  1. I think Pie will able to put the ball into play more like Soriano than Patterson did his final two years. I believe Soriano has been able to keep it above .350, as Patterson did in '03.
  2. What does have to work on? His delivery? If they want to overhaul or tweek his delivery, that's only thing I can see. But, if they keep him there just to make sure he is healthy, that makes no sense. Of course, ask any pitching coach and you really can't successfully make many adjustments to a pitcher's mechanics during the season, that's done during instrux. I've always hated this stance, it's ridiculous. Every situation they're involved with deserves questioning rather than passive accepting. I'm glad I question everything the Cubs do and try to look at it from every angle, you learn more from the game that way.
  3. Does anyone else see A. Soriano w/less pop?
  4. Having healthy pitchers is never a bad thing. Why does Reyes have to be the one at AAA? What does he have to prove at AAA? Why can't Ponson or go Marquis go to the pen? It's a bad thing when you restrict the talent and future progression of someone as gifted as Reyes, especially when there are lesser talent and less potential impact players like Marquis and Ponson ahead of him. It's stupid to waste a year of his career at AAA, when he's ready for the majors.
  5. That's very good news as he did get drained from physical fatigue moreso than arm fatigue more times than not. I doubt weight loss has much to do w/velocity, but if his condition program has improved, hopefully his strength program has improved as well.
  6. Do you not remember what Marquis said about not being in the post-season rotation? The comment he made about it were extremely selfish and he is prone to big innings. Like Simontacchi of a couple years ago, he got by on smoke and mirrors last year. Look at his DIPS era and you'll see what I mean. His numbers were not impressive to me, just fortunate the Cards have a very good infield defense rather than his actual pitching abilities. You didn't mention Marquis, I did.
  7. Still not worth that salary and the Cubs probably have just as many questions of him sticking at 2B as everyone else does. You can trade Koronka for Soriano and he'll still get paid 10mil, which is way too much, even with the Cubs and that's before considering they already have Walker and (to a lesser extent) Hairston on the roster .
  8. Straight-up, give me Soriano over Walker. But... 10 mil, the players req'd to get him, and Soriano is not worth the desire for that improvement.
  9. It depends on pitching "well" and your definition of it. Is he pitching well enough to keep Reyes in the minors or is he pitching well enough to put Marquis in the pen? He and Marquis would have to pitch extremely well to waste a year of Reyes at AAA. He'd have to pitch better than Marquis to merit pitching in the rotation? Btw, when did Marquis become the Gotti of the Cards' rotation? What has done to become a fixture in the rotation over Reyes? He's a selfish player who has had trouble focusing during points in many games he pitched in last year. You don't give up all those big innings w/out losing focus. If Ponson defeated the odds and pitched well enough to make the rotation, I would rather see Reyes in the rotation over Marquis. Of course, I;d still rather see Reyes over Ponson. You don't think Reyes could surpass the numbers of Marquis last year? If Ponson duplicated the numbers of Marquis, would that be considered a good season?
  10. I'd question the Cards faith in him as a starter if Ponson is the #5 over him. If they have questions about his health and his poor delivery, they could ponder whether his delivery is more suited in the pen rather than the rotation, which would be a poor move from this angle. Nothing close-minded about it, Reyes is a very gifted young pitcher and Ponson is a project. To me, Reyes' health concerns are not as severe as Ponson's obesity, work ethic, baseball IQ, and drinking problems of the past
  11. Meh, Reyes is overrated. Let the best pitcher win the 5th spot, if that is Ponson than so be it. If Reyes is outpitched by Ponson, some stars will have aligned in a form I have never seen before. At this stage, it's all spec. but I can't see Ponson even coming close to outpitching Reyes.
  12. Why? Look at Oswalt's deal after the same amount of service time. He signed a two year deal worth 16.9mil. Did inflation go up that much? I don't think so. He could get a deal like the one Santana rec'd of 4 years at 40mil, but to equate it to him leaving based on years is incorrect to put it mildly.
  13. If he didn't cork his bat or leave the last game of '04 before it ended, I would say yes. That's before steroid speculations, which will likely be the main reason he might not get in on the 1st ballot.
  14. Wow, I think it's a bad move going with a 4 man rotation with all the off days, that the off days are an asset and should be treated as such for the staff to gradually get into the grind of the season. A 3 man rotation is just asking to burn out the staff sooner rather than later.
  15. I don't think that's true though I'm not sure. I tried snowboarding once but it was too annoying to go back to being a beginner. That bowl is great if the snow and light are good. I like Palli's though that falls into quick exhaustion category. I was just going by my own experience, even on a green run on a board, I was flying and ready to catch the toe edge. Some reason, it's pure speed on a board and mine is only a 152 or something like that.
  16. I buy both the BP handbook as the well as BA's. I haven't found anything that matches the depth that Baseball America uses in covering its prospects. I use BA for the minors and BP for the pros, despite BP putting its toes into the water as far as mentioning the higher rated prospects from each team.
  17. How is that the best thing? Reyes is ready, he has nothing to prove at AAA. He'll be better than Ponson and Marquis excluding some miracle, he's ready, best pure stuff of all the starters (that includes the FB/curve combo of Carpenter). Does nothing but a waste a year of his career. He pitches 150 innings from April to Sept. and pitches another 35 in 4-5 starts in Sept, he'll be right around that 185-190IP, the same amount a cautious approach at the majors would equate to. He'd be better off getting 95 pitches a start at the majors than 95 pitches at AAA. Either way, he still needs to work on his mechanics and working w/Duncan is better than any AAA pitching coach.
  18. Personally, San Antonio would be a better fit for a MLB team compared to Portland, Charlotte, and Las Vegas.
  19. I wish I had the patience to learn snowboarding, after skiing for more than 15 years, I have no desire to learn it. You do go quicker on a board than skis, at least it appeared that way.
  20. I like to mix it up as well, give me a couple of blacks and mix it up with a blue cruiser or even a green if I'm burnt. Of course, blue runs in Colorado are blacks in the Midwest. At A-Basin, you like that bowl on the left side of the hill as you're looking up at mountain?
  21. Also, I don't see Dunn having as much value in Hendry's or his scouts/associates eyes as many around here have.
  22. Yeah, I can't handle the moguls like that. My knees don't operate like that. After two runs of moguls out west, I'm shot for the rest of the day.
  23. If I didn't try and be so pretty going down the hill, I would try and go faster, but I'd rather keep my knees and boots locked together and turn often. The people I ski with tend to go for more speed rather than style.
  24. Skiing is the only event I really find interesting, not really the moguls, just the super G and downhill. Slalom doesn't interest me too much either.
  25. You're an hour behind me, have you seen the run by Rahlves?
