  1. Other guys have too much ground to make up and play on teams that won't get as much media attention. I don't really see McCoy or Tebow having that defining game based on the schedule ahead. But even if they do, its going to be hard to argue that if one of them wins it their career didn't have a huge impact on winning it this season. I may be dense, but I just don't get it. Who are these "other guys" that have too much ground to make up and don't get media attention? I mean, if Clausen wins, it's not going to be based on his performance in 2007 as a true freshman on a terrible team a few months after elbow surgery. It's going to be b/c he led a decent/good team to an 11-win season (I can't see him winning it unless ND wins out) including several 4th quarter come-from-behind Ws and a big game against USC. Guys who have too much ground to make up or don't get enough media attention would probably include Eric Berry, A.J. Green, Jonathan Dwyer, Tony Pike and Jahvid Best.
  2. He's a lot of fun to watch. Peyton's all but a legend here in Tennessee, but I'm convinced if Berry did the unthinkable and returned for his senior year, he'd come close to garnering the love that Peyton gets. And just for a random stat, Berry has 13 career interceptions and 487 return yards off of those picks. That's 37 yards per INT return. He's also well on his way to 100 tackles this year.
  3. Oh yeah, I know why Woodson won it and why Berry won't be considered. I'm just saying if it was purely a "best player in the game" award, then Berry would at least be invited. But, Tennessee's 7-5 record (at best) coupled with Lane not playing him two ways (even though Woodson's two-way status was overrated in 97) will keep him from getting the invite. If Tennessee can pull off the upset of Bama (largely due to big plays by Berry) and then wins out, maybe he gets some consideration. And yes, Peyton should have won it that year.
  4. Suh *should* be a top 3 pick in the draft so I doubt the Titans will have a shot at him. But the 2010 draft should be very deep with DTs and guys like Gerald McCoy and Terrence Cody should be top 10 picks. Even with the season we may end up having, I realize Suh and Berry are likely pipe dreams. Suh really reminds me of Albert Haynesworth, though, with his great athletic ability mixed with great size. My early wish list in the draft right now probably revolves around Bradford, Suh, Berry and Gerald McCoy. Other options would include trading down to target a linebacker or really move down (like late first round) and think about Tebow – but not as a QB necessarily.
  5. I just don't see 5-8 teams managing to win less than 5 games. Maybe I'm being overly pessimistic on the Titans right now, but winning five games would be quite the accomplishment. A more realistic number right now would probably be 3.
  6. i think that's still highly unlikely, probably more 6-8 range We probably only have 3 solid wins on the schedule at this point (Buf, StL, Sea) and considering Seattle as any kind of a solid win is probably stretching it a bit. We'll likely be 0-6 entering the bye and we have Jacksonville and San Francisco immediately after it. 0-8 to start the year is a real possibility. This team as it's playing now isn't likely to win 5 games. Yeah, they aren't going to win at Seattle, but they should win against Jax at home. Yeah, didn't notice it was at Seattle on first look. That's probably a loss. Home against Arizona could be a win, but the secondary will have to really play in that one. And I don't know if we're playing physically enough to beat Jacksonville this year. Them blowing us out with ease makes me wonder if we can beat them.

  8. Maybe, just maybe a non QB can win the award this year? Eric Berry. :beg: Not happening. Tebow, Jimmy and McCoy are pretty much locked in as the top 3 right now in some order. I'm sure it won't. It's awful that he's not even really being considered, though. If Charles Woodson could win it over Peyton, Berry ought to have a chance.

  10. Last night was nothing new. The Titans are terrible. One more loss to the Patriots Sunday and then it's probably time to see what Vince can do the rest of the year. Let him play and see if he can be the QB next year. Either way I might be in favor of a youth movement this offseason. We'll have a top 5 pick it appears, and guys like Ndamakong Suh and Eric Berry would look really nice as Titans.
