    AA has been impressive the last two weeks. Harrison will be the best player on the interior of the defensive line next season unless Tommie Harris recovers to pre-injury 2006 form. Harrison has the most talent, it's up to him to take that next step. Both should be ahead of Dvorcek. Hester is impressing me, he might end up being that #2 WR.

    Get Dukes as well as and the heart of the '06 AAA Durham squad is back, that squad is legendary in minor league circles for all the wrong reasons. And the best part is none of their problems can come close to the problems of their "could have been" teammate, Josh Hamilton. Toe Nash as well.

    Dukes by himself was more than enough. You throw one little bat at an umpire, and all of a sudden you've got an "attitude problem"... sheesh. Young as a teammate is supposed to be a good guy, his teammates on that durham squad never had a problem with him and the media stuff concerning him was overblown.

    Seriously? How about asking some scouts Lou? You mean Hughes should be asking the pro scouts, Hughes should relay it to Hendry and Hendry should pass it onto Lou. Or just have Hendry or more likely one of his assistants look up his scouting report from the database.

    No mention of the UK vs. ECU Liberty Bowl yet? ECU is the better team, hopefully UK can do better than it has of late with Hartline back at QB. (off-subject) Snood, the subject of Mangino came up today at a baseball showcase, one of the rumors was that he has to have a shower in his office b/c he is unable to wipe himself. Now, I don't believe it, but the person saying this (who I do respect) says this comes from a credible source.

    As the Cubs talk to SD about Peavy, I wish would they mention the name of Scott Hairston as well, who appears to be the odd man out in SD with Headley in LF, Giles in RF, and Gerut/Venables in CF. Hairston would be a nice fit as the starting CF'er or a platoon partner in RF.

    I find the Cubs to be entertaining as far as Chirinos. He's been in the organization for 8 years has over 2000ABs in A-ball alone and has converted him into a C where he's likely going to be a utility guy at AA again. At some point, they're better off transitioning him into some sort of roving IF instructor, scout, and/or future manager as it appears he obviously as qualities that they value beyond developmental skills that worth having him stick around. I haven't seen since he was at Low-A even as a plus defender with a strong arm, he still has to have leadership qualities to still be with the organization this long and maybe that would be better utilized in a management type role.

    As Meph mentioned the Cubs need guys around who can eat some innings and Marquis has a rubber arm and production as a #5 which are the qualities the Cubs need. For the Cubs rotation it looks like they are after, he doesn't have a role but for teams with lesser rotations (if they acq'd Peavy) he has more value for other teams looking to be a #5 starter with 180+IP. I've never considered him to be a nice guy based on his actions of the past, crying about not making the post-season roster in STL as well as not being able to co-exist with Duncan and Mazzone. You prob. have to ask B. Miles from a media standpoint, but I found him to be a very selfish player based on his past actions.

    Personally, I think STL would be better off with Duncan in LF & Rasmus in CF and Johnson at 2B compared to Ludwick in RF and Kennedy at 2B. Of course, if they could lock up Durham for about 2yr at 4 per, him and Ludwick would be better than any of those combos even with the additional 4 mil.

    They could've got that with Bartlett as well and probably get a guy with an EqA of .255-.260, OPS+ around 85 with similar defensive skills for less money per year. The next question would be is Bartlett and the 4 mil. or so better than Greene and to me... he is.

    There was plenty of bad luck he ran into, obviously you don't have that LD% and that low BABIP w/out bad luck. It's hard to tell what was a fluke with him. I think his 53 BBs his rookie year were a fluke, the 27 HRs and 44 DBs in '07 were a fluke (prob. closer to 20HRs and 35DBs), and all of '08 was a fluke.

    Sure, but you can't ignore the regression he had the plate last year. Obviously, the position he plays adds a premium to his offensive which pre-'08 were above avg. for a SS and did so even with a poor approach at the plate. It went from bad to awful last year, even with his quick hands and line drive stroke, he's still not good enough to put up similar road numbers expanding his zone the biggest jump was with the off-speed junk from lefties, his strike zone regressed against pitchers, counts, types of pitches, etc. He's not gifted enough with the bat to try and mimic Soriano and his approach for much of '08 wasn't much diff. than when Soriano is struggling.

    I have him pegged at .245/.300/.440 about that or so. Which will prob. be around 93-95 OPS+, EqA between .260-.265, which is right on par for his career. His regression with his already bad plate discipline and 6-7 fewer games at Coors will largely off-set much of the expectations applied to his career road splits.

    1st off, don't use that tone with me. You show me where I acted like a smart-ass towards you and then I'll merit your snide remark. If not, save it for someone who wants to put up with petty BS, I don't. 2nd, it is still quite possible that Abreu will get 12 mil. once this FA ball starts rolling, espec. when the Cubs and Mets are involved in the bidding. These are two unwilling to follow collusion tactics and would rather outbid by blowing away offers rather than get involved in a bidding war ala Soriano and Beltran.

    Marquis and Marshall? Maybe? I'm still crossing my fingers that JH brings Wood back. He would make all the difference, wouldn't he? Since the Cubs non-tendered him, he can't be signed till May. MLB updated that rule in the latest agreement. They still have a window to sign him. Eh, I hate changes. Man, even I knew that Ping. I'm definitely not a baseball savant.
