  1. No, worst of the bunch so far. Been fortunate to be on some great teams.
  2. I barely voted no for Gossage and I rate Gossage ahead of Smith as far as who deserves to go to the HoF. Besides having an amazing ability to make my grandfather swear at the TV, no it is.
  3. One of the main reasons why Goose had such a great year was b/c of the H/IP allowed. If he can produce a 465 ERA+ and have the others remain consistent, either his others stats were great to begin with or the BAA was amazing. He had very good numbers as far as BB/IP, K/IP, and HR/IP throughout, but the main reason why he had the great year over his previosu years has the BAA. He deserves credit for it, if you're comparing his BAA to the rest of his career, what validity does it have when we're only talking about one season and not a career?
  4. Easily deserves it, there are players in the HoF that he deserves to be ahead of.
  5. You're preaching to the choir, I said the same things about Jones after he was inked.
  6. You might be right, he might've outgrown SS by then, when I seen him up at KC, I thought he had the ability to stick at SS despite being very raw.
  7. Gossage shouldn't be punished for IP since it was a strike year. That ERA+ of 465 to me outweighs the higher strikeouts of Gagne. I think a lower H/IP ratio shouldn't be weighed as heavily as far as being a predictor of future success (see Howry), but for the season it's some stat that shouldn't be counted. That 465 didn't come from good luck.
  8. The most versitile player in Baseball history. Martin Dihigo Combining his Dominican, American, Cuban and Mexican statistics results in a lifetime .302 batting average with 130 home runs (11 seasons worth of home run totals are missing) and a 218-106 (.673) pitching mark.
  9. You're right about Eck's 1990 season, but Gagne doesn't have a year that can compare to Gossage in '81.
  10. The career numbers (minor league) of Steve Dalkowski, to go with that lack of control, he is the hardest thrower of all-time. Nothing like standing in there w/a pitcher who could hit 105 and not know where it's going.
  11. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/cs-051223rogers,1,1089061.column?coll=cs-home-utility Zambrano Perez Patterson Ohman Hill/Guzman for... Tejada Penn/Maine/Loewen Borchard Majewski/Florentino/Markakis Rogowski Munoz I like the idea of getting rid of Perez. :)
  12. Just curious, did Miguel Cabrera come up as a shortstop and was then moved to 3B/OF at the major league level? Because I don't think he's ever actually played SS in a major league uniform aside from 3 innings at the position during the 2003 NLCS. He came up thru the minors as a SS, when we at AA before getting called up, he played SS. Florida has always had Alex Gonzalez at SS until this year. I think he'd be able ro get thru growing pains of not having played the position in quite some time and be adequate. It would definitely be worth a shot. He didn't stop playing SS b/c he couldn't handle it.
  13. Domestic. But, I take no pride in driving a product made in the USA, it definitely did not factor into the decision.
  14. Best single season for a reliever ever, but like Truffle said, several great years combined with several mediocre years. I voted no as well.
  15. No... Numbers aren't there, playing in Montreal eliminated any chance for that great athlete.
  16. Cabrera and put him back at SS, he might be avg. (at best) during his peak defensively at SS and might struggle after the layoff, but his body should be able to still have the quickness and hands to get the job done. I still think he has the ability to play SS and the difference between a 3B and SS is enough for me.
  17. Side note: Encarnacion was about 30 points higher in '05 (.330s) than his career (.301). If BABIP in '05 was .301 his numbers would've been... .261/.326/.419 straight OPS of .745 or an adjusted OPS of .731.
  18. He's hit better outdoors than indoors over his career, I don't put much validity into daytime/night-time stats, either. I assume as the more he plays during the day, the more his body will react properly. If he struggles, it won't be b/c of playing in the day.
  19. The question arises... Spivey or Luna? Both are RH'ed so a platoon is eliminated. I'd probably start Luna and let Spivey hit his way into a starting spot or let Luna hit his way out of the starting spot.
  20. It's a valid stat though. BABIP is one of the more fluky stats as far as flucuation.
  21. Either I've been drinking or I'm looking for silver linings... (both) Jacque Jones has a career batted balls in play avg. of .321, last year he had a miserable .281. If you took the .321 and applied it into his numbers last year instead of his .281. His numbers would've looked like... 523 ABs 145AB 25DB 5TR 23HRs .277/.345/.476 .821 straight OPS or a .826 adjusted OPS.
  22. Well, I am not glad if it means Prior is a goner though. I don't think it is a Prior or Pie scenario, Pie isn't the reason why this deal is or isn't getting done. I think it's a Prior and Pie, if the Cubs wanted to include Prior and Pie, that deal would've been done.
  23. I'm glad Hendry appears to be unwilling to trade their best prospect by a significant margin. I assume most GMs would do likewise.
