  1. According to xFIP, Westbrook has been better than Lilly over the past few years. Since 2004 Westbrook hasn't had an xFIP over 4.09 and every other one has been below 4.00. He'd be our second best starter immediately unless Z recaptures the 03-05 magic. And Rothschild is an excellent pitching coach who has gotten considerable improvement out of both Dempster and Lilly over the past couple of years and he got a 3.90 xFIP out of Silva last year. If he feels he can work with a pitcher and get improvement out of him, it's worth a look - especially if any improvement from that pitcher means he's the best starter on the staff. Like I said, I'm not in favor of signing a starter and it's not the best usage of our limited cash. But if the options are sign a starter who can be our second best starter or sign a reliever to a 2-3 year deal, I'd prefer the starter.
  2. In all four of my fantasy leagues, I've been targeting the defense that plays the Panthers each week for a while now. That won't change with these injuries.
  3. This is a good sign, I guess:
  4. Nice! Hopefully the videos he did are just a weird, immature type thing and not a sign that he's more interested in youtube than football. Since Dooley has established himself in the job, he's kept the guys mostly in line, so that's a positive.
  5. I don't want them to either, but there are worse ways they can use the money - and if they're dead set on adding pitching, then a Westbrook type and moving a current starter to the pen would be better than spending big on a reliever.
  6. Let me clarify - I'd be ok with signing Westbrook if Rothschild was pretty confident he could turn him into Lilly or close to him. Garland would probably more have the upside of Marquis (even with Rothschild working with him) and I'd be pretty much against adding him. I'd prefer we not add either, but Rothschild is good enough and Westbrook has shown enough stuff when healthy to believe he could become a younger (I think) Lilly. That's better than an innings eater, though it's not a stud either. It's not the best use of funds, but hopefully adding a Westbrook type pitcher would eliminate any desire they have for a reliever (since one of the starters would move to the pen) - which would be a bigger misuse of funds.
  7. Two people I know have both heard Vols. One troll I know of says State, causing me to believe even more that he's a Vol. Tennessee is done at WR if this is true. Thanks. Being done at WR with Arnett makes sense. That'll give us Da'Rick, Z Rogers, Justin Hunter and Arnett as our top receivers, plus Milton if he doesn't move to TE. That's some solid top-end talent at WR.
  8. Of [expletive] course we are. Hendry sees Lilly/Marquis part deux. If Rothschild can turn either into Lilly, I'd be fine with the signing. Westbrook seems like he might have that potential, Garland is probably more similar to Marquis. I wouldn't be in favor of the signing, but I wouldn't hate it either.
  9. I could be wrong, but I don't think the Yankees have one of the better farm systems in baseball. In fact, I think it's pretty mediocre. They're above average based on the upside of some of their players, but they're currently lacking depth. Their farm system has improved in the past few years thanks to increased spending in the draft and their increased pursuit of big names in Latin America. They have one of the top prospects in the minors in C Jesus Montero along with a few more guys who'll get Top 100 consideration. Thanks. I knew about Montero, but thought he was their only really high level prospect (top 100 worthy).
  10. VolCub, DeAnthony Arnett is apparently announcing his decision tomorrow night. I've heard he's likely to commit to Tennessee, but do you have any info on which way he's leaning?

  12. Well crap. Not surprising in the least, but I was hoping he'd block more (and better) when he was happy.
  13. This is a good point. Like I said, I've never focused on what kind of a blocker Moss is, but my hope is that he'll at least put some effort into it because CJ isn't the type of runner who always runs to the direction of the playcall. Moss has always had the reputation of not blocking, but I wasn't sure if that was primarily just when he was unhappy or if he was just a poor/indifferent blocker on every play.
  14. It'll mean more for the Titans than most teams because we're reliant on CJ making big plays – and many of his big plays come on cutback runs. If those cutback lanes are filled, it makes it more difficult for us to score. Obviously Moss was brought in for his deep threat ability and to pull an extra defender out of the box to help out CJ, but it would help if Moss would deliver a few blocks here and there.
  15. I was hoping maybe he'd block some when he was happy. I hadn't really payed that much attention to his blocking at the times when he was happy, so my hope was that his lack of blocking happened primarily when he decided he was unhappy.
  16. LOL you serious? Serious about what? Him blocking or the Titans having a chance to win the Super Bowl if Moss plays?
  17. Randy Moss week! I just hope he doesn't blow up. And that he blocks on CJs runs away from him. That may be too much to ask, but if he does that he has a shot at a ring this year.
  18. The Seahawks and Bucs aren't awful teams and likely aren't much, if any, worse than the Lions. However, as soccer pointed out, the Seahawks really haven't been particularly good this year. Passing yards - rushing yards - opponents' passing yards - opponents' rushing yards Seahawks: 29th - 29th - 30th - 19th Buccaneers: 19th - 19th - 12th - 30th Lions: 8th - 30th - 22nd - 27th And those stats have to be taken with the consideration that Seattle plays in the worst division in the NFL, and it's not close. And other than the Chicago loss where they were legitimately outplayed, the Lions have lost by 3 to Philly, 8 to the Giants, 3 to the Jets (OT) and 2 to the Packers. A couple of breaks and they're around .500 against some pretty good teams. Then look at point differentials: Seahawks: -51 Bucs: -33 Lions: +15 Finally, consider that the Lions have done this primarily with Shaun Hill and Drew Stanton at QB. Stafford has played, basically, 2 full games this year.
  19. To me, the only reason the Lions have a worse record than the Bucs or Seahawks is that the latter two have closed out their close games a little bit better. The Lions lost in OT to the Jets and nearly beat the Bears. Had they won those two, with Stafford missing most of the year, I don't think there's the slightest question the Lions are seen as better than both the Bucs and Seahawks. You can argue the Bucs and Seahaws are better because they've closed out those games, but I don't see any way you can argue both are significantly better than Detroit.
  20. With Stafford in there, I really like the Lions. With Shaun Hill, I still like them. With Drew Stanton, I'm not as crazy about them. That said, I still like them better than the Bucs or Seahawks. They have a +15 point differential, better than any of the teams being discussed here – and significantly so.
  21. Also add to the fact that he only has one more year of team control and if you want to keep him past that you are going to have to commit somewhere around $12-15m annually to him. The lower end of that I could definitely live with. At 15 a year, though, I'd be less enthused.
  22. nebraska w/o taylor martinez isn't all that impressive. iowa state outgained them, out-first downed them and handled them pretty well. How long is Martinez out for?
  23. When they added a couple new bowls a couple years ago, they said that would be a possibility. With that speculation, I'm even more confident a 6-6 Tennessee team is assured a bowl game.
  24. Good to see I wasn't the only one to send a full 32 teams to ElCaballo. I had the Bears 15 and the Rams 19. Lions were 18, Bucs 20 and Seahawks 23 as well. The Detroit, Chicago, St Louis, Tampa, Washington and Seattle group is pretty close to me, though, and I could see any of them rated a little higher than the other.
  25. Why do you have the Lions so far behind the Bucs and Seahawks?
