  1. I think the only question is the fanbase. The Cubs might decide that the hit to the fanbase from keeping Zambrano is worth more to them than the amount that Z can give you on the field. Otherwise there's no reason why they couldn't make up again. Wow. That's some opinion. I'll join in the throngs of people who disagree 100% with this. To quote Charlie Sheen, "winning". That's what its about. San Francisco obviously had no fans when Barry was carrying the team. Nobody cares too much about character in team sports. They will forgive anything if the bad characters are producing. Sammy was beloved when he was good. And he was hated when he sucked. To think that keeping Zambrano would lose fans is absolutely untrue. And to bring up the Pacers analogy is also wrong. The Pacers have sucked for a long time. Ron Artest had nothing to do with them losing fans. Sorry.
  2. Good for the Cubs. Save $3 million bucks. I couldn't care less of what Zambrano did. I'm fine with a player actually being upset with how he's playing. He's making $18 million a year, and he's pissed off enough with his play that he would actually cost himself some serious dough. Better than Soriano being perfectly content to cash the check he doesn't deserve. Screw this "quitting on the team" bulls@#t. The team sucks. At least Zambrano realizes it. Nobody else seems to. Any excuse for this team to save some money. Spare us this "Zambrano quit on us" crap. We know better than this. It's about the money, and the embarassment. But the Cubs should be embarassed at how they've played. And good for Quade for proving he lead the team to meaningless wins. Great. As you can see, I'm bitter.
  3. Tiger did win a few that way. The 1997 Masters and the 2000 US Open come to mind. But he had plenty of nail biters. The PGA vs. Bob May and the US Open vs Rocco. Usually there were others in the tournaments. But he was always a given to contend, not necessarily to win.
  4. I am big golfer and golf fan. I'll watch any tournament, at least have the TV on while I'm doing something else. I'll watch most majors. And I miss seeing the great Tiger as much as anyone. Watching Tiger in his prime was really special. He was arguably the most dominant athlete ever. Golfers are simply not supposed to be able to win 40% of the tournaments they enter. Tennis players, sure. Runners, fine. Cyclists, OK. But golf? No way. It's a sport where 100 guys have a legit shot at winning any tournament. What Tiger did. That's pure domination. And he did it in an era of tons of depth. He was a given to contend in just about every major he entered. It's not as fun if one guy plays out of his mind for a week, wins, and you don't hear from him again for 2-3 months. This is what happens for even the top golfers these days. Rory, Phil, etc. They are not even in Tiger's league. Ricky Fowler gets tons of hype, and he hasn't even ever won. That's why I don't get when people say- Well, there a plenty of great players. The tour is doing well without Tiger. That's ridiculous. Because 2001 Tiger Woods would destroy Rory McIroy and Dustin Johnson. Whether you root against him or for him, he made golf much more exciting, even for real hard core fans. And definitely for casual fans as well.
  5. Stevie deserves all the crap he's getting. Wow. Caddies are so overrated. People win tournaments with their girlfriends caddying for them. Get over yourself. And Tiger probably deserves some of it too. Not too many people around seem to have a good relationship with Tiger these days. Maybe he is really a huge a$$hole. I know Stevie, Elin, and Hank Haney all think so. But that said, I really want him to get back to form. Golf is so boring without him.
  6. Completely agreed on the INT's for Knox. Any time the ball is slightly underthrown or behind him, he doesn't even seem to try. He's got to be one of the worst receivers in the NFL at turning into a defender when the DB is going for the ball.
  7. I don't pretend to understand football well enough to have strong opinions regarding centers. But after years of hearing how great Olin Kreutz was, and seeing how bad the offensive line was, I really wondered what all the hype was about.
  8. Good riddance Brad Maynard and your 30 yard punts.
  9. Sounds like a repeat of the 09 Masters for him. Blazed the front nine but couldn't keep it up. Phil has cost himself multiple majors by missing 4 footers. Not saying this was one of them, but who knows what happens if he doesn't miss that one.
  10. It's pretty easy to see why Phil was one of the betting favorites in Vegas. Vegas sets the lines partially so they don't get killed if that person/team wins. Phil is still one of the big names in golf so the books are going to shift the odds in their favor because they know a lot of people will bet on Phil simply because he's Phil. As far as the tournament goes, it seems like Sunday could be similar to the Masters with a ton of players in it down the stretch. Vegas might set up initial lines but ultimately, they are determined by the bets that come in. It reflects how many people but on him. He's a sentimental favorite and plenty of people who don't know golf think he actually has a shot in the British open. That's exactly why he's a sucker bet. Actually hanging in there today. The Cubs might actually win a WS at some point as well, but they are still a sucker bet.
  11. The thing I remember about Brenly's managing in the WS that year was how he kept going to Byung-Hyun Kim when he was just getting crushed. I kept thinking that Brenly was an absolute idiot for letting him pitch to the Yankees. But they did win. And now that I look back at the stats, it wasn't as bad as I remembered it. Kim did OK in the rest of the playoffs.
