  1. I'm sure they had an idea going in that they were going to draft o-line with the first pick, so taking Chris Williams instead of Chris Johnson doesn't really bother me. By the time their 2nd rounder came up, Johnson was already gone. So I guess I'm just wondering what they saw in Forte that they liked over Rice and Charles. The questions surrounding Ray Rice primarily centered around his size. He's only 5'8 and he dropped like he did because teams wondered if he could hold up over the course of a season as a feature back. He was largely seen as anywhere from an Eric Metcalf to a Darren Sproles (backing up LT). Not as a #1 guy. I don't remember the analysis at the time about Charles, but from what I can find it appears his ability to run between the tackles and his tendency to fumble knocked him to later in the draft. Forte was seen as having the ability to be a feature back and was extremely productive in college. At 6'2, 218 he's also much bigger than either Charles or Rice.
  2. Unless Noel Devine declares, he is too fast for the Raiders to pass up. Could the Raiders go McCluster in the first round?
  3. Nah, I'm just bad at math.
  4. The Titans and Broncos both finished 8-8 but boy did they take different paths to get there. Yeah, Titans fans feel a lot more optimistic about their team than Bronco fans do, even though both teams finished with identical records. It likely has to do with the Titans finishing the year 8-2 and the Broncos finishing the season 2-8.
  5. The only NFC team I'm rooting against is the Vikings because of Favre and in all likelihood, will be rooting for their representative in the Super Bowl. I wouldn't mind Dallas because I got tired of the whole "Romo can't win in December" crap and I'm glad he shut people up about that, at least for now. I'm not rooting for NE (Tuck Rule), NYJ (it's NY), Indy (they rolled over last week) and SD (same division as the Raiders). I don't have any problems with the two AFC North teams but I doubt Cincy makes it out of WC weekend and I don't think Baltimore makes the Super Bowl. I'm guessing it will be Indy-SD in the AFC title game especially with Welker hurt. It would be interesting to see what Jerry Jones did with Wade Phillips if the Cowboys won a couple playoff games.
  6. I just don't want Colts/Cowboys. Too many of my friends root for one of those teams. Anything else I'd enjoy. I think if anything I want Colts/Packers or Colts/Saints. Lots of points, hopefully. Yeah, any of those three games (the latter two you mentioned or Colts/Eagles) would provide quite a few points. That's definitely a plus for any of those matchups. There aren't really two marquee defenses in these playoffs to match up.
  7. :( Sorry, nothing against the Packers or most any other team in either league. I just want to see either Peyton get a second ring or McNabb/Reid get their first. I'm a big fan of them.
  8. The Panthers are the only team in the history of the league to have two 1,100-yard rushers this year and also went 8-8, so I guess you and I are kindred spirits in the 'insane rushing numbers with little to show for it' regard. Yes, though I, as I'm sure you would as well, would agree to trade the rushing record for a playoff spot, though. :) That's just more reason, to me, why it's silly to evaluate a football player on how many winning seasons or super bowl rings he has. CJ, Stewart and Williams are now worse because their teams were bad. It's generally only QBs who get this stigma attached to them (i.e. Brady is better than Peyton because Brady has 4 rings and Peyton has 1), but I occassionally hear it with other players as well. It's silly.
  9. I am officially rooting for a Colts/Eagles Super Bowl.
  10. Same time the Titans do.
  11. Nice win for the Titans today to get to 8-8 and avoid a losing record. And, of course, I'm really happy CJ was able to get 2,000 yards. The holding call on Hall that brought back the 62-yard run was a bit ticky-tack, but by the book it was the right call. Still wish they had missed it so that CJ would've had a chance at Dickerson's record. Interesting note they showed a few times in the game - CJ is the only running back of the six who have rushed for 2,000 yards to do it for a non-playoff team. That's crazy. As for the game, the defense played fairly well with rookie linebacker Gerald McRath playing a pretty good game and Rod Hood having an ok day despite being targeted all day long. The offense was ok too, nothing really special. I'll be really interested to see the direction management takes things in the offseason. I can see the positives to continue trying to plug in players and get whatever you can out of guys like KVB, Bulluck, etc, but I can also see the reasons to take a season to rebuild the defense a bit and give Vince another full year of starting before really going full force for a Super Bowl run. The sentimental side of me really wants the most underrated linebacker in the league (Bulluck) to remain a Titan.
  12. Yeah, he's nowhere near retirement then.
  13. I want to see more from A&M and see if Sherman is there long term (he could retire or head back to the NFL). But yeah, they're definitely heading in the right direction. Maybe I'm blind, but I don't see Sherm leaving anytime soon. We played something like 18 freshman this year and he has a very good recruiting class coming in. His OL recruits are ridiculously good. The skill position players are already outstanding. I'm still concerned about the defense. I wasn't happy when Sherman was hired (I wanted Tuberville) but he seems to have us on the right track. It's going to take a lot to compete with Texas & OU every year, though. That is a tall order. The NFL is probably unlikely and I don't know how old he is, so he may well stay. I just kind of always saw him as more of an NFL coach than college, so I wonder if he'll look to head back sometime soon - if there's any interest. He's definitely improved them significantly since getting there and I think it's turning out to be the right hire. You're right, though, that competing with Texas and OU is difficult.
  14. ECU kicker has missed three straight field goals. All in the last minute of the game and overtime.
  15. ECU/Arkansas in overtime.
  16. And that's not even true. 8/4/3 is "more" money than 3/4/8. Consider, also, that with the backloaded deal, should we try to trade him, say, in the third year of his deal, we'll save more money. For instance, with a 3/4/8 setup, we pay him $7 million the first two years and then trade him and eat, say, half of his third year's money. That leaves us paying a total of $11 million for him. If we set up the contract as 8/4/3, then we pay $12 million up front and, in the same scenario, we pay half his third year salary. In that instance, we pay a total of $13.5 million for him. That may be what you're talking about, but I thought I'd point it out. He was talking about the time value of money. Yeah, I remember that now. He explained it in an earlier post.

  18. I'm not arguing for or against them. I'm just curious about their use.
  19. I know he's three inches shorter, but I'll be interested to see what McCluster runs at the combine. I don't think he'll be as explosive as Chris Johnson, but I think he can have a similar type of impact.
  20. Dexter McCluster runs fast.

  22. Using this argument, I don't see how we come to the conclusion that the park is affecting the team moreso than the team is affecting the park. Some in this thread have used park effects to show that Wrigley and Arlington are both good hitters' parks. But are they? Or is it just that teams that have been assembled in the parks have hit well at home? I can see how the train of thought would lead you to the parks having an effect, but could it not very well be a correlation does not equal causation subject? (i.e. just because the teams are hitting well at home, it doesn't necessarily mean the park is great for hitting in?)
  23. Drew Brees will sit and Mark Brunell will start Sunday for the Saints.
  24. According to Cot's, yes he does. http://mlbcontracts.blogspot.com/2005/01/chicago-cubs_112114177768677294.html No trade protection is different than a no trade clause, is it not? Protection, I think, just means that he can limit his options of where he's traded.
  25. He's forcing his passes too much. Other than the two interceptions at the goal line, it's been a very even game, I think.
