  1. Yeah, I thought Kiffin was doing a pretty good job in Oakland until he was canned. Davis should have been more patient with him, just like he ought to be more patient with Cable. Five wins with that roster is a pretty decent job.
  2. Incorrect info. Miller is going nowhere, and if I knew how, I'd post screen caps to prove it. Johnson decommitted when Frank Wilson left for LSU so that is old info. WIllis is looking around, and as shaky as he's been, I won't be shocked to see him land elsewhere. Ambles is quoted by Pat Tholey of Rivals as saying that USC was his second choice anyway (sorry, OMC, but you're living in a dreamland if you think you have any shot at Ambles) and that he's going to officially visit next weekend. UT will absolutely lose a few recruits... and some big names to boot. But, Garner could be huge in getting Alec Ogletree, DJ Stripling, and Da'Rick Rogers to UT. Don't know if that will happen, but it could. Any chance Ambles stays?
  3. http://www.wbir.com/news/breaking/story.aspx?storyid=110451&catid=29 yikes Ok this is funny I love that.
  4. Lots of talk on the Texas boards too, though I am guessing most everything they are saying is coming from the Tenn boards. Espn guy mentioned Dave Cutcliff as a guy who would make sense too. All of this is happening so damn fast. I'd love Cutcliffe, but I don't know if the reception for him would be great. It'd be like re-hiring Fulmer, probably.
  5. Living in Atlanta and hearing about Paul Johnson this year, he really seems to be different. I don't think he wants to go anywhere and I actually believe him. But money talks. Yeah, he'd be a longshot, but I really think highly of Johnson's ability to coach.
  6. Like I said, Muschamp would be a solid hire. About the best we could expect (outside of Leach). I figured the assistants would fall that way, but I'm glad to hear that apparently Thompson is staying. Garner would be a fantastic hire if that's accurate.
  7. Because he's quirky and has controversy around him. Enough people here were pissed at some of the things Lane did that I think Hamilton would be way too cautious about bringing in another "controversial" hire. Leach would come if Tennessee was interested, I just don't think UT will show enough interest. I can't express how much I hope I'm wrong, though. I would love to see Leach in the SEC just to see how it worked out. I think he'd work very well. His spread offense would be questioned just like Meyer's spread option was, but I don't doubt that it'd work. That said, Calhoun runs the triple option I believe. That'd be fascinating as well. I wonder if we could get Paul Johnson?
  8. The ceiling for the head coach at UT is much higher than what Lane was making, but the assistants were getting paid more than most. Either way, Muschamp would make significantly more than he does now.
  9. He'd be a solid choice and it's being reported that they're interested. Not as good as Leach, but solid. Crap I hope not, though its just a matter of time. Not completely sold on him as a head coach either though, although for the same reasons Carroll was successful at USC. Its one of those styles that could go either way. Yeah, him not being a head coach before is bothersome, but he's been very solid everywhere he's been and I haven't heard any negative comments about him. Outside of Leach, he'd be there with Calhoun and maybe Gruden at the top of my list.

  11. man that is a huge kick in the balls for tennessee. they look like they were really building toward something and now they lose their coach and who knows, maybe some assistants too? ouch. Yeah, and talk about bridge-burning. Knoxville faithful have to be furious with him. Local news is reporting angry mobs of UT students marching around campus. May be exaggeration, but pretty close to everyone is pissed about this.
  12. He'd be a solid choice and it's being reported that they're interested. Not as good as Leach, but solid.
  13. This really sucks. I mean, really sucks. There's not a worse time for a coach to bolt and, like VolCub said, this probably means many, many commits are heading elsewhere. The only hope on that end is that it's so close to signing day and so many schools are already loaded down with prospects. As for Kiffin's replacement, I want Mike Leach. It won't happen, but he's the best coach available and it's not particularly close. Tuberville would've been really nice as well, but he was hired a week too early. As for realistic possibilities, Mike Hamilton really liked Air Force's Troy Calhoun last year and it's being reported that Tennessee has contacted Jon Gruden. I want Leach more than either, but would be fine with them. I'm not that surprised that the Kiffins are leaving, I figured they would the first chance they got at being hired at USC. I'm more surprised that USC had to go all the way down the list to Lane. By my count, he was probably their 7th or 8th choice. It's a crappy move, but USC is a better job than UT and he has ties there. It's not a surprise.
