  1. You're right - it's time for me to get off that topic now. It's water under the bridge. It just upsets me that the Cubs had a chance to get this guy twice - after the 2002 season, and again after the 2004 season, and both times couldn't (or wouldn't) close the deal. I don't know how much of a shot this had of happening, but the only non-move that I keep wishing would have happened is signing Tejada a couple years ago. Alex Gonzalez's presence shouldn't have been a determining factor in getting one of the game's best SS. Of course, no Tejada may have meant no Derrek Lee/Choi trade. You're like an angrier JC. You mean goony? Us soccer players must think alike. Must be the shots to the head :D In second to last game this year, I did take a nasty shot to the face. Ouchies! I was wearing a hat, and it broke the brim -- probably saving my nose from being broken. Despite bleeding like a stuck pig, I managed to corral the ball. (Probably because I was bleeding like a stuck pig, the offense let me...) Stupid defense, letting forwards by them for one-on-ones. I hate that. Grrrr.
  2. Yeah, here is a thought. Keeping your "criticism muted" is wimp talk for not admitting you didn't have the sack to voice your concerns when things were going well. Your assent to moderator is an abomination. Hilarious. Is this blowback from the Goony comparison? :D BTW, JC, you owe me $4 for dry cleaning. When I read this I spit up diet coke on my shirt. :P I have no idea what you are talking about...or something... Check the other thread, where you called Raw an angrier JC. High comedy. I'm going to go buy wine and drink at my desk. Anyone else want anything while 'm out? You are adept at picking up on a complex, muti-thread, carryover insult, but you completely miss fairly obvious sarcasm? None for me, thanks. I just got back from a "working" lunch with Cpt. Morgan. I was thinking about investing in some property in Newcastle, but I knew I'd drink up the equity and be stuck at work longer.

Your assent to moderator is an abomination. You're just jealous because I have the special booger color name. Loser. Anyway, when were things going well defensively with Barrett? I suppose he was making improvements with throwing runners out, but he's still below average, defensively. I'm not too upset with his mental ... gaffe the other day. I'm more frustrated with his game-calling, catching ability and his positioning on throws to the plate. You know, basic fundamental stuff.

  5. I'm pretty disappointed in Barrett, all in all. I've kept my criticism muted, to be sure, but it's still there. I guess because my disappointment stems from him defensively, more so than his offense. Hernandez is available via FA this offseason. Thoughts?
  6. If Ramirez were at all fast he'd probably be called the AMRAAM.
  7. Pretty darn good is what I was thinking. :)
  8. Here's where Dusty being a "player's manager" is a flaw, but not for the reasons cited above. I bet Dusty is madder than all of us about the performance last night. I bet Dusty lets those players know about it. Heck, I bet there is a team meeting where Dusty rips them all a new one. The Cubs had terrible defense, a terrible batting approach, terrible patience, and have just looked lethargic recently. Dusty knows this; he knows it's a reflection of him. The flaw is that we won't know about it. I bash Dusty when it's warranted. And, yes, the team played like crap last night. Dusty knows it, too. The thing to watch? How they respond to the ass-kicking they most certainly will receive. We'll see tonight and through this weekend whether or not the Cubs have it within themselves to make the playoffs.
  9. That was awful defense right there. RUN HIM THE HECK BACK TO THIRD!!!!
  10. Why do I think this inning will end poorly?
  11. Hey, I'm not involved in whatever the two of them have going on between each other. Leave me out of it! Whatever... he can't keep a secret.
  12. I liked the second pitch in the AB, and Neifi's reaction to it almost as much as his swing on the final pitch.
  13. You're automatically cool because you're a meteorologist! Hey, I want girls to like me for my looks, not my brains and personality. Keep wanting, bucko. :P Speaking of wanting... I want the goods on Navin's internet stalking. Now. Get to the telling, O_O and Slugger. Don't make me do something you'll regret.
  14. Crap. Barrett allows another WP. Tough night behind the plate.
  15. That scared me. It also almost turned me into a gibbering fool, rather than merely loopy.
  16. Navin has an internet crush on Slugger? Where have you been? I don't spend a lot of time in chat/chit-chat/social, so I wouldn't know. However, I do spend a lot of time harassing people... and this could be good ammo when he gets back.
  17. Navin has an internet crush on Slugger?
  18. Wow. DeMuth called those strikes on the Cubs. Brenly calls him on it.
  19. Bwahahahaha! That's funny. True comedy.

    If

True enough however, every season we see things fall into place over the last few months for a team or two, why in the hell can't one of those teams be the Cubs for a change? Nothing says it can't be the Cubs -- and we were one of those teams in 2003, for what its worth. All it takes it using the proper personnel in the proper situations, and for said personnel to perform according to expected norms.
