  1. that's like the penn state classes recently. people kiss the asses of larry johnson sr., tom bradley and mike mcqueary for their recruiting efforts but you'd think that a program like penn state wouldn't be getting beaten in recruiting by ohio state and michigan year after year. Penn State recruits almost entirely out of PA, NJ and MD. It's nice to have a lock on those states, but you're not usually seeing a ton of 5-star recruits out of those areas. I'm hoping that whoever the next coach at PSU is breaks out of the antiquated "territorial" recruiting strategies and goes hard after a few guys from Florida or California Territorial recruiting strategies can work exceptionally well if you can control the territory. Georgia and Florida, for instance, don't travel that much nationally, but the Bulldogs pretty much control Georgia and the Gators pretty much have Florida secure. Penn State's problem with that, I'd say, is that Wannstedt is a good recruiter and can pull some Pennsylvania recruits away and the neighboring strong recruiting states (Michigan, Ohio) are controlled by major programs. So, the territorial strategy can work and work well - but it may not be the best idea for Penn State. also, Florida produces better players than Maryland. they just do No doubt, and the reason why Florida is successful with the regional recruiting.
  2. Yeah, I like the jabs at Florida, but at some point he needs to stop. It's fun to hear, but ultimately, I think it could hurt us.
  3. Same with me. I'll have access to the internet and NSBB most of the time 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. each weekday as well.
  4. Janzen Jackson signed with Tennessee this morning. That make a good class even better - now we need Kiffin to pull off David Oku and Orson Charles.

  6. What does Charles project as? I think I've heard tight end, but he could be a wide receiver too, I think. Tight End, in the Dallas Clark/Jason Witten mold. With Brandon Warren being moved to WR, we could use a TE in this class. Thanks. I had heard Warren was going to move to WR, but I'm not sure I like it. He's a great mismatch there and we don't exactly have depth at TE (not the biggest fan of Luke Stocker, even though I like Aaron Douglas). I like our depth at WR - especially after adding Richardson and Rogers. WR depth is very nice, but I like Green far more than Rogers. UT was one of 2 schools to sign two out of Rivals Top 20 WR's. (Green and Richardson) Orgeron also made it sound like Teague will get a look on that side of the ball. If we sign Janzen, I don't see why they wouldn't try Teague on offense first. This DB class is excellent, if Janzen indeed signs here. Janzen, Myles, and Edwards are an excellent trio, and Oliver is nice depth. Good point on Green, it was late and I just forgot about him. I definitely prefer him to Rogers. That's why I don't understand moving Warren to wide receiver. TE depth is a major issue, WR depth is a strength, so why move your best tight end to wide receiver? Especially if they go through with moving Douglas to tackle.
  7. I'll probably start the "clock" so to speak sometime in the morning. And it'll last as long as we can make it last. Each war room will have a certain amount of time (24 hours seems roughly to be a good guideline) to make their pick and then the next war room will have that amount, etc, etc. We'll do as many rounds as we can from Feb. 24(or so) to the day of/before the draft. I'd love to see us get through 3-4 rounds in that time period.
  8. Where are you moving the thread? Just bumping it to the top since it was buried behind three pages of threads.

