  1. They do, there's some question whether HGH testing can be valid. It has to be done thru blood and the athlete has to use it a day so before testing so it can register. In '08, they'll have it so it can detect HGH if the athlete has used it for a couple of weeks. MLB and the NFL are waiting for urine test to detect HGH.
  2. I think people are putting too much into his hot start, if he is hitting .210 relegated to the bench b/c he is striking out 1 of every 3 times, this story doesn't have the same wings. Look at his teammate, Branyan, he started out his career w/Clev. on fire and once they learned how to pitched him a couple of times thru the League, he's been a journeyman player.
  3. Sure, you can workout longer, harder, and recover quicker which will you make stronger. There's no doubt a person who uses HGH and works out will achieve more than someone who just works out.
  4. you're right...mlb should step in and disqualify the cardinals from the 2007 season because he got hgh shipments in 2005 and some guy on a message board says ankiel allegedly used coke like eight years ago (and because they don't "deserve" it). let's just see if mlb can mandate a division title for the cubs while we're at it. the whining in this thread would be hilarious if it weren't so pathetic. Whatever. More of your ultra-sarcastic B.S. I couldn't care less. There are plenty of other things that could be done. How about a suspension, or at least an actual investigation of Ankiel? But hey, don't let that stop you from acting like a dick. How can you suspend him when HGH was allowed at the time? If there's a witchhunt as far as HGH and Ankiel, you have to do so w/all of the MLBPA. Which I'm fine by as I'd love to see Olympic style testing but neither the PA or Selig/owners truly want.
  5. Could that guy throw hard or what? Do they actually know what he hit? There was no way to tell back then, some experts believe his FB was between 105-110MPH.
  6. I thought part of HGH is that you could have a better workout and be able to continue doing so because of the recovery time? The 3 things it helps most with an athlete: Increase energy and stamina Build muscle and strength, improve fitness Accelerate healing
  7. The only time it becomes a problem is when it is not a FB and it is not in their hitting zone and they swing away. If it's a FB and it's where they want it, swing away, you might not see one there the rest of the game. I only get mad when it's an off-speed/breaking pitch (unless hanging) or it's at the letters, below the knees, or on the corners. If that pitcher is struggling with command and it becomes a get me over FB, drive that ball.
  8. Look at the bodies of Clemens vs. Ryan. Ryan was someone with legendary workout rotuine and the shape of his body showed. Clemens is a diff. story, while his supposed workout schedule rivals Ryan, his ass can barely fit thru a doorway, if you have that workout schedule, you should be able to wear less than size 38 pants. As far as Ankiel, I respect what he has done especially where he has come from and unless something else comes up, no one will likely ever know. At the expense of greater negative pub towards Ankiel, I hope this would lead to HGH testing in the future, which unfort. puts chemists in a race to create something undetectable.
  9. Steve Dalkowski if he had control.
  10. He said he discussed it with all the scouts that were there (about 12-15). This particular one I have not seen this year, I get to sit in these seats about 10 games a year. But I did over hear someone say that he was a former White Sox pitcher who had his career ended short by a rotator cuff injury and that he has written 2 books on pitching. He was probably mid-40s. If anyone can figure out who he is from that, then god bless. I didn't recognize him. Larry Monroe? He's in charge of Major League Scouting for them. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/photo/exe_mugs/l-monroe.jpg That is absolutely him. Larry Monroe He's a hell of a guy, prob. the best HS pitcher to come out of the Chicagoland area. Mulder is from the area but didn't take the next step until MSU.
  11. What are you trying to measure here, how productive he was or how effective was?
  12. Kal Daniels was an outstanding hitter before the injuries just ruined him. Also, Glenn Davis with the Stros was good as well. Another Davis I remember a little but had to look to make sure... Alvin Davis.

  14. I'm ready for Uk to go to 2-0 vs. teams they should beat, I'd pick UK by 14 at this stage.
  15. I always thought Robin Yount got more hype than what he deserved.
  16. Pedro Guerrero, Kent Hrbek, and most underrated of my youth... Al Oliver.
  17. Red Sox fans would need to bust on Schraldi 1st. Look at his postseason numbers...
  18. Beyond the injuries, they did include a likely change in organizational philosophy as well. At the beginning of '03, I think they were just trying to get this team some experience to make their run in '05 and beyond. Obviously, the window of opportunity opened quicker than anyone had imagined before the season started. But, I don't see a change in philosophy occuring if the Cubs make the playoffs and have any success unlike '03 into '04.
  19. Clemens is one of the prime examples of the last 20 years, he's not wired like Maddux, Glavine, etc., he's more high strung and beyond the Piazza incident of the '00 WS, he's pitched well when the chips are down and not done anything to hurt the team by losing his cool. Zambrano still needs to prove to me at least, he has that balance of being able to control his emotion in high pressure situations. That doesn't mean that I think he's not a hell of a pitcher or I wish he was another team, but it's something he'll likely to have improve on. It's not an all or nothing situation as some might be trying to indicate... Yes, I'm frustrated by his collaspe yesterday and his comments afterwards and I think he needs to improve on keeping his composure in games like this. But, I'm glad he's a Cub and believe he will con't to be a productive player overall and I would not boo him in that situation.
  20. You can have it both ways, there aren't many pitchers out there with his talent and it appears he is his own worst enemy at times, yesterday just happened to be what appears to be a crucial time in the season. People are combining composure with emotions, you can be emotional and still maintain the composure to be effective out there. I don't care if he's emotional out there (although, I think he's showing up the opponent many times) if he keeps his composure.
  21. I'm glad Rolen wasn't on the list, he's one of my fav. players in baseball.
  22. It's one thing to be emotional, it's another to let your emotions get to you. Unfort., his amped mental state often brings out the worst in him. He just lacks composure out there.
  23. You can't put him in a spot in the order to hide him from hitting with runners on, it's not practical now. Soriano will likely always leadoff and Murton has been one the best hitters over the past two months, I'd trust Murton up with RISP right now over everyone except prob. Lee and Ramirez right now. Next year, I don't care about at this time. You're using career stats to try and justify moves over the next 30 days, if he only stays hot for the next 10 days and he's in a position to produce, his impact for those 10 days will matter more than any other possible managerial move.
  24. Did I say the bolded part? Recent trends mean more for the short-term ala 30 days than they do for next year. If you're talking about over the course of an entire season say '08, I would put more validity into what they've over their career factoring age, health, salary etc. into the equation as to which one would provide more production.
  25. Based on RH splits, sure Murton would nec. be guaranteed a starting spot over Floyd, despite 11 points of OPS is a minimal amount. Of course, for a stretch run, I'd feel more confident with the hot hand for that final run. To be honest, Floyd hasn't been as productive since the loss of his father and Murton has had a very good past two months. For me... A hitter with a clip of .310/.372/.563 just under the last two months will likely outproduce a hitter with .266/.348/.354 over that same time frame for the next 30 days. Especially when the previous split was .734 vs. .723. Given how well Murton has done over the past two months, I'd start him till he cooled off. I'd say the same thing if it was Monroe or Floyd if they were hitting that well. But some have agendas here and let bias towards players get in the way.
