  1. My view, at least, is that late rounds is the perfect time to get a good, young backup who you can develop as a backup and have control of cheaply for an extended period. Especially in today's NFL, having a quality backup is critical and being able to develop one is that much moreso. And this was the perfect draft to get that QB. The top wasn't that strong, but the depth was very good.
  2. Gurley definitely is a freakish athlete. I want to see him another year before feeling confident that I'd take him in the first round, but I think he's probably worth it. Davis is really good as well, possibly a first round quality RB too. Not familiar enough with Gordon yet - I need to watch some Wisconsin games.
  3. You'd inject heroin into your forehead too if you just found out Johnny Manziel was throwing to you Yeah the guy who threw 7,820 yards at a 68.9% completion rate. What a bum. We'll see Manziel won't be the next coming of Unitas or anything, I don't think. It's a virtual lock he'll be better than the crap Cleveland has been running out there, though.
  4. Walter Football has Coleman signing with the Saints.
  5. Apparently gone to Arizona now. These things change a lot. Christian Jones was listed as a Jag about 15 minutes ago. Man, this is just like college recruiting. We got a decommit but we flipped someone else's. Wonder about the quality of hostesses. Considering it was probably an upgrade in players for the Bears, there must be some pretty high quality hostesses in Chicago.
  6. I probably wouldn't take Forte early in the first unless it was a pretty barren draft. I wouldn't rule him out of the entire first, though.
  7. Ah, didn't realize they had good run blocking lines. I knew the line had been terrible and assumed it was the case all the way around. It still depends on the quality of the draft. Forte has been extremely consistent and durable as well as being quite productive. Yep, an ideal 2nd round pick. If the draft is strong enough to push him down, sure. I don't think a first round grade would be out of line, though.
  8. I'm not saying Forte relies on a great line, I'm saying with a better line his numbers might improve slightly. Same with Peterson, Charles, LT or any other back. Peterson has a career 5.0 ypc and Forte is at 4.3 - if a better line gave Forte a few tenths of a yard more, he'd be really close to Peterson. Heck, he's already really close to Peterson if his first two years were more like the past 4. Not sure why he had the 2 years of slightly sub-4 ypc, but it's what's keeping him from being on Peterson's level.

  10. Assuming he actually did sign with the Titans, I really like the Antonio Andrews pickup. Has the potential to replace Shonn Greene as the power back at a much cheaper price as early as this year.
  11. I'd be interested to see what his numbers looked like behind a better line. He's posted a steady 4.5 or so yards per carry each year and the Bear lines have been pretty abysmal. It would depend on the rest of the talent in the draft, but if Forte is a 5ish ypc guy behind a good line for 6+ years, that'd be hard to pass up. He's on the low end of what I'd want, though. I'd definitely hope I was getting more of a Peterson or Charles type.
  12. This will be really interesting - maybe the most interesting storyline in next year's draft (and far better than the Manziel story this year). Stud RBs are still clearly very valuable in the NFL (Peterson, Forte, Charles, etc) and I think a stud RB is worth a 1st round pick (and probably a high 1st). However, you better be certain that RB is a stud if you're going to use that pick on him. Is Gurley truly a stud back and will a team take that gamble? It'll be interesting to see, I think.
  13. L'Damian Washington to Dallas.
  14. The top 10 went really bad for us, I think. I figure Barr and Gilbert were likely both targets and word is that the Titans to ready to pull the trigger on a trade with (I believe) the Browns, but the Browns pulled out at the last second. After that, my guess is they just decided to go BPA and fill a future need (no chance Roos resigns I'll bet). I would have preferred Mosley or Fuller, but given the way the first round went down, I don't have a problem with the Lewan pick. Taking Jones surprised me a bit, but I like it. Big enough to play the nose when we go 3-4, but athletic enough to play in the 4-3 front as well. I would have preferred Thomas there, but have no problem with Jones. I've never really been on the Locker bandwagon since he was drafted. Wanted Kaepernick before that draft and just didn't see enough upside in Locker. He seemed too much like a pick to go as far away from Vince as possible - we failed with a super talented headcase, so we drafted a hard working, good character guy who happened to not be extremely talented. That was one problem I had during the Munchak regime - they seemed to avoid any guys with character issues without consideration for their talent. Ultimately I don't think Mettenberger will become a starter, but I like taking the chance. Worst case scenario is we jump at a Mariota/Winston/Hundley type in the first round next year.
