  1. More or less wise than spending $3m on a swingman for the rotation? Or spending $3m on a utility IF? About the same, they're all examples of spending poorly.
  2. For 3mil, I think he's too expensive to rot on the bench behind Mabry, 2nd behind Mabry on the corner OF spots, and be the 2nd LH'ed option off the bench. I'd rather see someone like Hidalgo (not that Marrero is not an option) be given a chance to play the corner OF spots, provide power from the R side, and have Hairston play an emergency or spot start in CF. It's not wise to spend 3mil on a 5th OF'er.
  3. Offensively, I think the difference between what Pierre will provide over what the Cubs had last year would be about 1.8 wins. Offensively, the Cubs having Walker starting at 2B and hitting 2nd compared to Perez doing the same is about 3 wins. The Cubs would likely cost themselves 3 wins having Perez hitting 2nd everyday over Walker. The defensive advantages of Perez over Walker, couldn't even come close to making up that difference. I don't expect Walker to hit as well as he did last year and I don't expect Perez to hit as "well" as he did last year. I expect Walker to have an OPS in the upper 7s and Perez in the mid 6s.
  4. I don't think Wellemeyer or Patterson will be on the Cubs once the season starts. I think you can make a case for Walker as well. I can't see roster spots prohibiting the Cubs when it comes to improving the team.
  5. If he can trade Patterson w/out giving up any cash and get a lower level prospect for him, it would be better than non-tendering him. Of course, the demand will likely be slim. 4 teams being interested in Patterson is different than 4 teams bidding against each other to get him.
  6. The only one with any chance of hitting w/pop off the bench is Restovich, who reminds me of a slightly worse version of Dubois. A one year 750K minor league contract??? Meanwhile, the Cubs will likely have Grissom and Hairston as the main RH'ed options off the bench. I hope Hendry hasn't settled for the bench in its current state, b/c it'll be terrible once again.
  7. http://www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_3381852 750K? The Cubs need a RH'ed bat off the bench w/pop, if they used more objective thinking, they would more likely look for a RH'ed platoon partner w/Jones. Instead, they focus on the overspending of Jones and his contract amount and might not do what's best for the team and get someone who can hit LH'ers. That 750K... Is less than what Macias made last year.
  8. I'm not talking about what Hairston will do at leadoff next year, I'm talking about what he did last year. I'm talking about the upgrade from leadoff hitter of '05 to the leadoff hitter of '06 (Pierre). It's not about a Hairston/Pierre debate for leadoff hitter for '06.
  9. But, it doesn't take away the fact of what did Hairston did last year at leadoff last year. In 44% of the time, the Cubs had someone who got on base at a similar ratio as to what we'll expect from Pierre.
  10. It depends on the situation. I think the upgrade between Pierre and who the Cubs had in CF will be about 1.8 wins higher than last year. I that difference will be higher than what the Cubs had at leadoff last year as Hairston led the team in leadoff PAs and what he did as getting on base last year. Last year, Hairston had 44.4% of the ABs leading off and had an OBP of .344, I think Pierre will likely be between .344 and .350. Any offensive upgrade at leadoff will be destroyed by having Neifi hitting 2nd, if they decide to go that route.
  11. Who's rooting for who between Jax and NE? I want all of the lesser teams to win besides the Bears, I'm rooting for the Jags.
  12. For once, I agree with the ESPN crew that Taylor should be suspended for next week's game.
  13. Too much Salmon talk tonight.... Think the Cubs could have Salmon as the RH bat off the bench? :)
  14. The hired decorator wanted a theme room, that was in the library filled with books loaded w/dust on them.
  15. It was a punt return and he leveled the punter, just destoyed him. While the play was now about 20 yds. down the field, he decides to hit the punter who was either still on the ground or just getting up. He looked like a B**** on the play, picking on a punter.
  16. I had a serious dislike for Lavar dating back to his Penn St. days. I remember him taking a cheap shot vs. a punter and I haven't forgotten.
  17. Same here. I think the Bears match up better vs. the Giants moreso than a rematch vs. Carolina.
  18. Seattle will do a number on the Redskins.
  19. I don't see Simms taunting anyone now.
  20. Looks like we'll have to watch NYG/Carolina to find the Bears next opponent. I think Urlacher can shut down Barber, especially out of the backfield. I think the Bears can move the ball against the Giants D as well. That Carolina team will be angry.
  21. That's tough, I that it was incomplete.
  22. Simms does that idiotic crap vs. the Bears, he'll get destroyed.
  23. Neither scored much against the Bears, of course the Bears didn't score much either. That defense will be pumped, I can't wait for Brown to get back on the field. 1st time all year, all the starters will be out there.
  24. Once TB called TO, it should've been a FG.
  25. TB coming back, Simms looks like he does not like 55 degree weather. Unfort., this Winter has been warm except for early to mid December. In order, I'd rather see the Bears play TB, NYG, and Carolina.
