  1. Interesting breakdown of money paid to players on the DL this year: http://res.dallasnews.com/interactives/rangers-injuries/
  2. Just thought of an interesting guy we could deal Jaxon for straight up. $13 million on his contract next year, with a $13 million vesting option for 2016. Still pitching well, although the reason he'll be available is behavior issues. But then he has a connection with our front office and no history (that I'm aware of) of behavior issues before this year. The deal-breaker will be whether he's willing to move out of the 9th. I'm talking of course about Jonathan Papelbon.
  3. Garza scratched with a case of we-can't-make-the-playoffs-so-eff-it-itis
  4. This will make winning my fantasy championship very hard. I might have to drop him :?
  5. Theo is going to be so disappointed when Bryant isn't ready for it.
  6. Best thing ever.
  7. Yes please. Would be nice to try and weasel Bethancourt away but probably no chance the Braves would want to move him. The Braves are supposedly considering moving Gattis this offseason to make room for Bethancourt. I'm not sure if I'd be interested in Gattis as part of an Upton/Jackson swap, at least until it becomes clear where Schwarber will end up. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/7113/evan-gattis
  8. Unsurprising. From Rotoworld:http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/mlb/baseball Yu Darvish - S - Rangers Rangers general manager Jon Daniels indicated in a radio interview with KRLD-FM/105.3 "The Fan" on Monday that Yu Darvish (elbow) is unlikely to pitch again this season. The Rangers initially expressed optimism that Darvish would be able to return from the DL when he's first eligible, but they have backed off any such timeline in recent days. While he's only dealing with mild inflammation in the elbow, the Rangers are out of contention and there's no reason to rush him back with just a month to go in the season. "With everything else we’ve dealt with and how important he is, we’ve said once he’s completely asymptomatic and the doctor clears him, we’d get another scan and then if everything is clear, we’d get him back pitching," said Daniels. "By the calendar and how close to the end of the season we are, I don’t know that it will allow him to pitch again."
  9. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/brian-mccann-probably-couldnt-be-given-away-for-free/ I really don't want him, but McCann jumped to mind for me. Way too much money and many years, but he's a catcher with leadership experience. The Yankees would be sending us cash for Jackson in this case.
  10. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/08/rusney-castillo-rumors-thursday.html?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook Rusney Castillo Rumors: Thursday By Mark Polishuk [August 21, 2014 at 9:20am CDT] There’s still a lot of uncertainty about where Cuban outfielder/second baseman Rusney Castillo will sign, even amongst Major League teams. An executive who has been scouting Castillo for the last month tells Peter Gammons (Twitter link) that “no one knows who’s getting him or which teams will jump in unexpectedly.” Following yesterday’s updates, here’s the latest on the Castillo sweepstakes… Castillo privately worked out for the Reds and Mariners within the past week, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal reports. The late date of these workouts was due to scheduling, Rosenthal notes, and shouldn’t be thought of as a hint that Castillo is favoring either of these two clubs. Six other teams (the Cubs, Giants, Phillies, Red Sox, Tigers and Yankees) have now had Castillo in for a private workout, Rosenthal lists. The Red Sox are one of the three teams “most actively involved” for Castillo’s services, Rosenthal reports. Presumably the other two teams are the Tigers and Giants, as Rosenthal cited two days ago. “There’s definitely a growing sense” the Cubs will be outbid for Castillo’s services, a source tells CSN Chicago’s Patrick Mooney. Another source predicts Castillo will receive a contract “much closer” to $68MM (what Jose Abreu received from the White Sox) than $42MM (what Yasiel Puig received from the Dodgers). MLive.com’s Chris Iott warns that a number of hurdles will have to be jumped for Castillo to be able to contribute to a team in September. Fans also might want to temper their expectations for Castillo, as while he is expected to be ready for the majors immediately, Iott notes that it would be hard for a contender like the Tigers to just hand Castillo a starting job down the stretch in a pennant race.
  11. Eno Sarris ‏@enosarris 37m Rusney Castillo hit .332/.401/.545 with 16 HR & 22 sB in 2013. Huzzah! The Davenport Translation on that is .237/.276/.390 9HR/15SB. Egads! Eno Sarris ‏@enosarris 26m . @doctorjohnson8 Both Cespedes and Abreu have come short of their DT projections. (so yes worry about Rusney) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-difficulty-in-projecting-jose-abreu/ …
  12. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 1m Sources: #Tigers, #RedSox, #SFGiants still in mix for Rusney Castillo. #Cubs, #Yankees, #Phillies not expected to place high bid.
  13. He's got a good FIP and xFIP this year, but you can only have so many reclamation projects. We've got Wood/Turner/Straily/Doubront/Wada for cheaper and with similar upside. Most of those guys have longer control too. Plus his K% - BB% is nothing spectacular. Pass.
  14. What is the concern level of Bosio getting a head coaching gig/promotion elsewhere? He's been so successful at turning guys around the last few years that I feel teams are going to have their eye on him. Whenever organizations have success, they tend to have their lower level guys get picked over for promotions. We didn't lose Hoyer to the Padres, but Bosio and/or some of our scouting guys are sure to go.
  15. He's going to talk to Shark about pitching in Chicago. Hopefully he says good things...
  16. I think it's safe to say we won't be going after a Hammels/Feldman/Maholm kind of guy this off-season. We've got enough cost controlled league average-ish with upside guys that there's no reason to spend the money. Doubront/Straily /Turner will be plenty for Bosio to work on. Mat Latos is on my radar as a guy we could pick-up at the trade deadline next year. It will be his walk year. Some injury concerns, but what pitcher doesn't have some. He'll be 27 almost 28 next year, which makes him a good extension candidate as well. All of this of course requiring the Reds are out of it and he's healthy/pitching well.
  17. This has to be a good sign for payroll limitations. The Phillies could've just dumped his salary on us (and received no prospect in return). Obviously they didn't and I wouldn't say it was ever likely, but Theo was comfortable taking on $96 million if they did. That's a big chunk of change.
  18. I find it easier, since he isn't striking out every AB like I expected him to. Yeah, only 3 in 10 abs so far. I'd be completely fine if he stays at that rate the rest of the season. We should all be pretty ecstatic.
  19. This article got me really excited. We've uncovered a market inefficiency. Of course other teams are going to start noticing it now and start taking the top college bats at the top of the draft, causing the elite pitchers and high school bats to fall. Hopefully right into our laps as we descend in the draft order the next few years. We should be able to get really good value while improving in the MLB standings.
  20. Javy has a big enough face to balance out Rizzo's lack of one.
  21. So what time should we expect Iowa's line-up to be posted? Going to be interesting to see if Javy is in it...
  22. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs are "trying to trade" Edwin Jackson. It won't be easy, as Jackson has posted a 5.22 ERA over 51 starts for the Cubs and is due about $26 million through the 2016 season. However, the right-hander is durable and has flashed upside in the past, so it's possible the Cubs might find a taker as long as they're willing to eat most of the contract. The Yankees have been mentioned as possible suitors of Jackson, though that might change now that they've acquired Chris Capuano. Source: CBSSports.com Thu, Jul 24 2014 4:12 PM From Rotoworld
  23. The last thing the front office should want to do is give off some sort of "Baez is our savior" vibe. He's already going to be putting that sort of pressure on himself because of who he is. If anything they'll want to lower expectations for fans. Which is just another reason he may not come up until late next spring. But man if he comes up soon... So exciting!
