  1. Always been pulling for VY. And I also think CJ is the best all around back in the game. If the Titans can somehow get back into the playoff picture it would be one of the greatest stories of all time. We'll have to either win out (finish 10-6) or catch some breaks (1 or more playoff caliber teams finish 9-7 or worse) to have a chance. It's tough, but a very similar Titans team started last year 10-0, so who knows.
  2. This will be a tough, but important, game for the Titans. The Texans have the ability to challenge our secondary again if they choose and we'll likely struggle against Andre Johnson. I don't think they have much success running the ball - which seems to be what they've committed to recently. A win would be huge over an AFC South rival and would set us up to seriously consider the outside possibility of playoff contention (as we'd potentially only be one game out). We still have to win out, though, and that'll be tough.
  3. Not terribly concerned with Vandy, especially since Kiffin will absolutely have the team's attention after the Ole MIss Massacre. Glad he kicked Nuke and Edwards off the team today. Hope everything with Jackson is resolved soon. 7-5 is an absolute must if we want a Chick-Fil-A appearance. And honestly, that might get UT into the Outback because the SEC is so top heavy. UF and Bama will be in the BCS Bowl(s). LSU/Ole Miss winner to the Capital One, the other to the Cotton. Auburn,Arkansas, Georgia, and Tennessee are all likely 7-5 teams, and I think the Outback takes Tennessee in that case. That's a very plausible scenario. And I think 7-5 from Tennessee is very likely at this point.
  4. I'd take Stoops over Meyer in a heartbeat. I also think Stoops has more reason to leave his current position. Meyer has made it clear that he wants to stay at Florida at least until his kids are out of school. I'm not sure he ever leaves the state to recruit whereas the head coach at ND flies all over the country (including now to Hawaii). He's got a perfect situation in Florida, no reason to leave. If ND is really his "dream job" he may get it at some point down the road. But Stoops has been getting pressure and doesn't have the same easy set-up as Meyer. I'm not sure he'd take it, but it's a much better gig than it was 5 years ago. I'll be surprised if ND doesn't have someone in place before the team returns from Stanford, whether it's public or not. Just out of curiosity, why do you prefer Stoops to Meyer?
  5. I'd love, love, love to have Stoops. Easily my #1 choice. You and me both. Over Urban Meyer? Or do you not consider him an option? I don't think there's any way Urban would leave UF. I would think Stoops is just as unlikely (if not moreso). Stoops has been under a little bit more pressure the past couple of seasons, if he was going to leave this would be the perfect season for him to do so. I think he is just going to use the thought of leaving to cut him a little slack from the boosters who will be scared of him actually leaving. Meyer has one of the best College or Pro football jobs in the country, no reason to leave. The only reason for Urban to leave would be the "dream job" that Notre Dame is for him. I don't think either should consider it.
  6. Is the player striking out because he's swinging for the fences with two strikes, or is it because he's being patient and not swinging at pitchers' pitches and, thus, striking out on some of them?

  8. The Titans are starting to look rather salty. The defense has improved significantly. That's helped Vince to play well and he certainly has. they're still not very good...they've beaten some pretty bad teams. The defense couldn't slow down bad teams in the first 6 weeks. We know the talent is there, so the fact that the talent is playing better is a good sign.

  10. It's tough to make a comp with Chris Johnson since he's had so much success. I think CJ Spiller is better than McCluster, FWIW. Probably right. McCluster's speed is very intriguing, though.

