  1. Gotta have 12 pitchers -- and no young position players!! I really don't like this team's philosophy.
  2. Aram is now tied with Neifi for the team lead with 13 (Aram has 3 in this series alone). They are tied for 10th in the league (Sean Casey leads with 24).
  3. Or that he's the slowest player on the team when healthy.
  4. Very nice, indeed. And, guys, please, remember appropriate game thread etiquette. We're getting close to crossing the line. for "damn" and "dammit"...wow, how countryclubish. No, not for "damn" or "damnit". And don't forget your khaki's and blazer.

  6. Without looking it up, I have to guess Dempster's walk rate is at least similar to Wood's, if not worst. I don't get why Wood can't close because he walks people, but Dempster can. I agree that Ryan should stay there for now. Personally I think the swingman 7th/8th inning role is far more important than the closer. On an ideal team, your closer doesn't walk anyone; nor do your starters. Of course, we live in an imperfect world, and the Cubs are ... more imperfect than you or I would like. I happen to agree that the 7th/8th inning role is more important than the 9th. Far too often, there's a mess that need's cleaning in the 7th or 8th. Frankly, I think you should use your best reliever in the most difficult situations, rather than in some defined "closer's" role. It does you little good to have a Billy Wagner or Eric Gagne for the 9th if you can't keep the lead in the 8th.
  7. All right. Time for a triple play. And then 2 grand slams next inning. Or a walk by Wuertz.
  8. And only now is Wuertz getting warmed up. C'mon Baker, Welly is getting shelled.
  9. Crap. Welly gives a gopher ball to Adam Everett. Adam Everett!!
  10. First sniff of a righty and Bakere needs to jump all over the chance to put Lawton in for Burnitz. He wiould prolly come in for Murton knowing Dusty. Yep, Murton needs to hit another homer to keep in order to stay in vs. a righty. Who betta than Jose Macias?! Bite your tongue!!
  11. bump. please observe the game instead of using the boxscore to assess how Glendon Rusch has pitched. Yeah, 10 hits and 5 runs in 3+ innings certainly isn't Glendon's fault. I want results! what part about "please observe the game instead of using the boxscore to assess how Glendon Rusch has pitched" did you not understand? Sorry, jjgman, but I'm watching the game as well as hanging in the game thread, and Rusch didn't look great. Yes, some of those hits (actually more like 3-4) were bloopy-fluky hits, but Glendon has little control and has issued walks and served up a couple very hard hit balls that were caught -- Patterson on Burke's flyout to deep left center, Murton on Berkman's line out to deep left, and Glendon himself on a screaming come-backer by Biggio.
  12. I hope he doesn't walk anyone in. I want a K. Gimme. Thank you, Welly. I appreciate your accomplishment of my selfish goals.
  13. Hmm... so that's why they keep him around. ;)

  15. Thanks for the intelligent imput. I love the in depth analysis you provided. Dude, the game thread isn't for intelligent "imput." It's for knee-jerk reactions and venting, like you'd hear at a game. It's a game thread, not a rants thread. Intelligent analysis of the game is encouraged; reactions are welcome, too.
  16. Nice catch by Murton on that drive by Twinkie.
  17. Who else do we have to start? Rich Hill? Sergio Mitre. Todd Wellemeyer. Renyel Pinto. Ricky Nolasco. And how good are these guys? Mitre was hammered before he left, Welly is a reliever, Pinto is unproven along with Nolasco. Mitre was decent in his role as a starter. He had a 1.29 WHIP and a 5.19 (very bullpen-inflated, too, by the way). He stopped starting because the Cubs had their theoretical rotation in order. Welly has been starting in Iowa and was a starter for several years. I grant that Pinto and Nolasco are unproven, as is Hill. Rusch is a proven, rather mediocre, starter. We caught lightning in a bottle with Glendon for the last year. Meanwhile, the young Cubs are better; give them a shot and keep Glendon in the 'pen.
  18. Now, I understand all the crap Baker gets, but this is beyond his control. Fire Baker for starting Rusch instead of Rich Hill? C'mon now, that's not at all what was said.
  19. Who else do we have to start? Rich Hill? Sergio Mitre. Todd Wellemeyer. Renyel Pinto. Ricky Nolasco.
  20. Indeed. That was a deep, but routine flyball in virtually every other MLB park.
  21. Ummm... right down the middle. I don't know how that wasn't a strike. The 3-1 strike call was clearly a make up call.
  22. This guy has no control, and the Cubs have three outs on first pitch swings and one hit. Barrett has seen two pitches in two AB's. Patience boys.
