  1. And his sub 200 batting average?
  2. At today's West michigan whitecaps vs Burlington bees game. Anyone worth paying attention to?
  3. Yeah, it's gonna get bumpy riding that one out. Still, it might be trumped in the worst value category by Verlander's before all is said and done. Vernon Wells will forever be the worst. Actually, no... B.J. Upton is well on his way to being the worst value ever Mike Hampton? That ended up being ugly. Yeeeaaaaahhhh, I forgot he existed. Hampton: 8 years, $121 million, 2.9 rWAR Wells: 7 years, $126 million, 8.1 rWAR Upton is going to make a case though. 5 years, $75.25 million, -1.4 rWAR (so far) Bobby Bonilla? Aren't the mets on the hook for him until 2036? I know they didn't sign him, but they negotiated his buyout.
  4. Grand Rapids. It rotates year to year. Hence it was a bigger deal when the Whitecaps stadium burned half down this winter, during our too cold to fight fires phase.
  5. - BP This has been said about him over and over again since the day he was drafted. Anyone seen him play that can add to this? Will this play in larger outfields like Coors or Turner? I'm no scout, and only saw him in 3 games, but he made playing CF look easy. He seemed to know where the ball was going the moment it left the bat, and got what I thought were good jumps on balls hit in his direction. Didn't see anything to the extreme gaps though.
  6. Brad Renner (2013 28th rd RHP) having Tommy John tomorrow.
  7. Philly would be fascinating. If they took him, what do they do with Foles? Cleveland?

I thought that was your joke about Pabst balls.
  9. I'd love to get his GB/FB stats. We know he has some power, from batting practice and from some of the balls that he does hit over the wall. But no ground balls go over the wall. Last year a high percentage of his hits were singles. (Higher than Barney last year, for context). This year he's been almost exclusively a singles hitter, 14 of his 17 hits thus far are singles. So whether or not he'll lift the ball often enough to hit HR's, I don't think that's can't-miss. I think his power is often being used on sharply hit ground balls. Wasn't he considered to have an "advanced" approach at the plate, and good pitch recognition, coming out of HS? It looks like in the videos I have seen In HS he had a lot more uppercut to the swing, and since joining the Cubs org has really leveled that swing out more. Is it possible that the lack of HR power is a combo of hitting what he's thrown, combined with an organizational tinkering of the swing and/or approach?
  10. There's a rumor circulating around here that the Lions are having internal discussions about trading Suh to move up in the draft. I'm assuming that it's Suh+extension for a top 6 pick, not Suh+10 for a top 6 pick. Oakland and Tampa make the most sense in possibly wanting him, and Cleveland and Jacksonville have the most cap space to absorb him. With what I've heard about draft slots, slots don't trade on draft day, just picks. But picks traded ahead of time allow the draft slots to move. So to move from 6 to 1 on draft day, would require getting the #1 overall to agree to terms with the #6 slot money. What happens if it's player for pick(s) on draft day? Do those slots get added to the recipient? Based on how the draft shakes out, moving up to #5 or 6 ahead of time could be unfavorable for the Lions if Watkins/Clowney/Mack/Evans/Robinson are gone. Or if you're the Lions is that a risk worth taking to be out from under Suh's cap hit, and risk potential overdrafts to fill the biggest needs? The Lions are right up against the cap, so do need some flexibility just to sign picks.
  11. 64, partly because of the sell off. On a pace for 71 before the sell off. Despite the prospects they can't recover from the pitching they trade away.
  12. Anthony Giansanti to TENN edit: (add) Zeke DeVoss, Corey Black to TENN as well
  13. Stephen Perakslis ‏@SPerakslis3 Spending summer 2014 playing baseball in Daytona Beach Florida for @daytonacubs not a bad summer
  14. Could there be something in the works regarding DeSean Jackson? Dear god, that would be ridiculous. What are they saying Jackson would cost? I doubt whatever the assets it would take would be worth it from the Bears perspective. Rumor is they're asking for a 3rd and no one is willing to pay that price, so might be able to be had for less or just cash if he really is released at the meetings as is anticipated. They can't release him. Would be a 12.5Mil dead cap hit. Can't restructure him because he won't agree to it. Can't trade him because nobody wants to pay him the rest of his 5 year/48Mil contract (4 years left) AND give up a 3rd round pick. His contract isn't guaranteed this year or any remaining year on the deal, and he'd only have a 6.25 mil cap hit (3 yrs of prorated bonus and his guaranteed workout bonus), versus 12.5 if he actually plays.

  17. If that's the case, I hope Tillman comes back. I'd rather be forced to go DT in round 1 than CB. In my opinion, CB is a position that you don't use a 1st round pick on unless you're getting a near-generational talent. I might be inclined to use a 1st at the very backend of the round on a CB, but that's my limit. I don't see one of those special CBs in this draft. It's pretty rare that you don't have to develop a CB, regardless of the round, so I'm more inclined to use lower round picks. I'd be ok with a 2nd, and even a late round pick, both being used on a CB, assuming we address a need with the 1st.
  18. This is what I was thinking as well :-k Most of the analysis websites are talking about Lovie having no patience with rookies, or younger players. While I can see where that stigma might come from on defense, offensively, wasn't he more susceptible to trusting his coaches and their opinions on the younger players?
  19. I became convinced after seeing him this summer.
  20. What are the thoughts about drafting a "project" QB in the mid to late rounds to groom to take over in a few years? With so many needs on defense, and not having a 7th round pick, I don't know that it would be wise to do this year.
  21. On a minor league deal. That's surprising. I wish the Cubs could have gotten him on that deal. It's a major league deal, per rotoworld. Base is 1.5mil, with up to 5 mil in incentives.
  22. Per Arguello he was in your exact range during the summer.
