bush was referred to that during the draft too. Oops.
  8. I was actually expecting Newton to be the full-time starter next year. Your recent talk of Brantley caught me a bit by surprise. What are the chances Newton is in jail next season and isn't on the team? I heard the original report that he swiped the laptop and the whole saga that followed, but haven't heard anything since.
  9. I like Mark Schlereth pretty well. I actually love Mark Schlereth...but he's not even on that much anymore. I think he's like a full time character on that Soap Opera that they always talk about on Mike and Mike The only time I see him is off and on with Mike and Mike or on NFL Live occassionally. I do think he's a regular on the soap, though I can't confirm it since I don't watch them.
  10. I definitely like Snead quite a bit. I agree he and Mallet are almost definitely going to be the top two QBs next year (assuming Stafford leaves, which he obviously should). Is Brantley more of a pocket passer? I was thinking he was, but can't remember for sure. I'm still hoping Tajh Boyd starts strong at Tennessee or that Crompton remembers he was a great QB coming out of high school.

  12. And with this post, almost every one of you can understand why I do not root for the conference. I sincerely hope that Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship, and that they do not make the MNC game. It is my hope that Florida then gets drilled in the Sugar Bowl by their opponent, and that Texas gets slaughtered by Oklahoma (just because Meph pimps the Longhorns as well). And for those of you who complain about the SEC and their fans, I understand why... I really do. It's fans like this. And believe me, this is TYPICAL of most Florida and Alabama fans I know. They talk an awful lot for people who don't contribute to anything that affects the game itself. I do hope Team Jorts will beat the Criminal Tide, and then get left out of the MNC game. It doesn't matter, though, because wins and losses are irrelevant, remember? My point is that Tennessee's defense, while talented, is no more talented than Georgia's, LSUs or Florida State's and they had no prayer stopping the Gators offense. Much as I hate to admit it, Florida has an incredibly talented and athletic offense (no big newsflash or anything, but it helps greatly to be the only legit team in the state of Florida). Thus, very few teams have much of a chance of stopping Florida's offense right now - though that could change if Tebow and Harvin leave after the year. I will say, though, that Tennessee's defense has been better than UGA, LSU or FSU's defense this year. I think our defense right now is more athletic, though only by a little. If Kiffin can pull in guys like Eric Gordon, I think we'll be able to slow Florida's offense next year. Though it won't be enough to win.
  13. Much as I hate Florida, they should make it if they win Saturday. Another reason why the BCS is an utterly laughable system. The BCS is really a problem now because it depends far, far too much on human polls and limits computer polls from being able to effectively determine how good teams are. and some of the computer polls are terrible Billingsley's method is terrible, and Sagarin can't use his accurate model because it involves point differential. I still think they should institute a point differential, but put a cap on it or something. I can fully understand the attempt to avoid promoting running up the score, but the amount Florida is beating teams by should count for something. I can't believe I've said something good about Florida in two posts now.

  15. He took a couple of cracks at Al Davis too (without naming him of course). Hopefully he can coach as well as he gives a press conference.
  16. And a sensationalist hack. That settles it, I'm calling him SHR from now on. Good man. It's well deserved.
  17. And your post was going so well. That's what I get for playing for style points, I guess. Who cares if it hurt me in the human polls, though. The computers loved me. SSR is a hater. And a sensationalist hack.

Nothing like having Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory talk trash to you about something he has no control over, huh? I do hope Team Jorts will beat the Criminal Tide, and then get left out of the MNC game. It doesn't matter, though, because wins and losses are irrelevant, remember? I just can't bring myself to root for Florida. But I can't root for Bama either.
  19. Probably one of the best ever. Don't worry, I'll be sure to really appreciate him.
  20. If we had a little bit of offense this year and our QB could hand the ball off, it wouldn't have been an embarassment this year. That said, if Tebow and Harvin are back next year you may be right. And I don't think Spurrier's that livid over this, but thought it was funny that he was pitching a fit already. If you had a little bit of offense this year and your QB could hand the ball off, it would have been a bigger embarrassment this year. Florida scored effectively against you guys. They didn't rack up gobs of points because the game was short. I think they only got 7 possessions when a typical Oklahoma game has 13 or 14 possessions. Also, you played the Gators before they knew what they had in Demps and Rainey. The offense is in another gear with those two in the mix. In fact, Demps didn't even play on offense in that game. If Tennessee played the Gators in November you and I both know it would have probably wound up 55-3 or something worse. Not to be a dick but you dont have to be dick about this, show some respect. Its not like UT is Vanderbilt, they bring in some very good players and have talented players on the current roster. I for one wouldnt slight Lane or Monte Kiffin. It will be interesting to see how a consumate NFL defensive coordinator handles a classic college offense like Florida's. Hopefully Monte will come to UT, it's about the only way we won't downgrade at defensive coordinator. By the way, Chris Mortensen reported there's a "very strong" chance Monte will be here next year. I suspect Monte just doesn't want to confirm it during the season.

I have little doubt Florida will win next year, but I have some doubts whether it'll be an embarassment. If Tebow and Harvin return, it well may be.

  23. I don't know if this is the right thread or not, but it's the only updated college football thread so here we go. Lane Kiffin is definitely growing on me. Not only did he give a slight amount of crap to Urban Meyer during his press conference, he also pissed off Steve Spurrier.
  24. I despise Florida with a passion. But I also utterly despise Bama too. I'm torn on who I want to win this one. Florida will win, though. Not much doubt there. Crocs 31 Bama 14
  25. That's a great thing to be able to do something like that. This is a great hire, but the problem wasn't defense with Tennessee, it was the offense. Hey dew, any idea who is likely as OC? No idea right now. I've heard (primarily from Hosak) that there's interest in Trooper Taylor, but otherwise not much. I suspect Lane Kiffin will likely call the plays himself, but again that's pure speculation. To be honest, Kiffin is going to struggle calling offensive plays when he doesn't have Reggie Bush, LenDale White, Mike Williams or a Steve Smith as his offensive targets. Which means dew, and I think you might agree is that keeping talented prospects like Marlon Brown, Eric Gordon (who really likes Alabama, btw) and Marsalis Teague (among others) in state. I really hope for UT sake those three young men stay in Tennessee, and make the Vols a much more talented and better team in 2009. Gordon and Berry in the secondary would be muy bueno. I'm a bit concerned about Kiffin's playcalling here as well, but it can't result in much worse of an offense than we had this year. We have talent on this team, it just didn't perform this year (offensively, that is). And I definitely hope that Kiffin, who is touted as a great recruiter, will be able to bring in at least some of the guys you listed. Gordon, Berry, Morley, Vinson. =P~