  12. That's not true at all. I don't get how anybody can think it is. If a person simply works on striking out less, it could easily result in even less production. The "just put the ball in play" philosophy probably results in the weakest performance a player can have. Really the heart of the issue is, how much power (and to a lesser extent, BABIP) would a player sacrifice to achieve a given improvement (reduction) in strikeout rate? For example if a guy could cut his strikeout rate in half while only diminishing his power by 5%, with no change in his BABIP, then he'd be crazy not to make that adjustment in his hitting approach. But if a guy would lose a lot of power and also some BABIP while only reducing K's by less than 10%, then it's a bad choice. And in the end, the tradeoff of K's for power and BABIP will be different for every player. BABIP is tied to LD%, though. If you start slapping at pitchers' pitches just to avoid Ks, then the likelihood is that you'll have more weak contact. Weak contact rarely leads to hits - since LD% will go down and, thus, BABIP will fall.
  13. For people who've seen both, compare Dexter McCluster to Chris Johnson. Could McCluster be a Johnson-type runner, or is he not that good? He's smaller than CJ (5'11, 200 for CJ vs 5'8, 165 for McCluster).
  14. This is a very conflicting set of sentences. You like, you don't like, it's not bad you are giving the game away. I'm very conflicted about the decision. Part of me wants to love it, part of me thinks it was too risky. I'm becoming more and more convinced it was the right call, though.
  15. Just saw that. It's . . . interesting.
  16. The more I've thought about Belichick's decision last night, the more I like it. I don't know that I'd say I liked the move, but I certainly don't think it was a terrible decision. It's not so much going for it on fourth down, that I liked. It's more the position on the field. From your own 30 yard line, you're basically guaranteeing a win for the Colts if you don't get it. Punting it there at least gives your defense a chance to stop them.
  17. I was happy to see what the Titans did today. The game was much closer than the final score indicated thanks to a pair of pick-6s in the final 2:30 (it's so nice to have Vincent Fuller back), but the Titans had decent control of the game most of the way. Another good game for Vince where he made mostly good decisions and a few nice throws (a deep out to Nate and a fly to, I believe, Britt in particular) has me feeling very good about his development. Chris Johnson is ridiculously good as well. I was silly to dislike that pick. It seems silly, but I'm starting to wonder if 10-6 is possible at this point. Just 7 more straight wins . . .
  18. If you cap margin of victory pretty low, I think it should come back. It's not a reliable factor, though, if Florida shoots for 100 against Coastal Carolina or something. Or if Texas doesn't let off the pedal yesterday against Baylor. There are still ways to account for that, though. Put a cap of 30 points in the second half/fourth quarter or something. Something well beyond the reasonable range of comebacks. That's the point I was making. As long as you put a cap on margin of victory, I'm fine with it. Without a cap, you skew the numbers by teams running up the score on 1-AAs, etc.
  19. I don't get it. You're not that much more likely to get a stop with the punt, and you're very likely to get the first down if you try it. They were averaging 9 yards a pass and 4 yards a rush. Even bad offensive teams convert 4th and 2 half the time. It was not a terrible decision. I understand the thinking and reasoning and certainly get wanting to have the game decided by your strongest unit (for the Pats, the offense). You're giving the game away if you go for that and don't get it, though. I think you punt there and force a few more throws (and thus a few more chances for bad throws) by Peyton. Again, though, it wasn't a terrible call and I actually am impressed by Belichick to make that call.
  20. A win over Vandy clinches bowl eligibility. We need to beat Vandy. As long as Crompton plays similarly to how he has since Georgia, we should win easily. Probably ticketed for the Peach Bowl at this point.
  21. Yep. The Patriots make those two yards 80% of the time and that basically ends the game. They stop the Colts with that much time less often I'm all for going for it in unconventional, yet smart, spots. However, I don't think you can basically hand Peyton Manning a touchdown there. Belichick decided to decide the game on that play - either his offense gets it and and the Pats win, or his offense doesn't get it and the Colts (almost certainly) win. That deep in your own territory, you have to punt and hope your defensive playmakers can make a play.

  23. I'm not real surprised by Tennessee's loss. I thought we had the chance to win out, but also knew that Ole Miss was clearly a better team if they showed up to play (and got the ball to McCluster). They showed up and were clearly better. Crompton had another nice day, which is encouraging, and we can still win 7 games and make the Peach Bowl (potentially) if we beat Vandy and Kentucky. 7-5 isn't a bad year in Kiffin's first year.
  24. Deserving? Definitely. Will he win it? I'm not sure. He's not a QB. I read an article a little while ago that promoted Ndamakong Suh for the Heisman. It won't happen, but he might be the most deserving this year.
  25. They're not a "big name" though.
