  1. Yes, I've never seen any criticism here on any of the Cubs contracts. Like most here, I'm extremely upset the Cubs didn't go 5/60. :)
  2. The only time a team can validate overpaying for a closer is when that is likely the missing piece. Obviously, the Reds have some holes especially the btm half of the rotation (minus Bailey, Harang, and Arroyo). They need a front end starter and have the bats to acquire one via trade since none are avail. via FA. A closer becomes less valuable on a team that several holes, smaller payroll, and 2 starters and other parts of the pen not likely to be considered shut-down anytime soon.
  3. There's no guarantee that Cedeno won't be traded or that Infante or more likely Fontenot make the team or be traded as well. I think Lou likes players that can play multiple positions despite the fact they have several players capable of playing the middle IF. If they grade Matsui/Infante higher than Cedeno/Fontenot, the difference in $ is worth it for the upgrade in production (even in a part-time role). I don't nec. agree or disagree with that thought process, but I think that is the likely reasoning.
  4. If part of the reasoning of going after Matsui is leverage for Fukudome (which I doubt), at least go for Iguchi who is a better player than Matsui.
  5. I think Baseball America has this wrong as he is on the Rays 40 man roster.
  6. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/larrystone/2004026475_stone21.html Good to see that his health is fine enough to throw again and exert energy without chest pains.
  7. Why? He's pitched his heart out for the Cubs. He was likely more by others teams but he choose to be a Cub, he's been extremely loyal to the Cubs despite more losing seasons than winning ones.
  8. Damn, I'm slow today. He'd make a heck of a 4th/5th OF'er. Right now, it appears that Murton will that role though. http://minors.baseball-reference.com/players.cgi?pid=12747
  9. While it's true that they stood by him after being suspended, it's a HUGE stretch to say that he was "loved" on the field as a teammate. It's the only time they could tolerate him, especially early on.
  10. See what you caused Bruno. (btw, where did Alex Meyer commit to? That's right-UK) Cobb was a racist with an awful temper, loved on the field as a teammate (team stood by him after being suspended) and hated off the field.
  11. What type of FA is he? (besides marginal)
  12. My final comparison... Bruno=DaveMason
  13. Yep, thats me. Get a lot of glory at the JV level Ping.... I'm sure that works with the ladies.
  14. Bruno= glory-whore. Not too surprising that he would go back to NY.
  15. Cedeno could probably be had for a marginal prospect at this point. Quite a collection of marginal middle infielders.
  16. http://blogs.tampabay.com/breakingnews/2007/11/rays-planning-w.html Definitely potential good news for TB fans.
  17. Better looking unis, it's drawing some pub, and hopefully some increased merchandise sales.
  18. I consider Kontos (depending on his injury) as a def. sleeper prospect in the Yanks system.
  19. I agree, but I've been saying that for 2-3 years now. First with the Gomes/Baldelli/Kazmir/Crawford incarnation and now the Young/Dukes/Longoria one. They'll make the playoffs for sure in 2009 or 2010. I know Callis keeps banging the Rays in the WS in 2010 drum, I wouldn't go that far, though. Longoria/Price/McGee/Davis/Brignac is the best top 5 minor leaguers in any farm system in baseball. Sheesh. #1 overall next year as well.
  20. A good move by the Rays.
  21. every year this happen in high school to a kid Bingo.
  22. You should either be the greatest coach in HS history or the worst. :) Is this the 14 day rest plan not including snow days?
  23. UK is a hell of a comeback away from beating Gardner-Webb at home. If they end up losing, it'll be the worst home loss I can remember. They've been outplayed, outhustled, and outmuscled.
  24. That would be correct, so far he's been an ideal person/teammate.
  25. It's not the same thing, but 700sqft studio in a luxury building with a view are probably going to fetch $1m+ in most of Manhattan. It's not the space that people are paying for, it's the location. I completely understand why some people would find value in such a place. Anybody hear about that utility closet in London that fetched something like half a million GBP? The location between the Trump tower and that one is about 4 blocks and probably a worse view in the Trump building especially facing NE on the lower levels which gives you views of Michigan Ave. instead of the lake.
