  1. Can I put Dalkowski's FB as the most devastating? :)
  2. I think Ryan had the best stuff of all time, but he didn't have the ability to control it all the time, which I think of as part of pitching talent. I actually have four modern pitchers in my top 10 of all time in the following order: Clemens Unit Maddux Martinez You might be right that should say stuff. Ryan does have the best stuff of all time. He went from a 100MPH FB, 12-6 curve, great change, later added a slider and splitter.
  3. The most talented hitter of all-time-Mickey Mantle. The most talented pitcher of all-time-Nolan Ryan. Each had their faults as far as why they did not become of all-time despite being the most talented.
  4. Despite it being socially acceptable at the time, like Roger Hornsby, their views towards other races might play a role.
  5. Jimmy Key higher than Drysdale? Terrible. Favorite Pitchers of all-time... Maddux, Drysdale, Feller, Koufax, Gibson, Moyer, and Clemens. Favorite Hitters... Williams, Dimaggio, Ruth, Greenberg, Gwynn, and Olerud. Not the best of all-time, b/c it's one giant debate.
  6. Eh, that should say TE.
  7. I have somewhat shifted my draft philosophy, ideally if Pope is there, he would look very good as the Bears starting WR. I'm not the biggest fan Randle-El and he'll likely be overpaid, but he's a good #2 WR on a team that needs one. At this stage... If everything fell into place. TE OLB DB K FB OT QB Likely in that order.
  8. I still don't know how Ireland did not make the top 32, even Isreal had more prelim. points.
  9. Either option is better than Jones facing LH'ers, which Jones has never shown ability to hit LH'ers. I wouldn't mind Hairston, but he doesn't have the power needed for a corner OF spot and he'll likely be at 2B against LH'ers while Walker gets the day off.
  10. I'd rather see Hidalgo as I think he's younger with a better chance of staying healthy and more productive, but I have no problem with the move. I think Gonzalez is just wound too tight, his injury history isn't one of fluke injuries.
  11. Although it goes against the trend of most of his career, his second half numbers were very bad for his standards.
  12. His mechanics have always been very good at the start of his delivery even after the line drive. Putting his elbows beyond his shoulders was not as pronounced as before. The main thing that changed was the angle of the elbow during the acceleration phase of the delivery.
  13. I've reached my quota of Winter Olympic watching, I'll wait for OLN to broadcast the Skiing world cup and be content with that.
  14. Who said that? Even Prior himself said that after the liner off the arm that his mechanics were out of whack. One of his goals of the offseason was to correct the flaws in his mechanics. He does have flaws in his delivery, don't need to be an expect or a mock expert to point them out. I'll trust my eyes and the knowledge I've accumulated. You watch his elbows after he breaks his hands and gets them parallel w/his shoulder, his elbows are back beyond his shoulder. Some say he has late pronation which puts excess strain on his UCL, which I don't buy. His delivery wasn't the same at the end of the year as it was early on.
  15. Was it unstructured before? I'd kill to see what type of throwing program they were under beforehand.
  16. The shelf life of a SS is different than a 1B, similar to a HB in football compared to a WR. You decline faster at SS as it is a more demanding position, but most importantly, the skills that decline quicker w/age (speed/quickness) are much more important as a SS than 1B. I think Tejada as a SS right now has more value than Lee at 1B, but that could likely change in the near future.
  17. Kerry has had poor mechanics since being drafted, god gave him a great arm and he developed a great and costly way of spinning a breaking pitch early on. If Kerry has refused to adjust his mechanics (not overhaul as that's impossible at his age), it would impact his stature among the Cubs. I don't think Kerry is one that is uncoachable, they just haven't been able to correct his mechanics. Wood also gets into a pattern of improving his mechanics for stretch and falling back to poor mechanics when he gets fatigued. He's been programmed early on to throw w/often w/poor mechanics dating back to his HS days, it's a difficult task to try and work from that premise.
  18. http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/mlb/photo/photogallery/2003_2nd_half_moments/sf/03.jpg Ponson in '03, still out of shape, but not to the point where it has a serious impact on his strong arm. http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/photo/2005/08/03/PH2005080300160.jpg Ponson in August of '05.
  19. That's archaic thinking, you're talking about Ponson, he's definitely not the definition of someone I'd think of as far as being proven at this stage. He's a project. Not giving a younger pitcher a chance is the reason why STL gave up too much to get Mulder.
  20. Randy Johnson has one of the better deliveries in baseball as well, but age has caught up to him.
  21. Maddux is the closest to perfection, but you strive for perfection regardless of the inability to obtain it. Prior has a chicken-wing delivery. He has flaws that can lead to a higher injury rate under a higher workload. As a PC, one of your goals is to maintain the health of a pitcher and improving mechanics is one of the ways to turn around the injury pattern of a pitcher, although Prior has only had one injury caused by faulty mechanics. But, Prior was "off" last year mechanically. People get blinded by the smoothness of his delivery and he starts his motion very well, but to maintain a clean bill of health, he has some things to work on. Ever watch Byrd's delivery? It's a slightly less torqued version of Prior's, similar ease of pitching, but a long history of arm problems.
  22. Well you're right, he's totally at risk to take another line drive off the elbow, or to collide on the basepaths with a midget second baseman. There are some flaws w/Prior's mechanics, there are some things he does very well w/his delivery and some things that need to be fixed.
  23. Eh, don't get semantical with me. :) I looked it up and Soriano's career BABIP is right about .309. But, I see Pie having a BABIP closer to .333 than .270.
  24. Patterson in '03, had 85 non-HR hits in 239 times he put the ball into play. Patterson in '05, had 84 non HR hits in 320 times he put the ball into play.
  25. BABIP