  11. I'm not taking shots at you dew, but I would concentrate on beating Memphis, Vandy and Kentucky, cause I seriously doubt Crompton will look good against Bama. I mean if Mallet and Snead looked horrible against Bama, I think Crompton might actually get killed in two weeks. Like I said, I'm not expecting much from this team going forward, but after how impressive Crompton looked Saturday, who knows? I'm still figuring we'll finish 7-5 with wins over SC, Memphis, Vandy and Kentucky to close out the year.
  12. I do have to say, with all this talk about QBs, Jonathan Crompton had a fantastic game today. Part of it was Georgia's terrible defense, I'm sure, but Crompton looked poised and very accurate all day. He made good decisions with almost every throw and showed why he was the #2 rated pro-style QB in his recruiting class. This was a huge win for Tennessee as it sets us up to only need to beat Memphis, Vandy and Kentucky to be bowl eligible. If Crompton continues to play like he did today, though, we could compete with Alabama and beat South Carolina. I'm not ready to really consider that, though. I'm really happy for Crompton, though. He was due a game like this at some point.
  13. He does. People cheat up on the line to stop the run and all the receivers get one on one coverage. In the LSU game he had a wide open receiver in the end zone and under threw him by five to ten yards for a pick. I wish bradford had his receivers, he would throw for 500 a game In all honesty I think Tennessee might be getting more receivers wide open this year than Florida is. Tebow's receivers aren't as good this year as they have been.
  14. Florida does get receivers alone in space very well, but not to the extent they'd have to for him to only be good on wide open throws and still complete nearly 65% of his throws.
  15. I've watched a large portion of Florida's games since Tebow has been there and I haven't seen evidence of this at all. The numbers don't back it up either. Are his receivers wide open 60+% of the time?
  16. Tim Tebow has thrown for more than 220 yards against SEC defenses in just one game the last two years. They lost that game too. Pure yardage isn't the best way to gauge his performance because Florida takes big leads so often he doesn't need to throw deep that often. He can make the deep throws, though he's not great at them. He is quite accurate and is a good decision maker, though.
  17. Just throwing it out there: Tebow career completion %: 64.7 Career TD:INT ratio: 73:12 He's adequate, but when you spend your career throwing passes to Percy Harvin, Louis Murphy, Andre Caldwell and Cornelius Ingram it's not hard to be that productive. I think a large part of his success is his ability to run the football and defenses in college have to respect that. I think he's a good enough athlete to make NFL defenses respect that and make his arm play better than it really is. I just don't think he'll survive long enough to be a starter. His best shot is at someone who likes the Wildcat, and may see's 10-15 snaps a game as a true wildcat type QB. You give him more snaps than that he'll probably be split in two and we'll be picking pieces of him up. Yeah, I'm not arguing that he'll translate into a great - or even possibly good - NFL quarterback. And it does help that he's had fantastic athletes to throw to throughout his career. But, you don't put up those kinds of numbers against mostly very good defenses if you're making a bunch of terrible throws and can't throw deep. He's been very productive through the air in college.
  18. Nov. 14 in Columbus.
  19. Just throwing it out there: Tebow career completion %: 64.7 Career TD:INT ratio: 73:12
  20. I have yet to see him take a snap from under center or any snap where there is not some form of play action. That is basically the wildcat offense It's also the spread option offense. Michigan runs it, as does Florida, Oregon and numerous other teams. The Wildcat is simply a variation of the spread option.
  21. Yeah, it's nothing new for a spread option QB to be uncomfortable under center.
  22. I have no idea why nobody challenged that non-catch call against Iowa. I thought he caught it.
  23. Angels win Game 2, 4-1. LAA now up in the series 2-0 with Scott Kazmir and Joe Saunders their next two scheduled starters.
  24. He really only had two bad months this year. His April wasn't particularly good (5.40 ERA, 1.433 WHIP) and his July was bad (6.17 ERA, 1.629 WHIP), but that was only 7 of his starts. His June WHIP was also a bit high, but otherwise, he was very good. His peripherals in April were pretty good as well, a nearly 2:1 K:BB and less than 1 hit per inning pitched. I tend to think it was at least partially bad luck in April.
  25. It "seems" like the right decision to get the easy points, though. I can easily see why people would be opposed to going for it, but the percentages are definitely in favor of going for it.
