  1. Interesting . . .
  2. The most important thing to me with this hire is finding the right coach. However, completely forfeiting this recruiting class would not be a good thing for a team with as little depth as UT has. You don't want to make a quick, poor hire, but time should be considered as well.
  3. That's the only name I've heard that I like better than Leach. I put no stock whatsoever into those rumors, but the thought is rather awesome. I'm interested in Calhoun, but not overly excited by the hire. He'd be very similar to Turner Gill, in that he's done a good job at the position he's in, but I'm not sure how that would translate to a program like UT.
  4. That's interesting, sure your happy about that. I'm still looking for word that Muschamp is 100% out of the running :-). I've actually heard that Brent Hubbs (Volquest Rivals head guy) is reporting that conversations are still ongoing between UT and Muschamp. I still want Leach, but I have no idea what rumors are accurate at this point.
  5. The Sports Time Network is reporting that Leach has been offered the UT job and Troy Calhoun is the second choice should Leach turn us down. I've never heard of this blog, so I have no clue on the accuracy.
  6. Chaney to Chicago?
  7. I agree. Plus they beat two playoff teams in Philly and Cincinnati and helped keep Denver out of the playoffs. The major sticking point appears to be Russell. Russell is Al's QB while Cable obviously isn't too fond of him. Whoever the coach is next year is going to have to agree to play Russell because Al wants it to happen. It's also hilarious that the meeting between Cable and Davis will take place whenever Al decides to show up - which is why it's been pushed back twice, Al hasn't showed up. Yeah, Cable is not being fired for performance, he's being fired for not playing a QB with high potential but who has been dreadfully bad so far. If Davis wants the Raiders to get back to what they can be, he needs to quit meddling.
  8. Good move.
  9. Yeah, I didn't really have a problem with Kiffin. He never really had a chance to do much and it's so hard to tell if a coach there is actually doing a good job because of Al Davis. I know he just screwed my team and all, but he really ought to get another NFL head coaching job.
  10. And that's fantastic news on Bray. We can at least keep our QBs intact heading into next year.
  11. Air Force is a proven winning program, has been for 30 years. You're right, I misstated. Wins were tough to come by, however, for a few years before Calhoun got there (5-7 wins in the mid 2000s), but he got them back to a consistent 8-9 win team. I think he can continue to improve them if he doesn't get a bigger (BCS) job (which I think he should).
  12. Yes. His entire family moved to Knoxville. Little brother is enrolled at Farragut. Also, Mr. SEC SUUUCCKS. Isn't Hyams the primary UT writer there? Volquest is absolutely worth $10 a month. Volsbitch.com is free, incredibly irreverent, and a good site for entertainment and pretty solid info. You should look into one of those. Best info on Tennessee athletics on the web. It's actually John Pennington and Josh Ward as the main contributors to MrSEC. Hyams isn't involved at all, to my knowledge. And I keep considering Volquest, but just don't like paying money.
  13. VolCub, Is Bray staying?
  14. USC may still need an OC.
  15. Interesting stuff. What is it you don't like about Calhoun? He's done a pretty good job at Air Force, a job where success is extremely hard to come by. I liken him similarly to Turner Gill. And I knew Hamilton wouldn't consider Leach, but he's far and away the best option. He should be the next coach here, but Muschamp would be solid, I think. Nope. Haven't really found any good ones and I don't like the idea of paying to be on a message board. I do follow MrSEC.com at times, though.
  16. And who, exactly, is saying this, sulley? come on, tell the truth, you like their chances next season, don't you? I haven't felt like we could contend for a national title since 2001. And that year we did compete for one. If we get a good coach out of this, 7-8 wins is possible and probable. Any more would be a very good stunner.
  17. Hamilton made the decision to hire him based on him being a good coach and a good recruiter. He was right on both counts. He took a risk likely knowing Kiffin would bolt at the first chance to go to USC, but who would have thought that job would open after one season? If Pete Carroll hadn't gone to the Seahawks, Kiffin is still here building a good program. However, Hamilton's assessment that Kiffin was a good coach and excellent recruiter was correct. That's what I was getting at. good coach and excellent recruiter is not considering all the facts. he's the reason why there are riots in knoxville right now. This is true and also why my wording was poor. Hamilton has proven to be very good at evaluating talented coaches and can get them to Tennessee. I think he'll find a very good coach, I just hope this coach stays here.
  18. He needs a Manning to be badass. although I have to admit what he has done with Duke football is quite impressive. Yeah, he's disproving that theory quite well at Duke. He also fixed Erik Ainge from a horrific sophomore year to an NFL quarterback and made what was a bad Tennessee offense a good offense.
  19. That Kippy Brown hire is looking better than ever now. A very good coach who can stabilize the program a bit and maybe save a few extra recruits is very important right now. And I'd love to get Smart, but I really, really doubt it'd be feasible. If he was looking to leave Bama for anything other than a HC job, I think he'd be at UGA. The latest news is just sickening. Paul Finebaum is saying that Muschamp is a no (PF is really good friends with Jimmy Sexton) and the name being thrown out that seems to be picking up a little bit of steam is Doug Marrone. :banghead: If we're going to go with a former UT coach, why not try hard to get Cutcliffe? He's the best coach UT may have ever seen. Of course, I want Leach. And I'm going to keep saying that until Hamilton goes for him.
  20. I think it's more the way he's leaving (and the timing) moreso than the fact that he's leaving.

  22. Shady crap. Oh well, I figured he'd bolt the minute he had a shot at USC or the NFL. Just didn't think it'd be this soon. The good thing for us here is that Mike Hamilton has yet to make a bad hire. Pearl, Kiffin (if he had stayed longer), Raleigh, etc. have all proven to be good coaches. I'm optimistic that he'll make another good hire here.
  23. That's the weird thing. He didn't look at all timid two years ago, but he did last year. He's got great upside, but he's not going to have the immediate impact Berry will.

  25. Lane can recruit and he can bring in a fantastic staff. He did it at Tennessee and I'm sure he'll do it at USC as well. He can coach too, though. Jonathan Crompton doesn't turn into the best QB in the SEC for 8 weeks if Kiffin and his staff can't coach.