  15. Packers got Rajion Neal. He won't start anywhere, but he can be versatile, is a real good kid and I think can be a valuable backup at several positions.
  16. Ikard was intriguing, I'm just not sure there's upside there. Bullough was similar, but a position of real need. I really like Burton, no clue where he'll play though.
  17. Guys I'd like to see the Titans pursue as UDFA: Jordan Lynch (as a safety) Rajion Neal Brandon Coleman Colt Lyerla A.C. Leonard Trey Burton (no clue where he'd play, but too talented to ignore) Tiny Richardson (really, really like him) James Stone Anthony Johnson Christian Jones Shayne Skov Max Bullough Brock Coyle Marcus Roberson Loucheiz Purifoy Craig Loston
  18. Wondered if he'd get drafted. Worth the risk, I think.
  19. Great size also works in Mettenberger's favor, but I prefer Murray too. Overall, I agree with you. Prefer Logan Thomas to any of them, though. Outside of "he's a winner!" there's not a ton to like about McCarron over the other QBs. Solid arm strength, decent size, good accuracy and ok mobility screams solid backup and maybe average starter - there's no real upside there. Nothing wrong with taking him late, but I'd have gone with any of Murray/Thomas/Mettenberger/Shaw/Fales/Boyd/Savage over him. One thing about Mettenberger is that I'd like to see him without the LSU coaching. They always seem to have highly talented QBs there (Russell and Mettenberger especially) but they always have issues. I wonder if it's coaching, scheme or if those two just wouldn't be good no matter what.
  20. I'm ok with Lewan, though I thought the OT depth was enough that we didn't need to go after him in the first. Really wanted Anthony Barr, but with him and Gilbert gone and no surprises falling to us, I didn't have a problem with Lewan at all. He'll replace Roos after this season at LT. In the second round, if we were going to go RB, my preference was Sankey so I'm pretty happy about that. Going with a different position at 2 and then taking Andre Williams in the fourth would've been better, but I like Sankey a lot. Mettenberger was one of three QBs I wanted the Titans to go after - Aaron Murray and Logan Thomas were the other two. I like Mettenberger the least, but really only because of his off the field and health problems. I think he has a real chance to unseat Locker sometime this season, but all a chance to bust completely. Huge arm, prototypical size and decent enough mobility make him a worthwhile pick and I think he has the potential to keep us from having to take a QB in the first round next year. Overall, I'm pretty happy. A few slight issues here and there with who was taken, but I'll trust the FO and new coaching staff until they prove me differently.
  21. RB is a bit of a difficult position for me. The right player can be pretty valuable, but if you don't get the right guy, then you're wasting a pick because so many guys are so interchangeable. Ultimately, a good all-around back like Sankey is worth taking a little higher, but somebody who can only do a couple things really well (guys like Hyde, Hill, Mason, etc) aren't really worth a high pick.
  22. and there he goes Wayne, Hilton, Rogers, Moncrief - good mix of veterans, speed and upside. And Hakeem Nicks. Surprised that the Colts took a reveiver with their other needs, although they probably will need one after next year. It makes me wonder how high they had Moncrief on their board and if they decided they just couldn't pass on him anymore. Oh yeah, keep forgetting the Colts signed Nicks. They may have taken Moncrief for lack of a better option elsewhere - safety was kinda weak and Mewhort apparently can play center (according to Mayock). Could have taken a DT, but there are still a lot of them out there.
  23. I was happy with the Bishop Sankey pick for the Titans. Wasn't crazy about a RB early in the draft because of the depth available and the lack of a true standout (heck, Andre Williams is still around), but most of the real impact guys I wanted were gone and Sankey's got a real chance to be a good all-around RB rather than a specialist. Today, I really want to the see the Titans get Logan Thomas. I love that kid and his upside and could see him developing into a really good QB. Otherwise, we still need a pass rusher and an inside linebacker or two. A safety and/or corner would be nice as well.
  24. Didn't expect this many RBs to be taken before Andre Williams.
