  1. PSU will fare far better against USC than OSU did against the Trojans, in my opinion. Penn State matches up better, but still not extremely well against USC. I think it'll be pretty close (no more than 7-10) most of the game and USC might pull away late. I'm pretty confident USC will win, though.
  2. Rich Ellerson has departed from Cal Poly SLO to take the job at Army.
  3. i would probably have a heart attack if he were able to achieve an ops over 1.000 against lefties this season. it was only 139 pa's. it would be maybe the 15th most shocking thing to happen next year. I knew it wasn't in many ABs, but that's the beauty of a platoon - you can take advantage of the low #s of PAs. I'm not sure Sammy would repeat the 1.024 OPS again, but I think he could give us decently over .900 against lefties. I'd take that for a cheap, one-year deal.
  4. I'd take his 1.024 OPS against lefties. I'd be all in favor of Sammy as a cheap alternative to Milton Bradley. An outfield of Soriano, Pie/Reed, Kosuke/Sammy would be decently productive, I'd think. Sadly, there's now way it'd happen, though.
  5. hawai'i has a God-awful secondary. i think that most high school teams could throw for at least 200 on them. No one seemed to be concerned with this when they picked against ND and made cracks that they'd lose by 30 anyway. i picked nd because, even though they're not very good, they still had boatloads more athletic talent than this hawai'i team. last year it would have been different but this year's hawai'i is pretty lousy. I thought Hawai'i playing at home, trying to amend last year's beatdown and with ND's pitiful play of late (losing to Syracuse, for instance) would overcome the huge talent advantage the Irish had over the Warriors. Plus, Hawai'i's near win over Cincy in their final regular season game influenced me a bit (though it shouldn't have, I'm sure). But, considering I gave 1 point confidence to the game, I wasn't that sure of myself on it.
  6. Well, this will be my fourth wrong pick. Luckily I only put a point on it.
  7. That's definitely a weird set of tiebreakers.
  8. Thanks for the kind words on CJ. I didn't like the pick when the Titans made it, though it wasn't because I didn't like him, it was just because I thought a receiver would fit us better. In the end, though, he's better than I thought he would be - and our receivers still suck. :-)) I don't think there'll be much to the towel stomping. I might've preferred that he not do it (and Bulluck as well), but Jeff Fisher is right in that I doubt the Steelers can play much harder or more determined than they did Sunday - especially after a tough playoff game and with KVB and Haynesworth back.
  9. If by "Another" you mean... first 4td performance of his career you would be right. Heh, how did I know you would be the one to correct me? I could have sworn he had a 4 TD performance earlier this year but after further inspection he just had 6 games of 3 touchdowns. Either way, guess that puts a fork in the argument of best QB this year. Yep, the answer is Kerry Collins.
  10. It's been confirmed that Vince Young will play Sunday, so it should be interesting to see how he does. And watching part 2 of Vince v Jim Sorgi should be fun as well. Otherwise, this game is generally meaningless. Just hope nobody gets hurt.
  11. The Texans are not a bad football team. Had the hurricane not happened and thrown them completely off their routine, I think they'd have another win or two and be just on the outside of the playoff race. They're pretty decent.
  12. Hey I wasn't ripping on you. I was just explaining why it this was the case. Sorry if it came off the wrong way. No problem, I didn't take it that way. I was mostly joking, but the obviousness of what I was missing (the different records) made me feel dumb. It's all good. :D
  13. The Broncos collapse is Mets-like in its hilarity. The only way it could be topped is if the Chargers lose to them in some equally hilarious fashion next week. I wonder what game is going to be flexed to Sunday night. According to ESPN it's the Denver-San Diego game. Miami vs the Jets would be much better. I think the reason they went away from that matchup is that the Jets could very well be eliminated before they even took the field if they played that as the Sunday Night game. The Denver-SD game is a guaranteed both-teams-win-and-they're-in game. I thought the Jets were in a win and in situation with Miami. The winner takes the division and the loser has to hope New England loses to grab the wild card. That's what I thought, at least. they need to beat Miami AND have New England lose Ah, ok. Had that mixed up apparently. Well think about it. Miami is 10-5, New England is 10-5, and the Jets are 9-6. If the Jets and NE win, NE is 11-5 and the Jets are 10-6. Cut me some slack, I haven't checked the standings since last week. Plus it's Monday morning and I'm stuck at work.

  17. Definitely the Falcons. Not only did I think they were the worse team, but I also had no faith in Matt Ryan being anything more than an average QB in the NFL.
  18. I saw it too. I knew he was done (at least for the game) instantly. Images of Tyrone Prothro come to mind having seen that. Kind of hard to believe how easily that seemed to happen. Hopefully he won't suffer the same fate Prothro did. Yeah, Prothro was a pretty definite NFL player before that happened to him. Hopefully this will end up better.
  19. Let me look at the tiebreaks. You must have the edge on us for some reason. Conference record. That's what it is. If we ended up tied, we'd be 7-5 in conference while you'd be 8-4 (we swept the AFC West, you lost to Denver). So we have to beat New Orleans or you have to miraculously lose to STL. If we lose and you win, you win the division and we're going to Arizona in round 1. On a totally unrelated note, I'm borderline suicidal. I still think the Panthers would win at the Cardinals, but in Arizona they can be pretty tough. We beat Arizona this year at home and last year on the road, but we should've lost both games. We can take them, and then the next week would be @NYG, which we probably will have to do to make it to Tampa anyway. I really want that bye, though. We haven't had one since 1996, and it'd be nice to have a stress-free round 1 weekend. Yes, no stress in week one is extremely nice.
  20. Drats, foiled again.
  21. I do. That's six (or so) more confidence points for me.

  23. Deion is "riding Tennessee like a horse." I find it awesome that the two biggest media supporters of the Titans are Deion Sanders and Mike Ditka.
  24. A win and a Dallas loss. The Bears could tie them with two wins, but Tampa holds the tiebreaker there.