  12. Good. Brandon Beachy would win like 8 Cy Youngs with the Cardinals.
  13. A lot of interesting stories. Especially among the Americans. Fowler would be interesting. Can Dustin Johnson avoid the choke? Nobody would've called AK at this point, and the senior citizens Lehman and Love. Pretty cool. Phil has no shot, though. His record in the Open is downright atrocious. He's always a sucker bet in the Open. I can't believe he was one of the betting favorites in Vegas. He's absolutely horrible in the wind. The conditions were as benign as could be for him so far. When the wind gets up, so will his score. I'm rooting for him, though.
  14. No, I'm fine with the message. I'm just pointing out the irony of the message coming from athletes.
  15. Perhaps tampering rules only apply to players that are property of another team? I really don't know. Seems awfully shady. Yeah, it's been reported elsewhere. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/06/23/did-oklahoma-city-make-promise-to-reggie-jackson/ So there isn't a rule against it. If there isn't, there really should be.
  16. Jay Bilas said Reggie Jackson got a promise from OKC a few months back and therefore refused to work out for anyone. Someone explain how there isn't a tampering rule that was violated there if that's true.
  17. Do you think any of the Cubs that participated in the video are homosexuals? What do you want them to do about it? I don't see your reasoning. And how do any of us know that there aren't any Cubs who are gay? The statistics would say there is a very good chance there is. If the message is "don't be a bully, and if you are being bullied, hang in there", then that's fine. If the message is "hey, if you're gay, it gets better", then the message is a bit hollow coming from baseball players because professional sports is one of the least welcoming environments for anyone who is gay. It's a bit like an all white country club putting out a message to minorities that "it gets better". Even if the people putting out the message aren't bigots themselves.
  18. I'm all for the video. But what does it mean when there are exactly zero baseball players that are out of the closet? I mean, what kind of credibility to baseball players actually have here? It gets better. You can even play pro baseball so long as you remain in the closet.
  19. I like Thursday. I try to watch the Bears whenever I can. And maybe 1 more game if the teams are good. This gives me one more shot to avoid the dreaded Niners/Raiders doubleheader on Sundays. I lived in New York for years, and I move to the one other metro area in the country that has 2 teams.
  20. I doubt the Cubs will be getting "top prospects" for Zambrano.
  21. The leaderboard is looking similar to Pebble 2000. He might even be able to shoot 80 again on Sunday and win if he keeps it up.
  22. Let's see what Rory McIlroy is made of. Coming out fast again. On pure talent, he's probably the best out there right now. But is the Masters choke going to affect him negatively or positively?
  23. So you said that LeBron isn't a scorer/shooter earlier in the series, now you're saying he can't get to the basket. How exactly is he managing the 4th best scoring average of all-time with all these offensive faults? A wizard did it He's a really good player. I've never implied or said otherwise. My point consistently has been that he is overrated offfensively. Maybe "he's not that good" offensively might have been stating it too strongly, but I've always been consistent with my opinion of him. His strengths are he's probably the fastest, strongest, and biggest player in history, he's an amazing passer, and a very good defender. His weakness is one of the most important traits in basketball. To be able to create an easy shot for yourself and score consistently against a good defense. LeBron cannot slither through traffic like Wade, Kobe, DRose. Even Dirk was getting to the basket easier than LeBron. A post game like his shameful given his athletic ability. He's the one who kept passing it when he had Kidd in the post. He knows his post game sucks. And his shot is not consistent. LeBron has his games when everything is going in. But those are the exception. He can get a shot over anyone at any time, yet he doesn't even have the balls to take one in the finals. And he's never been good at any of these things, going back to Cleveland. Since he was so good so young, and was always the strongest and fastest, he never had to develop many offensive moves. Take all the stats you want. Did you guys just watch the Dallas series? And he was great in the Bulls series, but he wasn't exactly killing it in the halfcourt game. He made a lot of shots and had a lot of transition points. There are 2 camps here. 1) LeBron was not on his game in the finals and 2) The finals exposed LeBron's weaknesses. You guys are entitled to think #1 is true. I'll take option #2.
  24. David Stern? Winner. Hilarious that the same people who cried about Rose not getting any calls don't care to notice when it happens WAY WORSE to someone they hate. Are we back to LeBron is so great that there has to be a reason other than LeBron for failure. As for the fouls, the guy has no offensive game, and he was almost to the point where he was trying to draw a foul rather than actually make a shot. If he's not fast break dunking or jacking a shot, he IS JUST NOT THAT GOOD. I can't believe all this stuff I'm hearing from everyone implying that LeBron can get to the basket like Jordan or Kobe, and he somehow lost it. Simply not true. He never has and never will. LBJ and DWade also probably cost themselves some calls over the playoffs with their flopping. Officials probably watch sportscenter too.
  25. Let the Dwight Howard sweepstakes begin. He just announced he won't sign an extension and he will reconsider wanting to stay if they don't improve the team.
