  1. TruffleShuffle and the Eagles are on the clock. I PMd him.
  2. Flames and the Packers are on the clock. I PMd him.
  3. True. I was meaning more short term. Long term it means we are being patient and we should start hitting better but short term it means we just aren't swinging well (or getting extremely, extremely unlucky). We have a team BABIP so far of .212. With a 12 LD%.
  4. I think it was actually 2 1/2 years for Perry. I think he started with the Cubs along with Lou in 2007. Yeah, I think you're right about that. My timeline was off a bit.
  5. ELCABALLO and the Patriots are on the clock. I PMd him. If anybody wants the Bengals, let me know.
  6. The natural rivalries is a big thing, I think. Outside of Arkansas, there's just no established rivalries for either team. I agree, though, this is just throwing around ideas right now. I agree the natural rivalries are a big thing but getting two teams like Texas and Oklahoma isn't something any conference would turn down. They both have strong followings, bring in lots of money, are very good in the big sports and bring one of the best rivalries with them. If they asked, I don't think the SEC would turn them down. But I think the SEC would put most of its time into wooing ACC teams that make more geographical sense. But yeah, if Texas and OU asked to join, I'm sure the SEC would be very open to that.
  7. We have a collection of pretty crappy offensive players for the most part in the lineup. With the guys who actually have some semblance of talent (Lee, Ramirez, Byrd, Colvin) he's done a reasonably good job. All four of those guys have looked the part at the plate even if the results aren't coming yet for some. Nady has been good thus far too. Can't blame Rudy for all the ABs we're giving to guys like Theriot, Fontenot and Koyie Hill (and even the first two of those got their hits tonight). That was mostly TIC, this is the 3rd hitting coatch in 3 years right? I do like the fact they're forcing pitchers to throw a lot of pitches, and have faith the offense will be pretty good. It's like Michigan's football team hiring a new defensive coordinator every year. Let the guy work his mojo and not put the blame on him after 1 year Gerald Perry was the hitting coach for (I believe) a year and a half and then Von Joshua took over around the middle of last year. Jaramillo then took over in the offseason. So it's been 3 hitting coaches in 3 years, but not exactly one year per hitting coach.

  9. Georgia Tech and Clemson would both be options, I agree. North Carolina would make a lot of sense from a football standpoint, but there's no way the basketball team would be in favor of it. Wasn't FSU close to coming to the SEC in the 90s? I think Bowden eventually vetoed it, but I seem to remember them considering it strongly. I think both would be possibilities because of the rivalries and money and I think the ACC is on the rise. UNC football is getting better, Va Tech is good to very good and Clemson has potential. I think they'd strongly consider it.
  10. Why not? They're the kings of the Big XII as it is, plus there are no natural rivalries in the SEC for either team (save maybe Arkansas). Money would be the biggest reason they'd be interested, but I think the SEC would be more interested in a team like FSU or Miami due to the natural rivalries (Florida teams, FSU/Bama, etc.).
  11. The SEC would be more likely to get a Florida State or Miami from the ACC (Va Tech might be another option) if it chose to expand.
  12. rocket and the Bengals are on the clock. I PMd him.
  13. We traded Kyle Lohse and Jay Ryan for Aguilera and Scott Downs.
  14. rawaction and the Texans are on the clock. I PMd him.
  15. Yeah, I probably understated that a tad. Though in a more prominent conference, some of the Florida schools (FAU and UCF in particular) could start to improve a bit more quickly. FAU is kind of in that UConn and USF mold in that it hasn't been D1A for very long and yet is still having some success. Put in a more prominent conference, Schnellenberger could really improve them. UCF has been a pretty good team off and on in Conference USA and, being in Florida, might have the potential to improve some as well.
  16. The Big East could always add teams as well. Memphis has been looking for a larger conference to join and its basketball program would make it enticing. ECU is another school that could be considered and most any Florida school could be a possibility as well (lower conference, that is). I don't know if it'd retain BCS status, but there are schools it could add to keep football. The shake up it would cause would be very interesting. If they take a couple Big East teams along with 1 or 2 Big XII teams and Notre Dame everything could change. The SEC would probably stay the same but every other major conference could change with the Pac-10 taking some of the Big XII schools and the rest of the Big XII and Big East combining into one conference. Basically you would see big conference add to the number of schools in the conference and the number of BCS conferences go down by one. Going down to 5 BCS conferences isn't necessarily a bad thing for the BCS people either. It would open the door to more non-BCS schools getting a big bowl game and thus quiet the call for a playoff a bit. A playoff is still inevitable in my mind but this could delay it a couple of years. I've heard rumors that Arkansas wants into the Big XII (more natural rivalries, but less money).
  17. I think the problem is more his approach. He's never been a real patient hitter and, thus, has never had a high OBP (career .326 OBP). He's always relied heavily on his athletic ability to succeed and now that his athletic ability is declining, his doesn't have the patience and fundamentals (I guess?) to remain a quality hitter. He was definitely very good in 2007 and 2008, but still his OBP in those years was .337 and .344. Considering his very high SLG, those were fine, but as the slugging has dropped, the low OBP has stood out more. I still think he can improve and be at least a solid offensive player for us, but I don't know if he's a high .800s OPS guy.

  19. I'd have gladly traded down with you for your second round pick. How kind of you. Let me just check that draft value chart... Hey, you want Haden. :D Apparently he's pretty expensive. Actually, I was very happy with the Kyle Wilson pick the more I thought about it. I'd be OK if that's how the real draft turned out, although it seems like Trent Williams will be gone before 13. Yeah, I can't see the Titans having a choice between Morgan, Haden and JPP. In fact, JPP is the only player I realistically see falling to the Titans at 16. If McClain falls as far as he did in this mock, though, the Titans need to be trading up to get him.

  21. Yeah, I'd rather see him as a starter but he's still the guy I trust most in the bullpen, so this isn't a terrible outcome. If Caridad can pitch effectively (or Shark or Grabow), we could have a real good group of pitchers for the 7th through 9th innings. Marmol/Marshall is a nice back end of the pen.
  22. I mean, it's the right call, but it's crazy how quick Lou's hook is with some guys. Yeah, he definitely isn't patient.
  23. I've said this before, but my hope is that with Jaramillo being so good at fixing the mechanics of players he'll be able to keep Fukudome out of those long slumps he tends to have. Kosuke gets some bad mechanics in his swing at times and that's led to his overall numbers getting worse. Each time his Japanese instructor has arrived, though, he's fixed those mechanics. Hopefully Jaramillo can fix that.
  24. Chris DeLuca of the Sun-Times (I think?) was on ESPN's First Take this morning and said that Lou is planning to use Marshall in the 8th inning more after the struggles of the other bullpen guys. If he's not going to put him in the rotation, this is the next best thing, I guess.
