  1. Every few years or so someone comes along and gets some massive deal and everyone says it's going to ruin extensions. It was that way for Harper a few years ago. It was Ohtani last year. It's Soto this year. Despite that, there are people who extend before they hit FA. Glasgow did last year. Devers the year before (though not a trade). Tucker may hit FA. But I think the Soto contract isn't a massive boogeyman here. If he wants to hit FA he will. But if the Cubs offer him market value, there's a real chance he could extend.
  2. On the Roger's comment about believing the Cubs will be unlikely to extend him - I think that's just prudent. Tucker will want top dollar and a contract probably 2x any Cub contract before. Signing him will be tricky. I think you have to assume it's unlikely until they can or do. I do think the Cubs are not making a Tucker trade only with an eye on one year and a QO pick. There has to be some feeling he'd be interested in sitting down and talking.
  3. It's probably a bit of column A and a bit from column B. I think at times, they could make better decisions. But every other team you listed here also gets benefits (the Cardinals sometimes) from being revenue sharing teams. They get more picks, and other bonuses. The Cubs benefit is being from a huge market. They could stand to make better choices at times, but not flexing their financial muscles enough, is a detriment and fighting with an arm tied behind their back, too.
  4. Well that's my prediction. I think they will, ultimately, settle on something close to that
  5. Sharma and Mooney update. There's nothing big on Tucker but two points: 1. Cubs have met with Sasaki and his representatives 2. Cubs have interest in Hoby Milner
  6. I'd do it as well.
  7. I think that's one impact prospect too many. My guess will be: Parades One of: Caissie/Smith/Alcantara And a sweetner. It could be a pitcher like Assad or Wicks. It could be a guy like Jonny Long or Cole Mathis. But I think that's about in line with what Soto went for last year, and that's probably overpaying for Tucker, who is great, but isn't Soto, either.
  8. The Astros are even stingier with long term deals than the Cubs. I think they're pretty clearly not going to sign Tucker at all. For all of the winging we have over Swanson being the biggest contract under Hoyer, the Astros have never gone over six years. They also reportedly love Parades. This turns a guy they probably will never extend into a guy they control for 3 years who is designed for their home field. I also suspect that if the Cubs trade for Tucker, there's some reason to believe that the can extend him. How likely that is? I'm not sure. But I think there's some belief.
  9. Rogers was on ESPN 1000. Basically said that he think the Cubs have the inside track on Tucker over the Yankees. Also that Cody Bellinger to the Yankees was picking up steam. If the Yankees felt confident on Tucker, they'd not need Bellinger - who could play 1b or OF, depending on what they want to do. Bregman seems likely to choose shortly and industry believes Yankees are the team to beat here. If the Cubs trade Bellinger, I cannot imagine they'd be including both Parades and Suzuki to the Astros. They won't deal three starters. So end result I'm expecting these dominoes to fall reading the leaves: 1. Bregman signs with NYY 2. Cubs trade Bellinger to NYY for...things. 3. Cubs trade Parades or Suzuki to Astros, plus like one of Smith/Caisse/Alcantara and maybe some lower end prospects like Cole Mathis or something. They get Tucker. Rogers also suggested these trades could get done in the next few days. I think it might be quicker and more rapid fire than even that.
  10. This probably means more good news on the Tucker trade.
  11. Joel Sherman - Yankees have cooled on Christian Walker
  12. If Rogers is saying there's building to a Bellinger-Yankees swap, it means Seiya isn't going to Houston, very likely. Or at least, Parades and Seiya wuoldn't be going. I think it's still Parades, but the Cubs aren't dealing three starters here. That'd be madness. I truly think Heyman's reporting is bad here, ya'll. That's more than Soto got last year. And he's a better player. I think we're all worked up about bad reporting.
  13. If I had to posit a guess here, I'd guess this is a bit of a "Mexican Standoff" for a lack of a better term as the team's await Bregman and they both want this done on their terms. If Bregman choses the Yankees, then the Cubs deal headlined with Parades is probably the best looking on the table. If it's that he stays, I'd guess the Yankees offering Gil might be more attractive. Or I'd assume the Astros are framing it that way. So you have Houston demanding the premium to do it before the decision and the Cubs holding off from that and/or trying to suggest they'd lower their offer if he went to the Yankees. Idk. Just a guess here.
  14. He's got some legit followers. Eno Saris, Jim Passan, Paul Sporer, Marc Craig and a bunch of others. Usually guys with those followers don't tweet garbage.
  15. It's Jon Heyman, so you can always fall back on one of two things; 1. He's also not understanding the original Rosenthal report. 2. He's being used by a team (like the Astros) to put extra public pressure on the Cubs. It might be what they want. But I kind of lean #2. As the team's round 3rd here, the Astros want to put the screws on just a bit more knowing this is likely getting done.
  16. @TomtheBombadil Not sure if you had caught this yet.
  17. This feels like it really might happen.
  18. Then for the sake of Mr. Workman, I shall hereby only refer to him as Tater.
  19. His middle name is Tater. That's all the scouting report on him I need.
  20. Sure. But Tucker is better than Bellinger. So what you do is you add a better player to do the same thing. And someone you *hope* the Cubs earnestly look into locking up long term as opposed to Bellinger who leaves at the years' end. Hoyer made some comments earlier today that they've spoken to Seiya about his position and that they expect he's a Cub. Wolfe, his agent said he's fine playing DH, but made it clear he doesn't only want to DH. So moving around seems to work.
