  1. How much extra cash we'd have would depend on how much Edmonds cost us. He made $8 million last year and would obviously have made less this year. But how much less was he willing to go? Money may well be a reason he's unsigned right now. Also, what big bat in right field is available right now that we could have acquired had Edmonds not worked out?
  2. The thinking would be to look for a decent hitting SS and then move Theriot to second. It would allow us to widen what we're looking for and not be forced to only look at second basemen. Precisely, I was responding to the objection over Scutaro's defense. I'll take Theriot at second with Marco's production at SS of .284/.382/.414/.795 and a slightly above average OPS+ of 111 this year over whatever production the second base platoon has produced this year. Ah, I understand now.
  3. With the exception of last year (injury) he's pretty consistently slugged in the mid .400s. Not great, but decent enough for a second baseman. His OBP is very AVG dependant though.
  4. .795 OPS this year for Scutaro. Below .700 the past two seasons, though.

  6. He has a .692 OPS this year (.300 OBP). I'd rather keep the prospects and play Blanco at SS.
  7. I know there are some who question UZR, but here's what it has to say about Soriano in LF and at 2B. career UZR/150 at 2B: -10.2 career UZR/150 in LF: 6.7 Also consider that he hasn't played second base significantly since 2005.
  8. There's no question we have more than enough prospects to get Sanchez. The questions are whether they Pirates will ask for too much and whether or not we have the money to bring in Sanchez. Jusging by the Pirates recent deals over the past few years, when they move a player, theyre not looking to piledge the other teams farm system, they're looking to dump some salary or move a guy whose not in their futur plans and get what they feel is a fair return. The biggest question I have about a potential Sanchez deal is what their plans are for Sanchez. They seem to want to keep him around, which would lead me to believe they'll look for more than just salary-dump type prospects. But if he isn't in their future plans (which would make more sense), then he should come cheaper prospect-wise. That doesn't do anything for whether we can afford him monetarily, though.
  9. I know we have no one to replace him with at SS right now, but would he make a better 2B? Andres Blanco? No way do I want Blanco playing everyday. Just another hole in the lineup. Theriot will be at short the rest of the year no matter what. I was thinking more towards future years. Theriot would be much better defensively at second than at short. If there was a shortstop we could acquire, I'd be all for moving Theriot to second.

  11. Hoff is in the right role now. His OBP isn't good enough to warrant playing him everyday, but he's good as a power hitter off the bench. Reed Johnson has never been able to hit right handed pitchers and Fukudome has been much better recently. Reed's fine playing against lefties. I wouldn't be against more Jake Fox, though.
  12. I don't think so. I just forgot about him when I made that list off the top of my head.
  13. Am I the only person that thinks our farm has taken some big steps forward this year, and could actually be average by league standards next year? No, you are most definitely not. The article is right-for one reason or another, the drafts of 2003-2006 were really bad. That has left a void in the high minors right now which causes the bad rankings and lack of possible trades (not much MLB ready talent). 2007-2008 was much better (2009 doesn't really have any sample yet) which is going to flip the rankings around once again as they are getting to the high levels of the minors. The international signings have also helped and we haven't even felt the full impact of that yet. Rhee and Lee have been noticed while Ha and Jung haven't been yet because while high schoolers drafted high typically get a grace year in the prospect rankings before they start sliding international prospects especially from Asia have to prove themselves first since so little is known about them. This year many of our interesting prospects have taken big steps forward, especially at pitching and SS. A developing SS? You stop it right now. That's just crazy talk. A few of them, actually. Darwin Barney, Hak-Ju Lee, Starlin Castro
  14. As long as he's on the DL and isn't complaining, I think they can keep him rehabbing down there indefinitely.
  15. Am I the only person that thinks our farm has taken some big steps forward this year, and could actually be average by league standards next year? It's gotten much, much better with Wilken's recent drafts and some good international signings. The high level (AAA) still isn't stocked that well, but AA and A have some very nice players developing well right now.
  16. If you were hot dog and were starving, would you eat yourself? Do hot dogs get hungry?
  17. NONE at all. I get douche chills just thinking about it. He truly disgusts me more than any player since Lenny Harris. pat burrell has been way worse. He's also signed to a far lesser deal. Burrell's making more this season, but is signed to a 2-year deal instead of a 3-year deal.
  18. NONE at all. I get douche chills just thinking about it. He truly disgusts me more than any player since Lenny Harris. pat burrell has been way worse. Way worse? He's on par with Bradley and the Rays didn't trade a huge part of last year's team just to sign him. Bradley's got about 30-40 points of OPS on Burrell this year.
  19. Burrell's signed for one less year, but he's making more than Bradley this season. His line: .229/.338/.356/.694 Oliver Perez at 3 years/$36 million. Kerry Wood at 2 years/$20 million.
  20. I think that might be a hit if Lidge didn't kick it. Blast.
  21. They've been pretty similar this year. Bako: .214/.290/.250/.540 Hill: .204/.283/.296/.580 http://www.zmescience.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/black_hole_milkyway.jpg Not arguing that. :)
