  1. He deserves to be there, but all this pandering from others and especially Santo himself has likely had the opposite effect it intended to cause by rubbing people the wrong way. With that said, I think the majority of the veteran's committee are a bunch cowardly, egotistical, elitest fucks and unless that player is overwhelmingly good or well-liked by them, they'll do whatever it takes to feel better about themselves by keeping some guys that weren't well liked out of their precious little club.
  2. I still think Stevens should be up here somewhere unless they just want him to get more innings in at Iowa. At this point, I'd rather see Gaub and Stevens over Gregg and Heilman. I was just going based on the current 25 man roster.
  3. When you grade a 50 runner, you have two ways to do it... 1)Time for home to 1st. (4.2 from LH is avg.) 2)60 yd. (6.7 to 6.85 is avg.) If I grade him defensively... you grade him on routes, reads off the bat, footwork, body control, etc. He doesn't have straight-line speed and from what I've seen from him, I don't think he has the range to play CF full-time and since he does show a good read off the bat, that lack of CF'ers range is likely caused by lack of speed/initial burst. Jackson's improved athletic ability and foot-speed is what separates them as far as one projecting as a CF'er and the other as a corner OF'er, with that said, Burke has a slightly stronger arm and a more accurate arm.
  4. He runs down the at 4.23 to 1B from the LH'ed box, that's basically a 50 (avg.) runner.
  5. Guzman-Closer Marmol-Set-up Grabow- 7th inning/late situational lefty Marshall-situational lefty Heilman-who cares Gregg-who cares Caridad-long relief/garbage time.
  6. From what I've seen from him, he's similar to Guyer as far as a corner guy playing CF. I'm glad to see him in RF over Perez (who despite the arm strength-best in organization, lacks speed and takes awful routes). Him, Jackson, and Rundle is quite a defensive OF. Burke is only an avg. runner, so his speed will always hurt as becoming a full-time CF'er.
  7. Agreed, although I think they'll keep him. Riggleman might've earned a job with how he's done.
  8. Ditto and I'm rooting for you as well.
  9. Ouch. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out for next year as far as having 4 picks in the top 2 rounds. They had several overslot guys espec. with Halm and James.
  10. Washington would likely have the 1st and 2nd picks next year, despite the fact they've played much better since Riggleman took over. It's amazing that someone would pass up 20 mil without ever throwing a professional pitch. Sign for 20 mil, set yourself and your family up for life and then use what you'll likely make the remainder of your career to uprade what you already have.
  11. Logan White and Kim Ng say hello. Logan White is the best GM prospect and if they were to replace Hendry, he would be the only one on my list. Hendry was once a top notch farm director too. It's questionable how well the two skills translate. Everything I've seen about Logan White's philosophy is that he has a better approach on what it takes to build a successful ballclub moreso than Hendry.
  12. Unless he was dead-set on going to college, he would have to be out of his mind to pass up that money.
  13. I'll be up in Green Bay/Door County tonight watching GB tonight & antique shopping tomorrow in Door County... ](*,) Damn I want to see Cutler.
  14. He's had a much better year IMO and has gone from a late defensive replacement/5th OF'er to a 4th OF'er capable of spot-starting at all 3 OF spots. His biggest improvement has been his increased ability to put the ball into play as well as his ability to avoid hitting in bad counts as his PAs with 2 strikes in down significantly, with his aggressive apporach this is key, IMO. We'll see if he can take that next step and con't to progress at the plate by getting better pitches to hit, using all fields, and staying out of bad counts combined with his plus defensive abilities to become a legit starting CF'er at some point. He has the bat speed but that his swing can still get long and hit lazy fly-balls to RF instead of staying back, shortening that swing, and going gap to gap.
  15. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124966930911615069.html WSJ article on foreign born ballplayers with an emphasis on Lee.
  16. As far as Hendry making that claim of a front end starter or a closer, that's a very high claim on Cashner's stuff. Right there he's saying that Cashner has two plus pitches (70FB, 60+ SL) with a 50 CH to be considered a top of the rotation guy and at least that 70FB and 60+ SL to be a closer.
  17. There's nothing wrong with it, I was just picking out everything I could. Gotcha. That was hitting a little too close to home; a white-t and jeans is standard casual fair for me. You go slim shady...
  18. Logan White and Kim Ng say hello. Logan White is the best GM prospect and if they were to replace Hendry, he would be the only one on my list. Chris Antonetti belongs on the list too... but I'd prefer White. Antonetti will replace Shapiro when Shapiro gets promoted in about 1-2 years.

  20. Agreed, Sox fans have taken too much crap for Ligue and other things from Cubs fans and those who do that are idiots as well. It doesn't have stopping points only designated towards Cubs' fans stereotypes.
  21. No, it was completely idiotic. If they could ban that douche for life from Wrigley, I would be content. It is ironic that one idiot's actions can be followed by other morons trying to lump this as the avg. representation of Cubs fans. Yes, if you do that you are a moron just like the guy who threw the beer is.
  22. That's his annual award, yet he keeps getting overlooked for any managerial job b/c he hasn't made it to the recycling bin. My fav. managerial prospect is still Matt Walbeck.
  23. Nothing at Iowa either, which isn't a surprise given that roster. Notice who's the top managerial prospect from the IL, someone who you know I like as a future manager and a UCLA alum.
  24. Ironically, the ability to be clutch is the ability to maintain your level of play rather than raising it to match the situation. From there, it often depends on your talent as well as what the opposition is doing. Pujols in '05 wasn't clutch against Lidge, he's the best "maybe clean" hitter I've ever seen hitting a hanging slider 900 ft. Give that pitch to Joey Gathright, he probably singles thru the box. Most hitters w/power knock the hell out of the ball. Did Lidge feel the pressure? Maybe... best hitter in the game, 2 strike count, going for the perfect slider and has the opposite effect, but it could've been just a bad pitch as many slider hang and get banged. The Cubs felt the pressure the last two postseasons, they're aware of everything that surrounds the 101 years of losing. They feel fan pressure, every Spring and once the post-season starts they get asked questions about the drought, Boston felt it as well and they handled it well. I don't think Boston raised their game after being down 0-3 to NYY, but they didn't press either. Of course, they had the talent to take 4 in a row vs. NYY and 4 vs. a very good STL team. There's no doubt in my mind that players do care about their fans in this city.
  25. PH'ing Miles with bases loaded while Fukudome is on the bench....
