Yeah, if I told this board that Russell would be a 20 HR, 80 RBI guy while hitting 9th half the year, with gold glove defense, everyone would have thought those were extreme ceiling numbers. I don't remember Russell hitting 9th at all this year.

Schwarber's lost catching year sucks so much. Itd be nice to have him backing up Contreras in 17 instead of Contreras and Montero and so that the other spot could be used for Sczuzr/Almora/Candelario/Sealboy.

Honestly, I'm not sure I do. I love the guy and can't wait for him to be back next year, but I just don't know where he fits on this team this year, and who you remove off the roster for a guy that can't play a defensive position. I'm not arguing in favor of it but you could probably remove one of the old catchers and not miss too much.

I'm not thrilled with Almora as our everyday CF but I'm not ready to give up on him either. I'd prefer to trade Szcuzr and keep Almora in his role. With Almora in CF and Heyward in RF on certain days we could probably play Schwarber out there right now and they'd be a double plus OF.

I am guessing Bryant + Russell would've maybe gotten us Archer?

But just think about this -- they had an argument in a house full of their friends and family. In front of her brother Chapman put his hands on her neck and forced her against a wall. Could you imagine someone doing that to someone you loved? In front of their sibling? How little respect does he actually have for this woman, someone he is supposed to love and protect? Now, even if he had done all of this with zero witnesses around, its still bad. Very, very bad. But he still did it knowing full well that her family and his were there watching/listening. Talk about a lack of self control, human decency.. both. Even if she instigated the fight and hit him first he is a hulking professional athlete and there were plenty of people there he could have asked to help intervene or calm her down. But nope, he put his hand around her throat and pushed her against a wall. With her daughter in the house. And then fired a shotgun 8 times in his house. And after all of that, he still shows very little remorse, if any at all. No, he didn't beat her to within an inch of her life, but she still probably felt that she was.

With his contract, batting him 8th or 9th just doesn't seem realistic. I think maybe he should try batting right handed or blindfolded or something though. I didn't realize there was a clause in his contract that he gets extra money if he bats 8th. C'mon. You know how baseball works at this level. Joe is far from old timey but he didnt even move him down to 6th until Heyward brought the idea to him. Move him to 8th or 9th and the media will never let it go. Its just not realistic IMO , not this year.

I went for a long run last night and had time to think about things. I was wrong to try to diminish what happened. I was blinded by my love for this team and the excitement of adding a player of Chapman's caliber to it made me take a stance that I wouldn't ever normally take. I do think that in our society (and on the internet in general) there is a rush to judgement without knowing all of the facts, although enough is known here to realize that Chapman is a scumbag that doesn't deserve my support. I genuinely am sorry for upsetting anyone here based on the things I wrote or shared in this thread. It makes me sick to think that while trying to make a point I came across as someone who defends a batterer. Thats not who I am or how I was raised. I do love this board and 99% of the contributors on it and I hope this can be an example of how reasoned debate can open a person's eyes to the correct way of thinking. Thank you guys for that, truly.

I'm not defending what he did, I just find it unfair to label him the way he's been labeled based on what we know. People are making it seem like he nearly killed someone. What he did was wrong and [expletive] crazy, no doubt about it. Too much alcohol can make good people do bad things. I just don't know if that makes him a 100% evil person, but I don't know enough. I'll take a self-imposed break from the board, I hope you all will find it in your hearts to give me a second chance.

your inability or refusal to distinguish between having someone on your favorite team and wanting them cut into tiny pieces and shot into space is maybe as infuriating as your willingness to post pictures of a woman as justification for "IT WASN'T THAT BAD OF A CHOKING."