  10. I'm happy to see David Cutcliffe pulled in a top 50 class with two 4-star recruits and 13 3-stars. That's after 66th last year (0 4 stars and 7 3 stars) and 78th in 2007 (0 4 stars and 4 3 stars) for Duke.
  11. Less than two weeks until the combine starts, so I figured I'd bump this thread in case anyone is interested and hasn't seen it yet. We'll start pretty promptly after the combine ends (should be right around Feb. 24).
  12. The Raiders have now introduced Tom Cable as their new head coach. And the Cowboys and Dan Reeves are struggling to come to terms on a consulting job. As a result, Reeves will not be joining Dallas.
  13. .277 BA .345 OBP .423 SLG .768 OPS at Sacramento with 1 HR and 13 RBIs .298 BA .397 OBP .382 SLG .779 OPS at Iowa with 1 HR and 15 RBIs
  14. He was like 17 guys deep on their depth chart I knew they were pretty deep in the outfield, but not that deep. Oh well, he should get a shot with the Rockies.
  15. What does Charles project as? I think I've heard tight end, but he could be a wide receiver too, I think.
  16. Yea, he said that during his press conference at 5:30. I think Oku could be considered a "surprise" at this point since he's not signed and is actually reportedly leaning toward Auburn. I'd love Oku and Jackson to round out this class. Even though we lost Brown, that would still be a great class. Janzen Jackson will sing with UT at 10 am EST tomorrow, according to Brent Hubbs. Another well connected source saying that Oku will sign with UT as well, and that Orson Charles is still a pretty good possibility. Jackson, Oku, and Charles vaults Tennessee easily into the Top 20, if not the Top 15. Will Jackson sign with us as well? That's awesome news, by the way. I thought we were already top 20 in rivals and maybe as high as 15. All three of those guys could push us near the top 10, which would be incredible, given the coaching change. If this is true, this is a fantastic class.
  17. I'm not creeped out by the anime. I'm creeped out by ski. OK, this is understandable. :-)) Ski does hate cheerleaders, after all . . .
  18. What an ending to the Tennessee/Arkansas game! The Vols were up 2 with about 38 seconds to go, Arkansas hit a layup to tie it with 11 seconds left and then Bobby Maze took a very questionable shot that rolled in and the Razorbacks missed two shots in the paint to end it. Big win for Tennessee as it, coupled with the blowout of Florida, should be a good confidence booster.
  19. I'm a little surprised Beane didn't hang onto Murton. He's not idea for a large market club, but I'd think he'd be extremely valuable to a small market club like Oakland. Not sure how long his contract lasts, but he'll be a nice, cheap option for Colorado.

  21. Aw come on. Maybe one day you'll see the light. As long as that light isn't highway construction barrell orange. Nah, that orange is closer to Auburn. We're the awesome orange fruit. "Can't spell citrus without UT" -Steve Spurrier Ouch, that burns. :-))

  24. I'm still wondering why Arkansas was so quick to get rid of him. I don't want to derail a fine recruiting thread, so I will not get into it like I want to. I am an LSU fan with alot of ties to Arkansas and I can promise you it was about a TON more than just wins and losses. He is sneaky and not a good man. I actually think Ole Miss and Nutt are a good fit, as long as he doesn't become his own worst enemy like he did at U of A. BTW, that 16th ranking is per Scouts. Enough said. Check Rivals. :) edit: My bad, they make it to 17! Still don't like him! Yea, we shouldn't make this a major debate, but my response to problems being "more than wins and losses" is to ask: Why in the world did you then go to Bobby Petrino who's much shadier than Nutt? Really different issues there. Petrino and Nutt are both guilty of using other organizations/universities to advance their own salaries and careers. But Nutt's transgressions were much more petty and low down. Throwing kids under the bus, leaking bad things about kids to media, calling former players "cancers on the team" right before the NFL draft, running off kids the media liked then justifying it by publicly trashing them on their way out the door. And then there's the whole texting situation which was much worse than national media reported. His former players are pretty much even on either side. They either love him or they openly call him a liar and a "used car salesman." I honestly think the guy has serious problems. Oh, and he will flat out lie to make himself look better. Other than that he's fine. ;) Sounds a lot like Bobby Petrino. Lied on national television, slipped out of a commitment in the middle of the night with no remorse, openly flirted with numerous other programs throughout his collegiate career while telling his players he was sticking around, and I'm sure much more from his Atlanta/Louisville days that I don't know about. I just don't understand going from one coach with terrible character flaws to another coach with terrible character flaws and calling it an upgrade in character. I agree with what you say about Petrino. However, Nutt absolutely could not come back to UofA. That bridge was burned equally by him and the fans. Not necessarily an upgrade in character, but ANYONE else who could win was what Arkie wanted IMO. Also, Petrino is raked over the coals constantly while Nutt gets a free pass as some great leader of young men. There is a serious double standard. No one in Arkansas is saying Petrino is a saint, they are just sick of all the Nutt love for such a shady character. Now I will go back and talk trash to all my LSU friends who still rail against Les Miles. As the SEC turns... I say we both agree that neither is as bad as Nick Saban and move on.