  14. [expletive] John Grabow. If we had the money to spend, I wouldn't guarantee $10 million a year for Sheets anway.
  15. Interesting. I've been keeping up with him because he's the type of player – fantastic athleticism, massive upside – that Mike Reinfeldt really likes. If they don't trade up for Berry (highly unlikely), then Mays might be a guy they consider if he drops to 16.
  16. I saw a lot of tape this year showing him more timid and really not tackling well at all. Did you see this and if so, do you know why? Sure, it happened. The defense was down this year. The linebackers were consistently destroyed at the point of attack and Mays had to be the last line of defense. Obviously things were easier when he had Cushing, Maualuga, and Matthews in front of him taking on blockers and ball carriers. When you lose all 3 things go in the crapper. The linebacking play was really, really poor this year and it hurt the whole team. Even so, it's not like teams were bombing SC up and down the field. They were churning out long, sustained drives and eating clock and that's worse a lot of the time. I was just curious because one of the things I liked most about Mays was his ability to deliver big hits and be a very physical safety (in the mold of a Polamalu). In some of the games and highlights I saw, I wasn't seeing that same physicality.

  18. Even though I liked my mock for the Titans at the time, I'm very happy to say they did much better at the real draft than I did at the mock for them.
  19. After "Bob Stoops is going to be ND's coach tomorrow", I take anything Schefter ever says about college coaching with a metric ton of salt. Especially when no one else is reporting this. Any names in between USC and Lane Kiffin makes me happy. And Mariucci should get another shot sooner than later.
  20. Agreed what's the deal with Baldelli? He could be a good option for a RH 4th/5th OF and RH pinch hitter. He shouldn't command more than a 1 yr. deal and less than $2m. He's probably one of the few FA OF options that if we had a injury he wouldn't be a horrible option to have playing everyday (or close to it) for an extended period of time. The other OF I hope Jim kicks the tires on is Randy Winn, he should be cheap and shouldn't command a long term deal, and can play the corner OF spots and CF in a pinch. I think I'd be more interested in Winn than Baldelli in a bench role, but I'm not very crazy about either. Baldelli has a career .320-ish OBP and a .279 average. He's only 27, but his bat wouldn't be a reason to bring him in. Winn has been good recently (for a potential bench bat), but wasn't good at all last year and is 35.
  21. Schefter's twitter:
  22. Yeah, USC 9.9999999 times out of 10 is a better job than Tennessee, generally by a wide margin (because of location and recruiting base primarily), but it's actually debatable right now. Tennessee does have a large amount of talented young players returning with a high potential group of recruits committed. I don't think USC can blow Tennessee away monetarily either for Lane himself or his assistants. Mike Hamilton has shown he's willing to pay to keep good coaches. A lot depends on the sanctions that may hit USC. If they get a postseason ban for any period of time, I think Tennessee might actually be better right now. Looking down the road, however, USC is the better job and my thoughts are that Lane may bolt because of that. I hope not, though.
  23. Florida safety Major Wright has declared for the draft.
  24. Just tell me who the fastest WR and CB were from the combine and I'll take the one rated lower in the first round. Then give me the OL or DL with the most bench reps and he'll go in the second round. Tebow can wait until the third. Do you really think Al Davis will pass on Tebow twice? The Jags might take him in the first or second round. Davis might just trade up to the first pick to get Tebow.
  25. I'm starting to hear increasing rumors that USC is considering Lane Kiffin. Please no.
